@@steveyouraveragehamster9383 They do in the original Odyssey, at least. At the very end when Odysseus and his family are going to be murdered by the father and men of the slain suitors, Athena shows up with Big Papa Zeus and protects Odysseus and his family. ^^
The lyrics to this implies that Athena sees Odysseus as less of a 'student' and more as her own property. Like, seriously, just listen to the opening, "I see you changing from how I *designed* you." "Have you forgotten your *purpose,* let me remind you." And honestly, that's a little bit terrifying...
It's also completely fair, because Greek gods aren't simply people whom are immensely powerful, but the very forces of nature given personalities. what Athena says is, when one considers what she truly is, not at all derogatory. In fact, being "designed" by the goddess of wisdom, why who would see that as anything but something to be proud of?
It could also implie that Athena doesn’t open up well to people especially when you hear in the song Goodbye it hurt when Odysseus called her out on being alone. I get the impression this Athena is all about business and she probably wasn’t ready to bound with Odysseus like that especially if she is not sure if he would last seeing is how her teachings would be very strict and he expectations would be high. This was phenomenal. I like the scene with Odysseus looking at his reflection. He doesn't recognize himself. Yes! And this translates perfectly into My Goodbye when Odysseus says how she's alone. She loved Odysseus when he was younger like a friend and they looked very close but of course her being a god they're relationship is different, when Odysseus says she's alone later it hits so much harder because how they were here
What I adore about it is that you still see glimmers of that friendship when they're older in this animatic. Athena's expression at Odysseus when she talks about the magical boar "only the best could kill" feels very subtly like "I wonder who I could be referring to, eh Odysseus?" And his smile back at her feels like "Yeah, I was pretty good back then." The friendship is still there, it's mired under so much grief, anger, hopelessness and disappointment.

And Odysseus gives her a slight smile back, sort of like "Yeah, I was pretty good back then." It's wonderful because its a subtle moment of teasing between two old friends, Athena trying to help build Odysseus back up by reminding him of his old glory, and finally it cements the overall theme of this song, the wonder and hope of Odysseus' early life under Athena's mentorship that's absent now.

Athena never really abandons him. She is the reason he eventually makes it home. It is unwise for Athena to be openly by his side when Posidon is on the war path. But she bides her time and waits. After all she is a warrior of the mind.

This!! Esp with the mirrored poses both being claustrophobic in a different way. In this vid, it's due to the framing, with Athena's pose being juuuuust cropped out causing it to feel like she's whispering the command in his ear. The very epitome of "gentle reminder(threat). In "my goodbye", Athena's full body (upper torso, semantics) is hunching over Odysseus, a direct action to convey her condescension and disappointment towards his actions. I personally see the differences in each pose as being reflective of Odysseus' view of Athena. More specifically, where the first pose is cropped, he's still in his "Athena is a friend". My Goodbye's mirrored pose is when Odysseus is disillusioned to their relationship and is fully seeing that Athena, a God, will never show him the empathy a friend would give his grief (and subsequent rash behavior).
THE LEG!!!!! It's the first time I see someone draw this song and reference to the scar Odysseus has on his leg bc of the fight with the boar!! The fact you even extended that detail to his leg giving out on him while he was talking to Athena later!!! And the fact Athena has the story registered in tapestry!!! And also this depicts maybe my favorite dynamic between them, with Athena being just as cheeky as him!!! It's really cool to see the improvement since you started to animate to this musical, the angles and composition here are so neat
This might be my favorite depiction of Athena I’ve seen. The simpler and more cartoon like art style definitely helps, but her being extremely tall and slender, inhumanly so, shows she’s not a human but a god. Her face very clearly modeled off an Owl, and having an elegance to mirror not only her being a god but she’s the more formal and strategic side of war. Also, when she takes off her hood and her helmet is underneath, it wouldn’t work at all like that, but she’s a god, so it doesn’t matter. Looks sick.
My favorite things about this video: 1. The "Don't disappoint me" scene being a reflection of the one scene in My Goodbye video. 2. Odysseus's faces at 1:08 and 1:56. They make me laugh so much. 3. The water scene when Odysseus gets seemingly dragged in by his own reflection. 4. Young Odysseus. Look at him. He's a little baby man. I love it.
something i don't think i've seen others mention is that odysseus cleverly manages to divert attention from his own name to athena's, even though she never even said it he immediately latched onto a way to change the subject of the convo from him to athena (rising to her challenge by saying her name then talking about her rep), and i imagine the theatrics with his lil stick also helped to distract her, evident by the fact that she then changes the topic to mentoring him odysseus managed to trick the goddess of wisdom and tactics TWICE in one conversation, what a guy
Oh! Anyone else notice how the way Athena bends over to speak into Odysseus's ear from behind mirrors her movements in My Goodbye when she bends in and tells him what a waste of him he was?
