100% true, when you change an all male cast of an established franchise to an all female, it just won't work unless you have some seriously good performances and story. When the same movie doesn't work, they start playing the blame game, mentioning all the wrong reasons why the movie bombed. This, however, even though the story is a little similar but it's original and looks like a very interesting story, it looks very dark in tone as well, with an extremely good cast around it. The trailer alone sold it for me.
This actually looks good, its better to start off an independant property than piss off the fans by reinventing the series into something nobody likes.
@Steve A, In simple terms, you've summarized what i was trying to say. I guess the studios think, we have an already established series of movies, let's just change the cast. If it works good else, we'l just blame the fans for all the wrong reasons. In the end what the studios forget is if they had a good story and executed the movie well enough, it wouldn't piss off the fans. And for me it doesn't matter if the movie has all male or all female or male & female cast, what matters is a good story, executed well with good performances.

I rate Widows 7/10. It's simply a crime-drama film you have to pay attention to but great acting all around. It's a Steve McQueen film, so if you're expecting action, stop expecting it...now. Daniel Kaluuya and Elizabeth Debicki stole every scene they were in my personal opinion. Every...scene. My only criticism is the slow burn. There were parts that could have been left out...I mean for real but I enjoyed it overall
Really? The movie was dragging? I personnaly would've preffered an aditionnal 30 minutes because there are way too much plot that some events or characters do no have enough screentime. Like Lliam Neeson's character who makes decisions that doesn't make much sense psychologically speaking.
Or Viola Davis' son. He's got one scene and we never get to know him to truly care about his only scene. In that sense actually showing him in that scene totally useless. They could've just mention it in dialogues in one scene but that's it. OR give him more screentime and develop his relationship with his parents or friends.
@@philippebeauchamp2827 I think that was the problem a lot of viewers had with it being "too much plot" but that's probably why I felt it started a tad slow lol! But I'm like that with a lot of movies. In this one I wanted to see more of some of the characters. I plan on watching it again when I have time. The performances were great. Daniel Kaluuya's character made me nervous. I believed him
@@nicegyrl1 Yeah he was good, but I think it was the least interesting of all the characters. His presence was more to include "action"/tension to the story because overall the first hour is, in my opinion, poorly written in term of structure. It was just way too slow even if the movie starts with a montage of the initial robbery and the life of all the wives affected. Speaking of the wives, that one wife we get to see like 10 minutes in the movie really, here again, bugs me. Ultimately her role is bigger than what it seemed and not allowing this character in relation to another character to have more screentime to make their relationship clear between eachother is very a bummer. I really wish the movie had 30 more minutes to its two hours. But, overall, I honestly really liked the movie (considering I hated 12 years a slave because of how conventional it was compared to McQueen's two previous feature films) because at least it not only tells a story of revenge (in a way), but also tackles a lot of the political side of the context. And THAT is what truly ringed interesting to me. Because now it's not only about this big personal story, but it registers in a broader spectrum to capture something that is close to our reality and the reality of politics in general. In that sense, the confrontation between Robert Duvall and Colin Farrell is very good and cynical, but realistic vision of leading a city. Also, did you notice the paper on the door of the restaurant at the very end when Viola Davis' and Elizabeth Debicki's meet? I truly believe it was intentional by Steve McQueen. The sign reads "Cash Only". Obviously meaning that capitalism rules society in the context of the movie. Everything about this movie is about money. Even when Debicki's character tells the "sugar daddy" she won't let anyone how to live her life and how she can lead it her own way, he leaves the money on the table but she still picks it up even when it falls down on the floor? THAT is filmmacking. She needs money as much as anyone. She isn't as free and she think she is. But yeah now she probably has a million dollars in her bank account, but the statement is there. The robbery revenge story is purely fictionnal. But the universe of the movie rings very true compared to contemporary societies. At least, IMO.
ex-Pat Brit here. I remember the excellent original TV series. It was the first tv series written by Lynda La Plante, who went on to write other such greats as the stellar Prime Suspect series which ran for 15 years and starred Helen Mirren. When Widows hit the tv screens in Britain it was as innovative and as full of impact as Hill Street Blues was when it first aired. I hope the film keeps the spirit of the tv series. It has a lot to live up to.
great cast and storyline.. but it is very slow paced with some scenes that are not necessary at all. if you like fast action packed movie.. you will like the second hour of this
MOVIE REVIEW: This movie is purely and simply amazing, and I found my self crying through some of the parts which are rare considering movie quality is going down. I wouldn't want to sit here and write all the spoiling details on this film for others who have not seen it if you have not seen it yet, I RECOMMEND YOU GET IT AND WATCH IT. FINAL VERDICT: 9/10 one thing I must add to this is I am truly happy to see some real acting, cause man what has happened in 2018 was a wreck when it came to movies, in my opinion, Halloween was horrible and they pumped that real hard, but I love this film truly.
Great directing. The foreshadowing with little tidbits throughout keeps the story fascinating and the camera work is top notch. The ability to immerse the viewer in ALL of the scenes creates a top tier effect for engagement in the story.

Powerful combination... Viola+Liam💪
This is actually looking very thrilling! Im excited!
Uhhh Liam Neeson was nominated for an Academy Award for Schindler's List ....
ex-Pat Brit here.
Watched this movie today-Viola is AWESOME!! She is a fabulous actor and deserves an academy award for her performance
Top actresses good casting good story really enjoyed it ..actually it's good to see how the table have turned on Liam lol
great cast and storyline.. but it is very slow paced with some scenes that are not necessary at all. if you like fast action packed movie.. you will like the second hour of this
they threw in a little black lives matter and a little feminism but overall its just a good story
😂😂

I can't wait to watch this movie. Two of my favorites: Viola Davis and Michele Rodriguez.
Music by Hans zimmer noiceee..and what a cast...setitoff2018
This was so good. Not what I expected. Which made it better. But smart movie.
"Nobody thinks we got the balls to pull it off"....i wonder why
this one actually doesnt force the feminism down your throat like it seems. its actually a compelling story.
Extremely good movie. If you're looking at this trailer deciding if it's worth the watch, do it
This film should've been an Oscar contender.
Every time I see Michelle in a movie I get goose bumps
ikr?
I thought it was something about operating system windows
I just watched this movie. It is great. Acting and the way the sceens were shot are great. 👍🏽👍🏽
One of the BEST thriller's I've seen in a LONG TIME.
Great directing. The foreshadowing with little tidbits throughout keeps the story fascinating and the camera work is top notch. The ability to immerse the viewer in ALL of the scenes creates a top tier effect for engagement in the story.
This movie is what Oceans 8 wished it had the balls to be. Steve McQueen and my girl Cillian Flynn are killing it!
Great movie. Just watched it this evening.
hey dear, you mind if i Dm
They credit every awards nominee as "nominee" and "winner" EXCEPT Liam Neeson??!?!?!?!?
Just finished watching the movie. One of the best movies out there. Recommended!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I loved this movie. Normally I can figure out who the "bad guys" are, but you couldn't guess this. The only shock/ shy moment was at the beginnings. ☺
@phillydisco you're right, but you'll know that if you've watched the movie not at the beginning 🙂
