I used to be a gymnast and studied ballet as well. And guess what... I did the same exercises in a very different way in my ballet classes and during gymnastic training. One time as a dancer, the other as a gymnast. It's a real big difference in how it is asked to be done!
i really love seeing Kanaeva laughing when she is stretching...make me smile when i see her enjoying training and improving, and it shows me that she enjoys gym so much and she really does love the sport :)
You girls are really amazing and extreemly flexible and just love you!!! I love the fact that you go throu that pain every day but in my opinion everybody likes watching you gyusxxxxx!!!! :)
It's obvious that you've never done rhythmic gymnastics. There are reasons why we dress in black. It makes you look thinner and your coaches can see your body better as you move. Other colors destruct them
well, that's not true... they are training from so young age, that in their bone developement have proceeded irreversible changes (for example they have deformities in femurs etc.) Also every healthy body is able to perform front slip with sufficient training, but for middle split, it's not true. The percentage of people who are able to do perfect middle split is very thin. Also many of rhythmic gymnasts are hyperflexible - you can see hyperflexible knees, hyperflexible shoulders etc. That should not be enforced in people who have normal and HEALTHY basic flexibility. (with this looseness of limbs there is a cost - they need so much more muscles to hold the joints. But when you look at female rhythmic gymnasts, they don't have much muscles to begin with. That's why they have so much problems with their joints).
Omd, everytime I watch these warm up vids of the champs and ballet is shown\included, there's always a ballet dancer that has to criticise, erm hello, can you not see that rg is a sport? Does it look like they are entering competitions to win 1st place in ballet?NO Yes ballet is necessary but it has been made to adopt to the needs of the sport so shut your mouth and stop complaining they are not ballet dancers they are gymnasts!!!!!!!!!!!
They always say you're not supposed to bounce when you stretch, but whenever I see a video of a dancer or athlete, they're always bouncing when they stretch, so that makes me think maybe it's not so bad or is it that it's more injurious if you're less flexible?
I think the bounce is bad when you're trying to improve flexibility. Like going from a split to oversplit, it could be dangerous if you force it. These gymnasts aren't trying to improve their flexibility, they're just warming up and more of a muscle memory trigger. They aren't trying to go past their limits especially during a competition warm up.
their not "adapting" Classical ballet. their modifying the exercises used in ballet to meet the needs of the athletes. so no it's not classical ballet, but the base of the ballet exercises may have originated from classical. no one is confusing the modified with the original classical form.
Why can't you just get over that they're gymnasts, not ballet dancers? Obviously they're learning it right if they're at Grand Prix, and some will possibly go to the Olympics. Quit being a dance snob!

I love seeing behind the scenes. I'd rather watch this than their actual performance. Seeing how the hard goes into it. Thanks for uploading ^^
I'm a dancer but I love watching Rhythmic Gymnasts train and perform; they're so flexible! :)

It's obvious that you've never done rhythmic gymnastics.

you can't "hope" you gotta WORK and if you work you will become this flexible one day!
