    It's cool because the hot glue looks like when you weld two pieces of metal together. very clever chris, very clever!

    Wow good solution using the metallic tape!! Having a "why didn't I think of that" moment

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, I think I will do some more experimenting with the aluminum tape, as there are no paints that do a great job of replicating an actual nice clean shiny metal look.

      I used aluminium tape for a Bucky arm cosplay last year, and was really happy with the results. I wrap it over 3D printed designs too when a realistic metal finish is required. Some of the Aluminium sealing tapes are thicker and able to be pressed into detailed surfaces for a really nice effect.

      I know, right? The part where he showed the paint just scraping off gave me flashbacks to carrying a silver sharpie around a convention and frantically trying to touch up my prop

    Very cool. I recently completed a hyper prism made from bronze pipe for a staff. I wasn't having any luck with soldering the pieces together, so after assembling them with beading wire/string, I used hot glue on the joints.
    Your tip to paint the hot glue reminded me of what I did to camouflage the spot that were hot glued on my piece. I used bright silver Rub and Buff to make the areas of glue look metallic like solder. :)

    In order to bond the two plastic pieces together, sand the surfaces. This will create more surface area and allow the glue to bond.

    Instead of hot glue, why not plastic cement?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  7 лет назад +1

      You could try it, but there are not many glues that work on HDPE. Typically it is joined by plastic welding it together. However if you found tubes of a different material that fit together well, you could use other glues.

    I would like to see if plumber's glue(s) would work better... And/or the ways you could fabricate something using plumber's brass shark-bite fittings with the pvc. *Just a thought*

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  7 лет назад

      Yeah, I never tried glue meant for pvc, but from everything I read online, it doesn't work. I did find one specialized HDPE glue online, but I figured it would be out of the price range and accessibility for the average crafter. I'd love to hear if anyone has success stories with HDPE and any other glue?

    • @chunkeeone8408
      @chunkeeone8408 7 лет назад

      It can be tricky stuff, for sure. You have to use it with the prep solution to and it works as more of a fusion process really, with pvc on pvc (if I am remembering correctly) I believe it is very unforgiving however. There are a lot of plumbing supplies that could double as crafts supplies, in my opinion... But then again, I am sure you have noticed already with your creative mind.
      You know another thing that comes to mind, that might work in your projects, is that flat wire. We used it to run some speaker wire to a home theatre system where we couldn't fish it behind the wall. It's wire contained in a type of tape, so you can tape it on something flexible and very thin in a way where nobody can see it or they don't know that they can see it. But then again, it probably isn't that cheap/laymen customer friendly.
      Anyways, keep up the good work man... I look forward to all your clever little inventions and such!