I think one of the things I like the most about this animatic is the palpable **love** that Autolycus, Anticlea, and Laeretes display for Odysseus. The carrying, that hug during the coronation. Really displays that there were a lot more hands sculpting that boy than just Athena's.
Out of all the warrior of the mind animatics I've watched, this one has the most detailed uhm cinematography shall i call it; it's like watching a movie. From beginning to end I'm so captivated by the angles, the expressions and the way of storytelling. And omg is that Eumeaus? See, you really put your heart into those characters and I can't help but be exited by the little details like Athena without her helmet or the my goodbye reference pose. Thank you for this!!
I really like the fact that Athena can talk through Odysseus's reflection and can fly through window panes!! Also the glyphs just bring out a deeper(we see u did a lot of research!!) and impressive side of Greek mythology!! I love the fact that they're moving too, great job :D
THE HIEROGLYPHS SCENE??? The water/reflection transition??? I also noticed the “foreshadow”/parallel of Athena overlooking Odysseus’s shoulder at the end from your “My Goodbye” animatic. All in all, this entire animatic is so outstanding. I can so clearly see it being full blown animated. I’m losing my mind at how well the quality of your animatics are/are becoming. WELL DONE 👏👏👏
I love how the scene at 0:50 - 1:00 is in the artstyle of those vase drawing and it's so fluid!! Also I think it's funny that Athena is using a cloak as a disguise, as if she isn't like 7 ft tall (and the way she lifts him-)
The mentor line is great and all the little touches -- the throne being bigger than Od a task he could never truly live up, the use of the wall just awesome
I think that the reflection between “if you’re looking for a mentor […] best of friends” and in my goodbye the lines “you’re not looking for a mentor and I’m not looking for a friend” Is heartbreaking
Oh I LOVE 0:55 when Athena and Odysseus give a lil smile to each other 😭 Also the choosing mural as the carrier of expression was marvellous. Great job Wolfy!! The part 2:58 where Athena fly through the paintings and tapestries was such a talented idea😭😭 I'm crying for the last bit.
Absolutely incredible as always Wolfy. Odysseus meeting Athena for the first time seriously warmed my heart T-T You made it just as playful as I imagined. Also that self high five was hilarious
Amazing ❤ Using traditional Ancient Greek art was a super cool touch when Athena told the story of how she spotted Odyssesus' potential. And lol young Odyssesus high-fiving hinself was adorable 😂
I like how the narrative of this song takes place after he has killed the boar. Most animatics I have seen have killing the boar be the central focus of the scene.
Everything about this is so perfect 😭 Odysseus' reflection not quite being him as Athena says he's changing, the little smile they share when she says only the best could kill her boar 🥹, the fact that you included the scar story and that he stumbled afterwards, her amused face when he says he was bluffing, her refusal to high five him so he high fives himself askjslzl, the owl tapestry over his throne... This is so so good.
Baby Odysseus is so cute, he has not idea he will propose an oath that indirectly contribute to the Trojan war, have to fulfill his godsdamn oath that he couldn't get out of by pretending to go insane, spend like 10 years there, then another 10 years in a series of boats just to get back home
When Odysseus was young, he was bright and confident. But overtime as he became an adult and a king, he learnt responsibility which made him less confident and Athena is disappointed...
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I can't even begin to explain everything I loved about it. The parallels between Odysseus in all the different stages of his life are incredible, and I loved the scene at the end where Odysseus was looking at his relfection. Athena going "don't dissapoint me" was CHILLING. incredible job as always
I don't feel like I've seen it anywhere, but I LOVE Athena's "reveal" when young Odysseus figures her out. It's such a cool transition from hooded woman to badass helmeted goddess
Omg I love your Autolycus and Laertes designs! As well as the blood running down Ody’s leg from the gash he got from the boar! That’s going to leave a nasty scar, that totally won’t come back later in the plot haha!
