You can do shaped recipes with just a hopper input sending items to the next open slot in the crafting table. Ilmango has videos showing it with carpetmod and the auto-crafting extension (same thing Mumbo used). It takes a lot of redstone to make it work (and contraptions are specific-use items), but in my survival world, I needed 27 shulkers of anvils, so I added the mod and built an anvil autocrafter that takes the output of an iron farm and turns it into shulkers full of anvils (it took FOREVER). The carpet mod implementation is the way it should be implemented. It would be sad if it was limited to a small subset of recipes.

The Redstone line into the crafting table could be used for shaped crafting recipes, every pulse put into the table by the Redstone line could switch to the next slot meaning that if you timed the pulses and materials that you put in / didn't put in you could make a shaped crafting recipe. For example a diamond sword could be made by pulsing the Redstone twice to get to the second slot aka the top middle a diamond can be inserted then the Redstone pulse three times to get to the middle slot, where another Diamond can be inserted, the Redstone would be once again pulsed 3 times, and a stick would be inserted. Another way the slots in the crafting table could be selected is by the signal strength of the Redstone going in where as one through nine is used for the slots instead of the one through 15 power level. The signal strengths of 10 through 14 would do nothing and when a signal strength of 15 is applied to the table the item would be crafted. Just an idea. That would also allow for more than one item to be crafted at a time by inserting multiple of the same item before switching slots.

