A great point he made “THE MUSIC IS GARBAGE “ people are tired of hearing about violence, drugs, k!lling and s3x….people are desiring music that feeds the soul….
Right just overall negativity and negativity sells. If you're a positive rapper, and have the dopest bars and your Music's uplifting the industry won't hear it
And to add to that.......people don't want to give the industry credit, because all the artists want to believe the labels just STOLE from them, BUT there was something known as artist development. Somebody would sign and it would be two years until they dropped an album and that in between time was building the artists up. Seems like now, artists are signed and put out as they are. No development.
But are they willing to pay for it? Streams aren't making us money. We need to move away from that and back to paying for an album release online or physically. At least those thousand streams can turn into 1000 people paying 10$. Vs 1000 streams making less than a penny each. Cost way more to make am album

That and most ""artists"" either rap, play guitar, or ""make beats"" aka produce. Or they're really talentless and try to DJ. Rapping doesn't take that much talent and skill - compared to playing an instrument - rock 'n' roll was ruined by boomers, and the world of music production/mixing/mastering is a lot more than just dragging and dropping a generic four-on the-floor sample pack drum loop. Especially if you want to work with synths. You almost need a physics degree to truly understand what you're doing and why. On top of that, you need to know a decent amount about computers, and the equipment/tools you need and how you're going to use them. And - if you're like me and want to write songs unique to you/as original as possible - you have to know what been done before and build upon that. Usually by learning music theory. Classical, jazz (hard-bop, bebop, modal, free etc, etc.), folk, funk, New Jack Swing, Nashville country of the 50's, outlaw country of the 70's, 90's trailer trash country, blues, prog rock, psychedelic rock, glam rock - the list of styles, genres and subgenres is endless. People who try to get famous as a musical artist - especially rappers - have no idea how to develop a sustainable career. They rehash and recycle the same influences and ideas. That's why artists on Spotify get less than a penny for every play. They treat it like non-music people who tell aspiring musicians that music is not a profession, but a hobby. Most pros recognize music for what it is: the most important and true artform ever developed. It's a religion and it's an obsession. And every culture, near, far, before Christ, after Christ - has relied on music in one form or another. Without music life would be a mistake.
Agreed also the ones that haven’t been wise and invested in other projects or deals done modelling acting started a shoe deal the ones that think they’re the best and don’t need to try are very silly.

Prince predicted this over 20 years ago. Even Michael Jackson spoke about this in the late 90s about going independent and not sign your life away to the majors.
James Brown and Ray Charles did it decades before them. They were the first to go independent and have their own companies. James Brown owned radio stations too.
The music industry is in a decline because the singers can’t sing and the rappers can’t rap …notice how 90s R&B is still thriving despite being over 20 years old
no. Its because of streaming and the internet. People who can sing can just upload a video on youtube and boom, the song is distributed where as back before streaming in order for a song to be heard by millions it had to be backed by major label. Music was more gatekept and only a few acts were ALLOWED in. Now the artist can build their audience withOUT the major labels and that hurts the major labels. There are many great singers whom are independent and do not get commercials or super bowl ads because they are not signed to Atlantic records or Interscope ect.
Seeing celebrities go broke is a bittersweet surprise in life. I worked as a photographer/videographer and i was shocked when certain artists couldn't even afford to pay their videographer. I quit because there were too many broke rappers 😂 but what shocked me most was female models showed dignity and actually wanted to pay for my time. Majority of rappers are renting cars for shoots. It's all fake. Nobody has money so never feel bad about yourself
This artist years ago that was out back in the days… I mentioned his music on a page and people bought his music,… he became obsessed with me… thought I was gonna make him a millionaire. He never sent me a check. He wanted me to mention his music every day so he could pay off his house or bills. He didn’t even promote his own music. He thought he had free PR… I just said one line and he acted like I did a whole campaign. I did neither. This other singer in another state, commanded I send his music to a gospel artist. These middle age men trying to be an R&B singer. At my expense. I can’t like nothing or support the arts without these men catching feelings. I blocked all of them.