I'm screaming over grandpa Autolycus taking care of Ody bxhdjdngnfj this is so sweet TT And then Anticlea and Laertes welcome them back 🥺 Laertes crowning Ody and then they huuuug 😭😭😭❤️ Also, I love the tapestry(?) of Athena's past (at least that's what I assume it's showing, that particular part being about Odysseus) Kid Ody with his cool new mentor 🥲 So young. So happy... That running animation at the beginning tho🤌 Another masterpiece from you, as always ❤
Wolfy, omg- this is amazing, the replica of the Ancient Greek art?! That was phenomenal, the scene of the reflection on the water, the entire mind scape?! The way little Odysseus was filled with hope? And how he is now tired?! Not recognising himself neither in the painting nor his reflection? ATHENA?! ATHENA WITH LITTLE ODYSSEUS?! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL-
okay okay okay but at 3:21 when she leans over his shoulder to say "Don't disappoint me" she later parallels that moment in "My Goodbye" when she says "I mistook you for a General, what a waste of effort spent", effectively calling him a disappointment okay I'm normal about this musical I prommy
I dont know if it was intentional but Odysseus "protecting" his name from the get go nicely parallels protecting his name against the cyclops and I love it nonetheless!
I love how you made Athena so much. She looks almost owl like and this animation just tells you so much about her personality. She can be friendly when she wants to but stern aswell. She also just seemed happier at the beginning
I like how your version of young Odysseus is more playfully and is full of that child like engery. It gives us a little glimpse of his childhood and he is like as a young boy. Instead of just him being a bit cocky that I usually see a lot. He even give himself a high five when Athena refuse to do so XD amazing work as ever!
I can't stop looking at 0:52. The way you so accurately depicted black figure pottery art (while still keeping it RUclips friendly lol) is beautiful. Love it!
Whats really awesome about your art here is how unhuman i feel Athena looks despite being human shaped. Her eyes being empty/full is a part of that but how you drew her and the movement make her seem so different. Your whole video great showcase of skill because i homestly feel like im watching a full 24/30 frame animation. The art is drawn in such a way that the movement are expressed and my imagination fill in whats left
I love how the frame at 3:22 works as a call back/pararell to your "My goodbye" animatic. Here, Athena says to Odysseus "Don't desapoint me". Meanwhile that same frame in "My goodbye" is when she got became dissapointed of him, "What a waste of effort spend" (1:54)
May have already commented and forgotten but holy crap this is amazing! You have their personalities down to the detail, between cocky teenage odysseus to nervous adult odysseus, all the way to threatening athena to amused athena. not to mention the way you animated the wall paintings is amazing
THE CONTRAST BETWEEN ALL THE ENERGY AND HOPE HE HAD AT THE BEGINNING WITH ATHENA WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER TO HOW BLEAK HE IS IN THE CURRENT TIME, I’M SO. AHHHHH- WONDERFUL WORK AS ALWAYS WOLFY?! :)
I love this!! Your animatics are so good!! I love the expressions you make!! Like right here! 2:02 She looks so proud and tickled!! And then she pulls off her cloak and its so smooth! 2:20 Plus both of them here is so cute! Best friends even if they don't know it! 3:39
Oh my gosh! BABY ODY!!! Autolycus being a proud granddad who then carries injured grandson home??? And the hug between Laertes and Ody!!! 😭And Athena using tapestries as she's the goddes of weaving!! I love it so much!! This is incredibel thank you!
Dear lord. this animatic is pure genius. So complex in its own simplicity, and the storytelling is flawless, just flawless. Hands down the best WotM out there, congratz! :D
The scenes with the murals and tapestries were super cool. I haven’t read the odyssey so it's cool seeing flashes of Odysseus growing up. All the characters are so expressive. Teen Odysseus is adorable.

Holy CRAP! I had to pause this and rewatch to catalog all of the things that are incredible! I don’t know how to articulate this, but I’ll try: your vision (or perspective? Style?) is incredible! I love the way you don’t just animate a scene that we’re looking at from a fixed distance. We are IN it! And flying and zooming around and then we’re in the painting and then the painting is on a wall and we’re in front of it and dear GOD the foreshortening (I think is the term?) on that wall when we’re right next to it is INCREDIBLE!! And the way we fell through the water at the beginning into another dimension and then the mural came to life as a memory! Just wow. Also HOW do you manage to make Athena’s face so expressive when she has no pupils and literally two lines for a mouth?!? I think your work is my favorite Epic animatic I’ve seen. Ever.
Looks sick.
My favorite things about this video:
I love it.