@@SemiHypercube he probably just guessed because everything else he said didn’t happen. you cant just predict so many things and have 1 of them come true and be considered reliable.
I feel like the autocrafting feature could work for any item if the crafting table saves the item that was crafted last, like if I craft an arrow, the autocrafting of that specific crafting table will only craft arrows when it's given the materials
If auto crafting exists - ever, i feel like they would probably have like a button to select what crafting recipes it could make. Like a diamond shovel and a TNT block, so if you feed it sticks, diamonds, sand, and gunpowder it would craft them seperately
The auto crafting system chould work like : a press tu crafting cursor move one slot of the crafting table, when you pass an item in the crafting table, it goes where the cursor is. If you are at the 9th position and you pass a redstone signal, it craft the item and return to the first position
So there is a music box song now and autocrafters are a thing but that hole still stumps me and there’s vaults which could be the chest thing who knows 🤷♂️
i had an idea for shaped crafting: everything is inserted from a hopper into a crafting table from top left slot to bottom right slot (left to right across top row, then left to right across middle row, etc.), and a new item, let's just call it the "blocker" for now, is introduced which can be placed in any slot but is ignored by the crafting table (a "blocker" is placed by hand, and doesn't pop out when the craft is done, so to craft a diamond pickaxe, you would put a "blocker" in the mid left, bottom left, and mid right slots (and bottom right if you want but not needed), then those slots are "blocked off" aka the hopper cant put stuff there, so then you would just put in 3 diamonds and 2 sticks in that order and it would work) maybe this would just be ignored for all interactive blocks or maybe it would just block stuff (so it would prevent a hopper from working since it's in the first slot and won't leave) idk
I feel like you could easily give the auto crafting tables a menu with all the recipes you know, and you would select one out of those for it to craft. This would allow any item to be crafted, but limit it to one recipe per table.
The leak clearly shows crafting tables will emit a redstone pulse after being used. The auto crafting idea is stupid and a complete lapse in judgement. PheonixSC must have huffed too many warden farts.
I'd love auto crafting. I think having a custom crafting table that is really expensive to make, maybe with like a diamond block or something, and you can put in certain recipes, like fireworks, stone bricks, or fences, and when items are put in a hopper above it, they will automatically craft and be dropped on the floor, or put in another adjacent hopper. It'd be very powerful, but would make farms even more interesting.
I think a good solution would be to have the auto table craft the last thing you manually crafted on it. So it remembers the item and crafts it just like you have shown. On the other hand you could also have the other materials not needed in the recipe continue down a hopper line to another table. That way you could have the iron farm convert them into iron blocks for compact storage and the roses get filtered out just passively, making sorting ALOT more compact too. Though, that only works if the crafting grit works like a container and takes the item out of the hopper immediatly.
I think they will make a crafting hopper which will have a 3x3 crafting slots like the crafting table, then you put the items in the right order and each item thats dropped on the hopper will transfer to the crafting table in the exact slot of the hopper
For shaped crafting, they might turn the crafting table into a TC crafting statin where you can place the ingredients in and they’ll stay. Then you put items through the hopper and it stacks with the items in the chest to craft.
It doesn’t have to be exclusively shapeless crafting. I mentioned in your stream it could be a new crafting table that allows you to preset a recipe so when you feed it the required items it crafts them
3:34 this is a leak for the Crafter a auto crafting crafting table. Just put any crafting in any item in the item formation to crafted, and you can activate it with a lever or button.
The way shaped autocrafting could work would be either an item that acts as a null item that doesn't effect crafting recipes, or a way to disable slots. Then you just need to fill it in left to right, top to bottom. So if you want to make an axe with the first one it'd be diamond, diamond, null, diamond, stick, null, null, stick, null, or you just disable the entire right side and the bottom left corner and put in 3 diamonds and 2 sticks in that order.
Some mods exist (not public as far as I'm aware) that use those designs for the stone chests, as well as a lot of the other deep dark content shown in those preview spoiler art, so in my mind they act as a cool proof of concept almost, of what could be. I highly doubt Mojang will go down the path those modders did, and I expect we'll be getting something very different if anything at all, but it's still cool to think about.
Illmango did a good draft of auto crafting a while back where you hoppered in items and they went in the crafting table the same order as they would go into a dispenser, so there was no problem if you made something like a block of iron, or the shapeless recipes, but if you wanted to make a pickaxe, you had to pump in filler items to then take back out before you could craft. Might be overly complex, but it fits with minecrafts straight forward design principle.
i think that if they did this (which im not even sure is a good idea) it would be possible to autocraft shaped recipes. items go in order from top left in reading style. for empty slots, you would input an item that would be pulled out later, say dirt. a locked hopper is below the crafting table to pull the dirt out when unpowered. when all items are in the crafting table, the dirt is pulled out of it. after the dirt is gone, the crafting table receives a redstone pulse to craft the now-valid recipe, and the output is removed from it.
Theoretically you could do shapes using hoppers in craftingtable either by using three hoppers - one for one row and then selecting a coloumn using a redstone signal (strenght of the signal) or just use one hopper and select it with a redstone strength. 0 means do not put it in the crafting table and 15 means craft it while the values inbetween change the place of the item.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. How I’ve been imagining it is that they could a a calibrated crafting table, where, similar to how the calibrated skulk sensor only detects certain sounds, this would only craft certain items. Maybe you could have a comparator facing into it from a chest with the craftable item in it? Or maybe an item frame-like slot on the side (or maybe more likely the top) where you can put the item. It would store any items required to craft this item in it until it has all the necessary items, and ideally any items which are unnecessary will be filtered through.
Shaped crafting could be done by entering the required resources in the hopper, then [with a redstone activated crafting table] placing in the recipe and then confirming the recipe (by clicking the item it creates), which it then will begin making the item repeatedly and feeding it into the hopper/chest next to it.
I think the auto crafting with shaped recipes could be done super simply in 2 ways-- 1, the signal strength into the table indicates the selected slot, or 2, every time power is cycled it switches slots. The selected slot would be what the hopper feeds into, without overflowing into other slots.
The shaped crafting recipe could work. There's a really cool video that Ilmango did with it, but the gyst is this: You use filler items to fill up the empty slots, and then have a hopper pull only those out, and then you craft. Of course, the input hopper will need to input the items in a very specific pattern so that the right shape is made in the end.
Could do something like the workbench type things in a few mods which are crafting tables with some storage as well. Then it would be useful both as an upgraded crafting table, and as a redstone component. Or the crafting table now stores the items, accepting inputs of whatever is in it, and autocrafting doesn't use the last one of something. Could also allow the crafting table to be used as an item filter in this method too.
My best idea to "balance" this would be to make a "Template" that consists of the Items of the Crafting Recipe, which are then spent/ lost, so that there's an actual cost to the Auto-crafting machine. It would need to have that template input-ed and would then craft and output that Item everytime all the Items needed went through it.
i think the auto crafting would work in a way where you select the crafting recipe before it can auto craft and then the auto crafting table will only craft after receiving all the necessary resources
3:59 there is already a mod which allows this, and if it works like it does in the mod, then shape recipes are possible. In one of ilmango's videos he designed/showcases something like that for all redstone components (auto repeater crafter, comparator crafter, etc)
For automated crafting the only way i see is by first crafting it yourself and not taking the item out, so the crafting table is a container for itand thus it keeps on adding to existing items. So i'd put a recipe for a diamond sword and just exit the crafting table and then the crafting table would take diamonds and sticks from hoppers connected to it and put them in a pre-exsisting shape that's inside it
I was pretty skeptical of these leaks but thought I would mention. Shaped auto crafting with a system similar to the one in this video could be done by filling empty slots with some unique place holder items. You could then use one of those multi item sorters to extract only the place holder items. Pretty sure I originally saw something similar on illmangos channel and well it's not small but it's certainly possible.

Crafting book finally gets a use and let’s you select what it should be crafting you you can do shaped receptors.

I feel like the autocrafting feature could work for any item if the crafting table saves the item that was crafted last, like if I craft an arrow, the autocrafting of that specific crafting table will only craft arrows when it's given the materials
I would say powering the table should make the crafting table keep the items in the grid and automatically try to craft the given grid
Too bad its fake
Surprisingly, this is the closest guess to what happened in the end I've found.

coming back to this after minecraft live. Yea he was sort of right. Using the hopper on a crafting table as a hint was pretty genius
If crafting tables have auto crafting, they would now have storage…
Making them….

