Thx for that OP strat
I knew this was gonna be a thing once Terastalization was revealed.
Well he isnt in SV so we are safe there now AG gen 9 isnt that safe
@@Nicole-wt3wr I think that was the true reason they didn't add it. I mean they could've done it like if it couldn't terastalize but like sure ok
WTF is terastalization
@@gabrifedri9984 changes your type and if you have your terastalization of the same type your pokemon has he gets x2 stab
@@gabrifedri9984 Gen 9 gimmick. Every Pokemon has a Tera Type- once per battle one of your Pokemon can change to that Tera Type, getting its defensive profile and STAB damage. It keeps STAB for its normal typings but loses their resistances, and if it's Tera Type is the same as its normal type it gets double STAB damage. IMO its a better gimmick than Z-Moves and Dyanamax, but as seen in this video you can do some pretty silly things with it in an unrestricted Dex.
Lesson learned: Mold Breaker will be essential this gen.

All of them
Funny enough, if you do manage to KO the Shedinja with something like hail, the person usually forfeits immediately.
either he forfeits himself cause of stealth rock or hazard
or you forfeit cause shedninja is untouchable unless you have moldbreaker
Wonderguard, tera electric, balloon... such a silly and creative strategy.
I appreciate all the plays that realized it was a hole in their capabilities and forfeit quickly
And this is why we need counter abilities and moves.
Oh wait. There's mold breaker, whirlwhind, shell trap, spike shield, weather conditions and virtually almost every sound based status move. (personal fave: perish song)
Also thank you comments for reminding me about infiltrator.
Honestly, the reason why Shedinja was banned from Natdex Ubers wasn't Tera Electric Air Balloon at all.
Instead, it was Heavy-Duty Boots, with a range of viable tera types including Ground, Steel, Water, Fairy, and potentially Electric, though being weak to Ground without a Sandstorm immunity wasn't the best.
The broken part about it was that apart from Dusk Mane Necrozma, they had no common counter, and Dusk Mane Necrozma was vulnerable to being worn down by the other five pokemon on Shedinja's team.
The players would avoid using their Tera and remove Shedinja's answers on the opposing team, which the opposing player never knew for certain were Shedinja's answers.
What would happen if you used tera blast stellar type?
I love Shedinja, but knew as soon as I learned about Terastalisation that it wouldn't be in Scarlet and Violet. This is why.

Chut. Up.
I think i found you online while you were doing this, I got so mad, then started using this and realised how you can counter it kinda easily, still one of my favourite strats
See when the invincible shed ni ja strat took multiple turns of setup no one was worried about it but now that it takes literally 2 turns its so busted I can't even lmao
I mean if there is an ability like cofagrigus's mummy in s/v then you can beat it, or trick to swap abilities. Sandstorm is also a good idea. The substitute play though makes it extremely difficult to beat it through. Well, there is always gravity and then using ground moves
Hate to break it to ya, but two is still multiple
Nowhere near busted tbh.
This Shedinja dies to: hail, sandstorm, stealth rock, whirlwind + hazards, infiltrator + toxic or will o wisp, that berry that does damage, aftermath, innards out, mold breaker, turboblaze, teravolt, thousand arrows, synchronize + toxic orb, trick + any self-damaging item and possibly spiky shield, rocky helmet and rough skin.
But it's a fun gimmick to use against unprepared teams.
@@slikman19 Besides sandstorm those are all very specific counters. And does hail still do damage Ik they changed it to snow but does it still do damage?
@@steel5315 don't know, I do t have the game so I dont know the new ice mechanic
As OP as it might seem, there are some counters to this strategy. For example, a pokemon with infiltrator and toxic or just plain old stealth rocks could destroy shedninja. It's hilarious here because all these guys only ever use offense with no damn thought behind it at all.
There is a lot of counters to this, but its kinda like batton pass chains imo, its only decent vs this matchup and kinda bad against the meta, and you can counter the counters.
i mean, one of them did try to use stealth rocks, just too late
You have to outspeed cyclizar turn 1 to set up the rocks to kill.
What viable mons in upper tier use Infiltator toxic? Chandelure? Crobat? Jokes?
The most reliable answer is actually stuff like mold breaker and sandstorm.
@@RoninofCrimsonMaple I'm just giving an example I didn't say those were the only ways to counter
just sand stream
Tinkaton is going to the meta by the single fact that it has mold breaker as an ability, and I am really happy for this
I think fairy steel only has one weakness which is ground because of steel and fairy resisting each other’s weaknesses with the exception of ground
It’s also weak to fire.
Update from the future: Tinkaton is not meta, even in AG where Shedinja resides. There's simply better Mold Breaker users
So do Veluza and Haxorus.
Stealth rock and whirlwind/roar with tera ghost to prevent a rapid spin can destroy that. I think Skarmory is the best candidate for being the most physically defensive one and good at other things too. Hippowdon/Tyranitar can also work for having sandstream making Shedinja waste of turn for using sunny day before you roar/whirlwind it.
Everyone saw this coming, right? I already knew that Gravity, Zygarde, and abilities like Mold Breaker will become required on every team. Or they'll just ban the ghost bug early.
Considering the Shedinja line is cut from the games entirely (Unless DLC changes that), I don't think there's anything to worry about outside of Showdown.

There's still a way for beating this shedinja strat, you just need something that bypasses abilities such as Kyurem/Zekrom/Reshiram abilities or Sunsteel Strike/Moongeist Beam. But ngl this makes a team unconditionably especific just to beat a single pokémon, which makes that strategy really good.

There are actually some more counters. You can use a Pokemon with mold breaker, you can use rocky helmet/rough skin/spiky shield/flame body or you can try to stall. Wonderguard is also bypassed by "typeless" moves like struggle and some others (see bulbapedia).
But yeah, the strat is way too safe for the reward you get. Even if your opponent runs a counter, you can just switch out and try again later

I got to thinking about this last night glad to see I wasn't wrong time to go stomp ladder
Lmao the speedup punch table meme
This is why you always have a Mold Breaker or equivalent ability on your team
Exactly. Pokemon IS strategy... not only UGA, UGA, THE MOST POWERFUL MOVEMENT.
And sadly... a lot of players in general have that Uga, Uga mentality... I think in Gen 9 that's going to be very noticeable.
Fire blast, Thunder and Blizzard FTW
The two reasons houndstond is on my team is he’s cute and temp6t showing off it’s power
to people saying its balanced because theres counter play, the majority of the counters are extremely specific like needing a pokemon with both infiltrator and status. Pokemon with sand stream are very scarce and running sand storm on pokemon who otherwise would use their move slot on something more useful just to counter 1 specific pokemon is unbalanced. A lot of people are saying to just use stealth rocks/spikes but this shedinja combo only requires 2 pokemon and you could just use another pokemon with taunt/magic bounce which isn't even counting the other 3 slots which could be used for even more adaptation.
If you see this and don't have mold breaker, any weather with chip or any rocky helmet / rough skin user, start with a mon that has a supereffective move against Shedinja, break the sub before it terastallizes and then status it
Possible *PRACTICAL* counter options, in case this becomes a regular occurrence.

Fortunately, Shedinja isn't in Gen 9, so you won't have to deal with Electric Shedinja (something I wasn't sure was possible until now) with an Air Balloon.