This has to genuinely be one of the best warrior of the mind animatics I've ever seen
something i don't think i've seen others mention is that odysseus cleverly manages to divert attention from his own name to athena's, even though she never even said it
he immediately latched onto a way to change the subject of the convo from him to athena (rising to her challenge by saying her name then talking about her rep), and i imagine the theatrics with his lil stick also helped to distract her, evident by the fact that she then changes the topic to mentoring him
odysseus managed to trick the goddess of wisdom and tactics TWICE in one conversation, what a guy
Oh! Anyone else notice how the way Athena bends over to speak into Odysseus's ear from behind mirrors her movements in My Goodbye when she bends in and tells him what a waste of him he was?
I love Odysseus’ expressions during the whole video. And that water transition was WILD. Very well done
Autolycus and Laertes!
@@WolfyTheWitchthis is the song in How I found Epic the musical
dude the way you had athena staring at a tapestry, seeing as she's also a weaver and appreciates the arts... ugh the detail, it's amazing
She’s the goddess, right? Correct me if I’m wrong, my mythology is a little rusty :)
I LOVE how, even in “Human”form, Athena’s face looks owl-like
I'm glad this video exists, there's just something about the new version of the song that just doesn't hit the same 🥲
I love how you included that Odysseus got injured on the leg on the hunt for the boar.
I really like the fact that Athena can talk through Odysseus's reflection and can fly through window panes!! Also the glyphs just bring out a deeper(we see u did a lot of research!!) and impressive side of Greek mythology!! I love the fact that they're moving too, great job :D
Every one gather round Wolfy has made another amazing work of art let’s give them and the video all our love ❤❤❤
I will never be able to get over how creative and amazing your animatic choices and designs are lol
They can appear so simple, yet be so effective ^ ^
THE HIEROGLYPHS SCENE??? The water/reflection transition??? I also noticed the “foreshadow”/parallel of Athena overlooking Odysseus’s shoulder at the end from your “My Goodbye” animatic. All in all, this entire animatic is so outstanding. I can so clearly see it being full blown animated. I’m losing my mind at how well the quality of your animatics are/are becoming. WELL DONE 👏👏👏
I agree. The art style of the hieroglyphs really reminds me of zero to hero from Hercules.
How is it that basically every song in this whole musical is a banger
I love how the scene at 0:50 - 1:00 is in the artstyle of those vase drawing and it's so fluid!!
Also I think it's funny that Athena is using a cloak as a disguise, as if she isn't like 7 ft tall (and the way she lifts him-)
The mentor line is great and all the little touches -- the throne being bigger than Od a task he could never truly live up, the use of the wall just awesome
Gods, young Odysseus is so precious
I love your design of Athena, the large eyes are reminiscent of her owl
I think that the reflection between “if you’re looking for a mentor […] best of friends” and in my goodbye the lines “you’re not looking for a mentor and I’m not looking for a friend” Is heartbreaking
Oh I LOVE 0:55 when Athena and Odysseus give a lil smile to each other 😭
Also the choosing mural as the carrier of expression was marvellous. Great job Wolfy!!
The part 2:58 where Athena fly through the paintings and tapestries was such a talented idea😭😭 I'm crying for the last bit.
The detail of Odysseus parenting carrying him was so cute
Not me tearing up after his father names him king, they embrace, and Athena blesses his reign. This is Prince of Egypt-level.
I never would have imagined that i would be hyped about an old myth. That's what good visuals and creative storytelling can do, huh
Absolutely incredible as always Wolfy. Odysseus meeting Athena for the first time seriously warmed my heart T-T You made it just as playful as I imagined. Also that self high five was hilarious
Love how you designed Athena’s look after an owl!
Omg the young Odysseus is so cute. I laughed at him multiple times. Especially him giving himself a little high five. So adorable❤❤❤
1:07 Yo, is that goddamn Autolycus? Because if he is I love the research that went into this, including the leg wound on Odysseus.
Baby Odysseus is so cute, he has not idea he will propose an oath that indirectly contribute to the Trojan war, have to fulfill his godsdamn oath that he couldn't get out of by pretending to go insane, spend like 10 years there, then another 10 years in a series of boats just to get back home
The detail of his father having prominent teeth is a neat detail ,
Odysseus grandfather name was HeWolf (literary what werewolf means)
Wasn’t his grandfather’s name Autolycus, who was a master thief?
@@MildlyPerturbed Yep .
When Odysseus was young, he was bright and confident. But overtime as he became an adult and a king, he learnt responsibility which made him less confident and Athena is disappointed...
That was awesome. Major prince of egypt vibes from the use of the ancient greek fresco at 0:30 !