Andre 3 stacks said this 28 years ago. "I live by the beat, like you live check to check, if you don't move your feet, then I don't eat, so we like neck to neck"
These labels would use YOUR credit score to take out $100K loan on your behalf. They take $80K to make you a $5K album using their people and their studio. The left over $20K is "your sign in bonus" which artists spend on a chain or downpayment on a car. Once the album is done, YOU must promote the album to pay back the $100K loan THEN you make 10% of sales and tickets. If you don't pay the loan back, its on YOUR credit record. This is the same as college loans, but at least you end up with a diploma with a college loan.
Signing to a label is a waste of time. They are useless. They are obsolete. Social media has made them that way. You can buy all the stuff they give you for 5k or way less. You can buy a beat machine for a 1000, audio interface, mic and Mac with recording software on it for less than a 1000. Yes, it's pricey initially but it's yours after you buy it and you can keep using it. All you have to do is get it mastered. There are many companies online that do it for you if you pay them. And they are well priced. If you want the music printed on vinyl and CDS, you can go that route but most of the time, it's not needed because most people are going to buy it digitally anyway
@@TheDumontShow noone buys music. Selling music is a dead industry, gone the way of the ringtone market. It's intentional once the media companies went into streaming and are hiding how much they make of each spin, claiming it's too hard to calculate, yet years ago they could track and charge you per text and per talk minute, remember? You hear the same 40 songs on the radio because labels bought those slots years in advance. Same with chart positions. Ever wonder how a song could debut number 1 on the billboard chart's; when noone ever heard it or it's not even on sale yet? Where is this music poll they want us to believe exists that everyone fills out weekly? The number one spot on MTV TRL was $30,000. Now labels pay Spotify to pump numbers. So if the listener isn't paying, the label is spending money, where is the money coming from? The artist. When they get a court settlement, or money from the military, Ludacris got money from living in a place that needed to be torn down for an extension to the ATL airport. Labels rather prey on people getting these large checks than sell $10 CDs. This is why people think artists sacrifice a family member, because major pushes coincide with receiving inheritance. You can make your music, but independent means you have to find completely independent avenues to profit from your work.
@@coolnoah2744The truth is alot of times the labels don't care about making money from you if they can't. They only use that point to control you so you behave. They usually use the artist to smuggle things in and out of the state or country. Because of their star power no one searches them. They're also used for money laundering, because again due to their star power no one doubts how much money they have. It's all about the optics to the label. As long as the optics are right, best believe they know how to make money outta you. You get your fame that you always dreamed of and they get their money, giving you peanuts.

high achievers are typically very intelligent, especially when they know how to pick the right people and how to present themselves. this is very serious work, and most artists have to have some sort of understanding of music business, or they won’t live comfortably after retiring, let alone have a good career. it just means they know what they are doing, and have the foresight to say “i need to make this decision on xyz.” years before they start making music professionally. most people start working on their skills before they even graduate high school.

Not that I don't think all artists should be paid fairly for their work… But wouldn't it be nice if the people that became musicians did it because they actually loved music so much and felt they truly had a gift to share with the world… Rather than trying to think of how they can get rich and famous, regardless of talent or skill?
The fact that Diddy just offered to put up his houses worth 50 million says alot. He doesn't have that kind of "cash" or money in his bank account. Its smoking mirrors.

