i saw them play this in 2002 in atlanta, GA. best concert of my life and it was during this song that i had the dark equivalent of a religious experience ( eyes rolling back in head, feeling of floating above the body, streams of tears from eyes down my face as the collective energy of the entire crowd chanting "HAIL! HAIL! HAIL!" there was a complete loss of ego. every time i watch this video i feel almost the same way as when i was there for real in 2002. i cant even speak for a almost a half-min after watching this... ... i wish i had words... i wish i had words...
I have a question for which i expect personal opinions... There is a friend I have and who is claiming that this kind of metal is depressive and stressful... and that there is no point of listening to this when you're under influence of depression, 'cause you can't relieve depression with depressive stuff (he says) which in this case is black metal... oh and he's not one of those ignorant people, so his opinion probably contains some logic... what do you guys think ?
+TheMassata I had an ex girlfriend that was in a depression and really liked black metal and stuff like that (Black Metal, some Doom bands, some Death metal, etc), and her therapist adviced her to stop listening to black metal and ''negative music'' (She is ok right now, still a bitch btw). I don't really think ''traditional'' black metal is depressive, musically they use minor scales with diminished chord arranges, that makes them sound ''evil'' and ''saturated'' (eg. Marduk, Dark Funeral, Nargaroth uses this a lot). But I think DSBM, Funeral Doom and that music actually makes you feel more depressed (When I'm sad I listen a lot of Shining, and I can feel the stress disappear for a moment, funny thing). That is my humble opinion, and sorry for be 10 months late.
LordPyotr No problem m8, I felt a massive depression, before I got into death metal, I even remember the date (11th june 2014), really love that it happend, 'cause that day, i was introduced into metal, and it actually 100% wiped out the depression that day, and I was renewed...
Man its all about perspective and how the music hits you. If you get depressive then dont listen to it i dont know... for me when i listen to this i feel pure power and i fucking love it. This music gives superpowers to me, i feel like a fucking demon god when i listen to this. Hail Dark Funeral!
I’m late to the party, but fuck it, here’s my 2 cents. Your friend should learn to differentiate between reality and art. This is creative satanism, and nothing more. Fantastic energy, great imagery, and lets be honest here; this stuff is aimed at the actual alternative. Chances are most who enjoy this are the depressive type, imagine this being promoted to default folk in the mainstream? If you take issue with this type of art, it’s clearly not aimed at you so move on.
Caligula was the best!
