  • Her voice is killer, and her band is nuts. Saw her live, she opened for Shakey in LA during his tour this September, and was excited to see more of her music this festival.

      Sierra is a pro. Natural gifted singing and talented playing but she's worked at this a lot through many years and though Rounder has embellished her offerings, there are solid arrangements and top shelf talent around her bringing her into a new league..., so that's worth supporting.... but live is where the excitement is I think.

    • @Zorro325
      @Zorro325 2 года назад +4

    Y'all certainly can't judge a book by its cover, that being said, Sierras voice is a mixture of the Great country, blues, jazz and any other genre of women of yesteryear all wrapped up in her voice. Her rebel with a cause stance and blazin her own trail might be unconventional an unconforming, but folks will think they've gone back in time to the good old days after hearin a voice that reminds them of another time. 🌅

      I agree with Patsy Cline, but I think her chops are better than Linda R. and I have been her fan for years. Sierra is herself but she seems to channel other singers. Sometimes I hear Patti Page and other times I hear Bonnie Raitt. Her vocal prowess is all over the map!

      All the praise for Sierra Ferrell - I second that emotion. When the song calls for it, Sierra Ferrell can be sublime, I'd say, in the ballpark with Patsy Cline. I'd like to hear Sierra Ferrell cover "Sweet Dreams Of You" (at the appropriate occasion) or Tish Hinojosa's "Closer Still" wow, that melody reaches a high note over a tense chord, Lord help me.

    This is the 2nd video of Sierra Ferrell's I ever saw, the 1st was Western AF "Bells of Every Chapel" towards the end of 2021 iirc. This Hardly Strictly gig seems like an uphill climb for a performer - 1st band of the day - the introducing person couldn't have spoken more boringly, the crowd seems to be physically distant, and the damn sun is sobering. BUT SIERRA FERRELL TRANSCENDED IT ALL - she is a real trooper! Saw her live, just Friday now, August 23, 2024, in Dallas :-) !!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 In the INTROVERTED CROWD-SURFER category (Culture Club, Ft. Lauderdale, FL) Sierra Ferrell is the reigning unlimited-division world champeen!

    This was spectacular, and many thanks for posting this brilliance. I have to wonder about the crowd that saw this live. Were they on life support? A hospital for the hearing impaired? I mean, their reactions suggest to me that they have all of the soul of a bowl of croutons.

      I've noticed people who attend music shows in the past 10 years are now completely selfish, rude and unconnected to the performers as if it was some cheap hologram and they'd rather talk loudly about their shoe size instead of being respectful and considerate of others. It's really weird and disgusting.

      @@namcat53 I agree. Maybe a function of the "screen-i-fication" of everything. We're moving from the physical world toward the virtual, and it's doing us no favours. I'm glad that I can still enjoy this brilliance. Greetings from Toronto and take care.

      @@patrickdoyle2510 We attend a few small, intimate music shows with great musicians and considerate, polite fans like ourselves. No crouton bowls in the joint. Too many crouton bowls and it's impossible to avoid them. It would be like cleaning the streets of New York City of all the garbage as you walk through. I imagine saying "Please be quiet" would be ignored at this show. We stopped seeing The Grateful Dead in the 1980's because of the arrival of too many crouton bowls. Sad but true.

    What we're introduced to is always the favorite way to hear a song, or so it seems. The allegro of Why'd Ya Do it, just doesn't promote the beauty of this song. In general, slow it down! Sierra's voice needs the room to expand on the notes, plus the mandolin also sounds better when married to a slower tempo of Sierra's songs!
