  • In this video you will learn everything about Azur Lane's new montly boss batle, Extreme Challenge for May, named the Incarnation of Taurus. Here you will find the answer on how to beat this Extreme Challenge and learn every little detail that a player should know to successfully defeat the boss: the most crucial mechanics of this gamemode, the type of armour that the boss has and its main weaknesses and strong sides, the most preferable choice of equipment, the tactics that you should utilize and much more! After watching the video, you will easily beat this boss in a few tries!
Now, as was promised in the video, I will thoroughly go through my fleet composition and the possible substitutions for each of the ships. First of all, I did not use battleships and don't recommend you to do so either, due to the fact that their damage towards Takao is also reduced by 90%: the game says that only the cannon damage (which most of the times stands for the frontline ships) and not the salvo damage (which stands for the battleships) reduced, but it fact, both sources of damage suffer the 90% decrease penalty. Thus, BBs are not more effective than the aircraft carriers and there is no point in using them, if you're more comfortalbe with CVs and CVLs.
Now for the team itself. Hakuryuu and Shinano were used solely because of their immense damage output against every type of armour, including the medium one, and there's no direct substitution for either of them. You can go for any other ship that is designated for dealing with medium type of armour: August von Parseval, Yorktown II, Indomitable - but the damage of theirs will be a bit lower. Any other strong aircraft carrier, such as Ark Royal, Enterprise or Chkalov, is also a nice option. As for Implacable, her role is to slow Takao down and ensure that other carriers' planes hit the target perfectly, but she's also able to deal a lot of damage on her own. So, if you do not have her, any other ship with slowing capabilities should work fine, though a bit worse: Ark Royal, August von Parseval, Formidable and so on.
As for the frontline, its only purpose is to both stay afloat long enough for the backline to finish the fight and be able to break or at least weaken Takao's barrier before the airstrikes are released. Plymouth has no battleship to buff with her skill, so there she was used just as a main tank with a bit of damage output on her own. Laffey II should probably be better due to her damage being higher, but I was too lazy to equip the neccessary items on her. If you want just a tank, without any damage output as a cherry on top, Anchorage, Azuma, Brest, Kronshtadt, Guam and so on are your choice.
Kazagumo was used both as an additional source of torpedo damage and as a way of buffing the carriers' damage output by 15%. If you do not have her, it's better to stick to the destroyers with an Air Raid Assistance skill, such as Yuugure, Ariake, Ardent, Stephen Potter and so on. You can also use Sirius, thought her performance will probably be a bit worse. Any other buffers, like Helena or Bristol, rely too much on timings, so you'll hardly find a way to use them here.
As for Shimakaze, she obviously has one job: to deal damage with her torpedoes, which she does perfectly. Ayanami, Unzen and Yuudachi can try to compete with her, but she will still remain on top. Nothing else to say here.