I've never imagined the visuals for this song this way, but this is too cute, young Odysseus is bringing the smile to my face 🥹
I'm screaming over grandpa Autolycus taking care of Ody bxhdjdngnfj this is so sweet TT
And then Anticlea and Laertes welcome them back 🥺
Laertes crowning Ody and then they huuuug
😭😭😭❤️
Also, I love the tapestry(?) of Athena's past (at least that's what I assume it's showing, that particular part being about Odysseus)
Kid Ody with his cool new mentor 🥲 So young. So happy...
That running animation at the beginning tho🤌
Another masterpiece from you, as always ❤
It's such a small scene but when Athena takes off her hood and her helmet forms?? Obsessed ❤❤
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL-
I love how Laertes looks like an older, broader Odysseus, and in later animatics Telemachus looks like a leaner Odysseus.
okay okay okay but at 3:21 when she leans over his shoulder to say "Don't disappoint me" she later parallels that moment in "My Goodbye" when she says "I mistook you for a General, what a waste of effort spent", effectively calling him a disappointment okay I'm normal about this musical I prommy
There’s something endearing about Autolycus forgetting to hold back his demigod strength as he pats his grandson on the back.
I dont know if it was intentional but Odysseus "protecting" his name from the get go nicely parallels protecting his name against the cyclops and I love it nonetheless!
this animatic is so freaking good and him as a boy meeting athena is the cutest thing
THIS SONG IS STILL SO FIREEE OMGGG
I love how you made Athena so much. She looks almost owl like and this animation just tells you so much about her personality. She can be friendly when she wants to but stern aswell. She also just seemed happier at the beginning
“Have you forgotten to turn off your heart?” Big feels…
I like how your version of young Odysseus is more playfully and is full of that child like engery. It gives us a little glimpse of his childhood and he is like as a young boy. Instead of just him being a bit cocky that I usually see a lot. He even give himself a high five when Athena refuse to do so XD amazing work as ever!
This is so cool, I love your animatics and storytelling!
I can't stop looking at 0:52. The way you so accurately depicted black figure pottery art (while still keeping it RUclips friendly lol) is beautiful. Love it!
I was too busy grooving to remember the start and then the end I was like “oh yeah he is having a identity crisis or sum”
Love the fact you went to the art style on early pottery to show the flashback before jumping inside of the memory. So creative!
And that owl through the tapestries to the back of the throne tho?? TASTY
Okay, I love the Greek art scene(0:50).
May have already commented and forgotten but holy crap this is amazing! You have their personalities down to the detail, between cocky teenage odysseus to nervous adult odysseus, all the way to threatening athena to amused athena. not to mention the way you animated the wall paintings is amazing
Athena leaning over Odyssius's shoulder to remind him, reflecting that sceje in My Goodbye....chef's KISS
THE CONTRAST BETWEEN ALL THE ENERGY AND HOPE HE HAD AT THE BEGINNING WITH ATHENA WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER TO HOW BLEAK HE IS IN THE CURRENT TIME, I’M SO. AHHHHH- WONDERFUL WORK AS ALWAYS WOLFY?! :)
there was a lot of frames in this. I guess you could say its an "Epic" animation cuz dang its good
I love this!! Your animatics are so good!! I love the expressions you make!! Like right here! 2:02 She looks so proud and tickled!!
And then she pulls off her cloak and its so smooth! 2:20
Plus both of them here is so cute!
Athena and Odysseus's friendship evolution hits harder after wisdom saga TwT
We've waited for so long..now it's finaply here! Another great animatic, Wolfy!!
Dear lord. this animatic is pure genius. So complex in its own simplicity, and the storytelling is flawless, just flawless. Hands down the best WotM out there, congratz! :D
I love how story-rich and nuanced your interpretations of scenes are. They make so much sense and hit right in the heart.
Not apart of this fandom but I adore your art and the song :)
The scenes with the murals and tapestries were super cool. I haven’t read the odyssey so it's cool seeing flashes of Odysseus growing up. All the characters are so expressive. Teen Odysseus is adorable.
Odysseus just looks dead inside at the end. Whatever friendship he used to share with Athena isnt the same anymore.
I find it amazing how you make these amazing epic musical animatics now, and i can go on your page and watch them, and then i can scroll down and watch dsmp animatics as well. You are truly one of my favorite beings of all time
1:47 is my everything
This is incredible ❤ you always bring so much life to Epics songs! I really hope you get the chance to work on a full movie someday
Ever. Like if Epic becomes a movie, I HOPE they contact you and build the sequence for this song around what you’ve designed. It’s THAT good. WELL DONE!!!!
This is amazing! I love how much of a sassy little bastard you made young Odysseus.