The facades are dropping and I’m glad to see it crumble. It’s about damn time.
I could remember 1994 when everything tanked. Yeah! 1994. That's when radio stations had to become creative. Just do your history. We got Classic Soul, Hip Hop and Alternate, because the talent was just not there. So they had to pump up Beyonce and Usher. The Internet really didn't have nothing to do with this. At least in the beginning. The music industry has been hanging on ever since. Instead of 30 amazing singers in the 1980s, in the 90s we got maybe 3. Madonna wouldn't have survived in the 1970s. As well as New Edition and New Kids On the Block. But when you lower the standards in the 1980s, you get the 1990s and beyond. I can go on and on.
@@Alan_GA I'm a musician and I was in my late teens and early twenties in the eighties and I just hated some of the music of that decade. Trite and silly pop songs with cloudy sonic characteristics and excessive amounts of reverb defined the decade. I precipitated the eventuality of where the music scene would be today back in the 80's.
@@kennyblackbird5674 The creative side was definitely the technology of that period. Technology had advanced quite a bit in the 1980s. That's definitely allow not so great artists shine in the lame light with more talent. And because of these technologies we got genres that would never have been possible before this time. You can enhance voices and make them sound better with a push of the button. Now we got auto tunes that resemble that era. But it is doesn't replace real talent. The people who can actually sing, play instruments and move the crowd. However, sound really is the larger share of why people by songs. If the sound production is stellar, the artist doesn't have to be overwhelming good.
I think and believe that the reason Madonna became so successful is because not only did advanced technology afforded it to be possible, considering she's admitted that she can't sing but can market herself, which is sex, she was indeed well marketed and had a powerful management. The Jackson 5 in the 70's did that Bubble gum pop music and it worked for them. I hear that similar sound in New Edition, when they came out in the 80's. Considering they would have had big competition in the 70's, I could see how it would have been hard for them to survive.

The music industry is a bunch of movies, the only movies where the lead roles (artists) sign into debt vs profit. You're given a script/themes, an image, and are responsible for a lot of executives money, you're just an actor. Only difference is actors actually make at least a BIT more real money.
It takes so many hands to make shit possible that’s why. After shit get buss down between 1000 hands how much profit is really left for the artists. Even the movies gotta buss down 100s of millions between 1000s of people and businesses.
@@ToniTruthArt I agree, that's my point. However imagine. . .. a Brad Pitt being signed to 3 movies, and having to recoupe 5-6x and never be able to get out of it or work on other movies. It's still really backwards.
I think this speaks to a general trend across the board, tbh. I like the part where you mentioned how labels aren't doing artist development anymore. You can see the same thing in other sectors. I mean, look at Boeing, for example. Their name was synonymous with reliability and they had standards. They dreamt of things and they invested in research and their top engineers. I don't think I have to mention their reputation now. I don't know anyone who wants to get on a Boeing plane, lol. I think we're getting to a point where (or maybe we've already gotten there) where the people in charge of organizations are just too cynical to dream anymore. They wanna maximize their own wealth first and then worry about whether they're going to have some legacy that will revolutionize things that people will care about second. That attitude trickles down and I think that's why things just feel so stagnant for people right now (not just musically, but everywhere)
I actually think rappers going into other avenues of business (products, restaurants, content creation, etc.) is a VERY wise decision! The artists are simply diversifying their ways of building wealth, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that. But why didn't you talk about your music towards the end of the video like you mentioned you would? Since you discussed the other musicians, I would have liked to hear about how your music is going for you? And what kind of money you've made from it? That would've been helpful to hear :)
I don't see it as a bad thing either, i'm all about diversification and having multiple streams of income. They can use their influence and personal brand to bring in revenue from multiple different business endeavors as long as they're business minded or have a great team involved.
The black music industry went bust in the 80s. From there, is when the decline occured. It wasn't just rap, it included R&B. How the hell does Usher and Drake ever become so famous? I know more about Usher than Drake, I don't follow rap. Usher made it as an "actor" and dancer which was used as leverage for his music career. When Tupac and Biggie was out, we got Jarule and Jennifer Lopez. Even white acts aren't as talented as they use to be. Particularly Rock n Roll. Top 40 is dead with the 80s. That's why they're pushing country as a comeback genre, because they simply ran out of talent in the RNR genre. It isn't just the music, it is producers and directors of TV shows. The talent isn't there. The money to produce this talent is spent on wars and population control. All matters of a declining society.
Beth Hart, Starcrawler, The Warning, ZZ Ward, Samantha Fish, Eric Gales, Joe Bonamassa, Southern Avenue and Angelina Jordan are current talent. people just have to stumble on the acts because there is no MTV to spoon feed them music.
celebs are just bad with money. why you gotta have 3 homes and take care of your whole family? not to mention they sign the worst deals. theres money in music you have to do it yourself though