5:00 i guess there could be a way to like put the item you want to make into it so it knows what to do
Maybe a selection menu for the crafting table

Oh shit, the redstone crafting one was real lmao.
So there is a music box song now and autocrafters are a thing but that hole still stumps me and there’s vaults which could be the chest thing who knows 🤷♂️
vaults might be the hole
i had an idea for shaped crafting: everything is inserted from a hopper into a crafting table from top left slot to bottom right slot (left to right across top row, then left to right across middle row, etc.), and a new item, let's just call it the "blocker" for now, is introduced which can be placed in any slot but is ignored by the crafting table
(a "blocker" is placed by hand, and doesn't pop out when the craft is done, so to craft a diamond pickaxe, you would put a "blocker" in the mid left, bottom left, and mid right slots (and bottom right if you want but not needed), then those slots are "blocked off" aka the hopper cant put stuff there, so then you would just put in 3 diamonds and 2 sticks in that order and it would work)
maybe this would just be ignored for all interactive blocks or maybe it would just block stuff (so it would prevent a hopper from working since it's in the first slot and won't leave) idk
1:40 was kinda curious how many takes did you accidentally go through the nether portal while trying to break it for that bit?
Imagine stone chests is how we bring pairity with pistonable chests
I feel like you could easily give the auto crafting tables a menu with all the recipes you know, and you would select one out of those for it to craft. This would allow any item to be crafted, but limit it to one recipe per table.
The leak clearly shows crafting tables will emit a redstone pulse after being used. The auto crafting idea is stupid and a complete lapse in judgement. PheonixSC must have huffed too many warden farts.
The automatic crafting may be how strong the signal strength, determines which slot, but either way, can’t wait for 1.21!
The revelation that phoenix was being tracked by the Minecraft secret police was both hilarious and terrifying

Omggg I love Noah!
I’ve been watching him for some time now! I didn’t know you appeared on one of his game shows
I think a good solution would be to have the auto table craft the last thing you manually crafted on it.
2:15 doesnt everyone just love mojang :D

Minecraft would become factorio/satisfactory if autocrafting gets added
Good to see that Phoenix is doing good after losing all his hp and dying in game and in real life, as well as taking all that emotional damage
I mentioned in your stream it could be a new crafting table that allows you to preset a recipe so when you feed it the required items it crafts them
Or maybe it could use templates, like the Crafty Crate in Botania mod?

Hello Phoenix , Luv ur vids thanks for entertaining me when I need motivation to do my HW.
1:12 💀💀🙏🙏
wow the auto crafter was correct
The leaker was right
Some mods exist (not public as far as I'm aware) that use those designs for the stone chests, as well as a lot of the other deep dark content shown in those preview spoiler art, so in my mind they act as a cool proof of concept almost, of what could be. I highly doubt Mojang will go down the path those modders did, and I expect we'll be getting something very different if anything at all, but it's still cool to think about.
It could just mean that a redstone signal can travel though a crafting table
0:25 Yea I saw it. U lost lol
Might be overly complex, but it fits with minecrafts straight forward design principle.
i think that if they did this (which im not even sure is a good idea) it would be possible to autocraft shaped recipes.
items go in order from top left in reading style. for empty slots, you would input an item that would be pulled out later, say dirt. a locked hopper is below the crafting table to pull the dirt out when unpowered. when all items are in the crafting table, the dirt is pulled out of it. after the dirt is gone, the crafting table receives a redstone pulse to craft the now-valid recipe, and the output is removed from it.
i bet the stone chest will be used in dungeons and such, along with maybe a dungeon cave update thing?

Best Magic the Noah video up to date
There's a really cool video that Ilmango did with it, but the gyst is this:
You use filler items to fill up the empty slots, and then have a hopper pull only those out, and then you craft. Of course, the input hopper will need to input the items in a very specific pattern so that the right shape is made in the end.
the 1st leak was maybe the trial chambers? not sure what it is.
2nd leak might have been the vaults
and the 3rd leak is obviously the crafter
Could do something like the workbench type things in a few mods which are crafting tables with some storage as well. Then it would be useful both as an upgraded crafting table, and as a redstone component.
Or the crafting table now stores the items, accepting inputs of whatever is in it, and autocrafting doesn't use the last one of something. Could also allow the crafting table to be used as an item filter in this method too.
My best idea to "balance" this would be to make a "Template" that consists of the Items of the Crafting Recipe, which are then spent/ lost, so that there's an actual cost to the Auto-crafting machine. It would need to have that template input-ed and would then craft and output that Item everytime all the Items needed went through it.
i love how you beat up circle in the video (I love magic the noah because i used to play mtg but now he does funny game shows)
i think the auto crafting would work in a way where you select the crafting recipe before it can auto craft and then the auto crafting table will only craft after receiving all the necessary resources
5:04
brother what in the diamond sickle is that
I think what is going to happen with the “hoppertable” combo is you put materials to craft something, it could be an autocrafter, something we needed.
phoenix - mumbo jumbos video goes over shaped crafting, its really complex so for most people its not gonna be easy to do if it does exist
