Thanks so much . I try to look up songwriters and the age of songs. My grandfather and his children sang many of the old songs here. You saved me hours of work!
This girl stole my heart the first time I heard her. Now I can't stand to listen to anything else, and I used to be into hard rock? Now I'm learning a completely new style ( for me)of music. I perform a lot of her songs in public and everyone loves it! ❤
Same here. Hard Rock etc can't listen to anything since I heard her. I'm 63 and given it all up for the mandolin and am learning 'I could drive you crazy' a good song for crumbly drummers and wild children alike! 😂❤
Yeah, yes, when I dial past a hard rock station now I feel sorry for them - like - they miss the whole entire point of music. I'm looking at you, The Eagle, maybe 95.1 FM in Dallas.
Honestly can't thank you enough for this recording. Probably like many others, I 'discovered' Sierra through RUclips's algorithms and her transfixing performance of Rosemary on Gems. Since then, Sierra's star has risen and she's near her second produced and polished record release, which is absolutely wonderful! However, there will always be a home for her stripped down performances of earlier years. For you to share this with the world so out of nowhere... its just wonderful. An unexpected gem. Thank you!
Almost hard to believe but I’ve been LOVING SIERRA FERRELL for ten years!! That’s crazy but she used to sing with 600 Pounds of Sin and somehow I think she thought of that name. Her tiny self with two big guys. Lol The Empty Glass and Third Eye Cabaret Social Club Thursday night listening room. Oh sweet sweet and beautiful so beautiful
Outstanding set! The Billie Holiday of bluegrass/folk/Americana. It's like I've stepped back into the 1930's and 40's listening to the radio and it's an easy Sunday afternoon in the sun.
This is fabulous. Thank you for recording it all those years ago and then sharing it with us online. Sierra's sound was already fully formed, though she's polished it in the interim. Truly one of the definitive entertainers of our time.
Just discovered this wonderful talent two days ago, thanks to RUclips. What a delight! The breadth, the range! Going to one of her shows soon. Great to hear some of her early work. Thanks, Austin, for posting this.
Started following her in 2018 when I first encountered her “Rosemary” video on Gems on VHS. Been kind of obsessed since then. Seeking out and saving every RUclips video of hers. This is a gem. Thank you for sharing.
Great to listen to a whole show rather than just the busking videos which I first started watching a few years ago, then she got the Rounders record deal and the album and was then lucky enough to catch her in the UK at her London gig, awesome night. Just hoping she comes back to the UK soon. Thank you.
Thanks for recording, preserving, and sharing, this awesome bit of audio history. I've been loving Sierra's music for a few years now; nothing else quite like her...
It sounds like the fiddler on her Bandcamp releases which were my first love, yeah who is that guy? This is a time capsule. I'm smote yet again. The purest form of Sierra, playing for a handful of people clapping politely and not a clue what sort of history they are witnessing.
Dude, this is unbelievable! Thank you so much for this. I'm flying 6hrs away to go see her play. And will see here again in the summer. What a great recording. damn thanks for sharing
Cold Rain and Snow. This sound takes me back to Burkville, AL, Lowndes County, 1960s, as a kid sitting on the porch of Portis’s Store across from the old community center (now the training center for the chemical plant). Just sweetness.
I could listen to her sweet guitar strumming ( not given enough credit) all day ! As soulful as her vocal phrasing’s - 76 yr old music ear verification. !
Austin, what a jewel! Many props for hearing her on the street and asking her to perform...AND getting a lovely recording of it. It really displays her depth of Anerican music and her catalog of covers. Who is the gentleman playing with her? I feel I've stumbled on something really special here. Thanks for sharing. This fountain will give endlessly.
Less polished than recently this recording shows her as a diamond in the rough. Already a vocal genius 8 years ago. It's great to have this to follow her evolution.
Who is the guy she's performing with? Anyway, it's fascinating to get this clear picture of the kind of performer Sierra was then and how she has become. She was already great, but her music has gotten deeper, emotionally, and more complex, musically. The last performance on this recording-"Goodnight Irene"-is most prophetic of where heart art is now. In the last couple of years, she has felt freer to let her voice be as beautiful as she can make it (which is about as beautiful as a human voice can get). This version of the Leadbelly song couldn't be more beautiful. And I have a feeling that performing this song for this recording may have been an important experience for her, one that helped her to grow as a musician and as a person.
"Sierra Ferrell performing Live at the Discovery Bay Detour in Port Townsend, WA in the summer of 2016. After seeing Sierra performing on the street, I asked her to perform that weekend. I recorded the show and stuck it on a hard drive and there it sat for years. A few years went by and I began seeing Sierra gaining notoriety for her amazing voice and talent as a performer. This is for any fan of Sierra that is interested in hearing a live recording of an amazingly talented performer when they were completely unknown, selling cd's wrapped in paper bags and busking on the street for tourists. In This recording Sierra sings originals and plenty of county classics. Enjoy, Austin Davis" @@elmikol2443
@@guzzimike1100 your question fascinates me - and even: how many different songs has she played over the years ?- OR EVEN sang along with, to the jukebox when she was 10 and her mom showed her off to the barflies at the bar. Many songs.
I'm over 70 - yeah, maybe MAYBE equaled - definitely NOT surpassed. As far as moving me. Looking at you, J.S. Bach, trying to elbow your way into the 1st rank there, behave now.
And as long as I'm ranting while no one listens: hear her Bandcamp stuff and you'll know she makes Bog Dylan's singing and songwriting sound like an old dried up dog turd.
Whats funny...i can only imagine, probably a lot of pressure on you. SF.... im just glad you are sharing the music. Still not a fan of the nose piercing....
Oh my goodness, thank you, Austin!! Finding this has totally made my weekend! I’ve been listening on repeat! In my opinion, the BEST of Sierra 💫