Well, I also have developed a solid forex trading career which is going to support me when I retire, sometime soon, and my integrity is still intact. I’m good.
Y'all the real ones because most people who made it don't really like music, they did it for the lifestyle. If anyone comes out with music now, it has to be something good because there's no money to be made. It's a lot of pressure to mold your creativity based on what others like. Like me, I love giving massages.. but I don't wanna give 9 massages within 8 hour period. Ain't gonna do nothing but tire and burn me out. God gave us talents to share with the world freely to inspire and spread love. The love of money has really fucked up the talent industry and all the things that make us happy. Even now with doctors/ lawyers.. I feel a big portion of those who chase after that do it for the money and don't care about helping this system bring justice or help save lives.
I felt this was the case... I look at some of those old legends, -like Diana Ross, Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight, Smoky Robinson to name a few. Those old folks are still "touring" and out on the road. Sure, they like the attention but when you are in your 80s and as long as they have been performing 50 to 60 years. You aren't out there for that reason but for only one - MONEY! They have to work to live!

Simple
The problem is everyone is trying to be famous everything is being overly saturated.

And it’s always stole money from the artists. Hell Elvis Presley was BROKE when he died. His ex wife created Grace land to get him out to debt. And when the artist finally get their masters they end up dead 😵
they're so broke they can't afford batteries for their smoke detectors!
But in a hurry to cam up and babble tho😮
This. The crap is embarrassing
That be black ppl thang

What's so embarrassing about it lol@@wheelofcheese100
Celebrities will cease to exist, finally!
people who are celebrated have existed since civilization was created
Celebrities will exist, but not as household names. They may have 10 million followers on RUclips or Twitch and that's what a modern celebrity will look like.
Imagine selling your soul and the music still flops
Music industry is oversaturated like anything else
Japan still sells cd's and vinyl's. Here in Europe the sell of vinyl is getting popularity.
Word
Cassettes as well. Griselda Records made me aware of that.
Yeah, there’s a whole world outside of the U.S. there’s a lot of money in other countries. There’s no celebrity worship in a lot of these places, they just want to hear good music.
That’s broke people music!🎶 💯🎯
So Lil Dicky was trying to warn them all with $ave Dat Money, huh?
😂😂I still love that song. He wasn’t lying about the facade of the music videos.
Time is running out. There's no time to develop artists because Satan needs to fill his quota of souls
dayum
He's beyond his quota. Most people in the world will end up in hell. The world needs to end soon
The only people I dont see complaining about streaming is the independent artists. 🤷🏿
Exactly
Because they don't want to go get the real money. Sitting in the bedroom pumping money on RUclips isn't going to make them money.
They stopped focusing on pure talent
And started going after "a look"
Now they all sound the same
And look the same
Not that I don't think all artists should be paid fairly for their work… But wouldn't it be nice if the people that became musicians did it because they actually loved music so much and felt they truly had a gift to share with the world… Rather than trying to think of how they can get rich and famous, regardless of talent or skill?
The fact that Diddy just offered to put up his houses worth 50 million says alot. He doesn't have that kind of "cash" or money in his bank account. Its smoking mirrors.
Smoke and mirrors 🤦🏿
Exactly!
Tupac never had a bank account.
Money was just giving to him.
Too easy to pay an accountant to manage their money.
Financial literacy!!!
You need collateral for the amount of money it would have cost for him to get out. They don't take large sums of cash. They need assets. Doesn't mean he's not broke, but it was basically mandatory for him to be released if it were to be granted.
Yea because it made no sense to me for him to be willing to pit up the cash house rich and cash poor
Cash poor period
Celebrities have spending problems with drug addiction and fake lifestyle. The record deal is debt and Americans love debt then complain about bills and being broke.
Poor people getting instant money has rarely turned out well.
There was an MTV special years ago and it talking about rappers breaking down the math of how they get paid. They all said you're broke unless you're touring.
Celebrities are there for the beneift of who? Not the fans, not the artist, then who? Think about it. Its an agenda.
The artists getting laid off from the labels are actually being blessed because 9 times out of 10 they were in some fckd up contract
Well music industry kinda started falling out due to the mass amount of people making “Tiktok/Reels” music (this is a new category of music aka “quick popularity trend music” and 2nd many big artist are just getting jailed or being put in court. Plus w the markets going on…it’s pretty hard to invest in music actually. Also it does not help most music is only available through streaming. I remember the days when you had to pass out CDs, mixtapes and shit. Now you just need social media or algo to do its part
A lot don't own their music.
@@PoorMansAlmanacNews that’s what you think! SIGNING LABELS technically doesn’t make you own it unless yoi have the masters or mainly the produce exec (you do the reduction for music basically) Big example is the Taylor Swift getting all her masters to release her own rendition or Frank Ocean vs Apple Music? (the biggest case in music) as someone that actually did study music arts, you’d be surprised how much people can do better independently than sign a labeland in the black community especially, niqqas are NOT READING the fine print. They kinda deserve it tho ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@PoorMansAlmanacNews a lot don’t own, and they’re owned by a label. And what’s worse is that so much money is in the air bc of unclaimed royalties and licensing fees
@@trxxblx-wxs-hxrx True. When there's that much going on it's not because people didn't want to claim money though; the industry was doing underhanded sh*t linked to other crimes and it's catching up to people.
There is no creativity. That's the problem.
Bingo
Correct
Either you got creativity or the money it’s very hard to have both. So in reality most times there where always be someone with the capital to take most of the profits of your creativity. But those who have the capital take all the risks if you go bust. So is it really wrong for a capitalist to try to protect their investments as much as possible?
But even when they had talented singers they robbed them. It's said Sam Cooke's business manager set him up, his family has all of Sam's royalties, Jackie Wilson was beaten up by mafia as he paid them for protection etc. They died broke, even elvis barely had no money. Maybe that's why there aren't talented artists in the mainstream now, behind the scenes but they're making money in different ways. No one cares about talent
Not true.
They just don’t put out any good music, it sucks snd they sign bad deals.
Good music comes out, most people just dont support it or know it exists and only listen to the big name clowns.
Maybe sign artist that are not just rap or hip hop, there used to be a lot of variety now all the new artists have the same sound, every song is the same, just loud noise.
The problem is that all the real American musicians have been killed off.
Just like Tiny Tim.
Sports is next to fall. America as a whole is done. Time of the gentile is complete. Over. Judgement is here
I have been saying the same thing.
Amen.. it's about time..
@JesusLovesEVERYTHING why do u want things to fail ? Because u didn't go for ur dreams? Yall mad 😂😂
@@Unknownhere12678NBA audience has cut in half in the last 7 years. ESPN,fs1 too
@@Unknownhere12678 Nobody should ever laugh at somebody's downfall. 😅
Good. Let them go broke.
These artist live off of loans, debt, and borrowed money. If the very top artist end up broke that lets you know what the smaller artist are truly earning! Ppl better create a business, gain a skillset, or develop a talent otherwise you will be broke like everyone else!
I love writing and recording and I’m really good at it but I haven’t wanted to be a performing artist in years and years. I’m heading towards sync licensing because it kills two birds with one stone. My desire to be famous as a young kid came from being insecure with myself and once I got older and got rooted in my own authenticity I was able to see how it wasn’t what I really wanted. Then I got privy to some experiences that scared me or opened my eyes to how I was being protected by being rejected - in spaces with some individuals who are currently in the news for weird shit rn lol - but I think this is all just making space for some new and authentic music and artists.
You got a point. Quality wise decade on decade for mainstream music ( across all genres ) has experienced an obvious decline
Well it’s obvious when now Diddy is being finished.
Exactly
I feel like it’s a domino effect
Now that I think about it, where’s the money he has gonna go?🤔 maybe that’s the real reason he’s getting booked now and not when these “rumors” started.
"Broke people music," Preach, young brother
Signing with these labels is you giving them permission to sacrifice you when needed
The Drake Kendrick future beef was a huge indicator. They whole industry got off they ass to pay them bills.
I’m canceling all my subscription. Been collecting cds for a while now
Spotify AIN'T paying no one but Spotify! If most bands, singers and rappers took their music off it, it would be done. You're paying for convenience.
U kno who not laying off engineering, electricians, HVAC,biologist, scientist especially if ur an American
Does this indicate a return exodus back to the college campus?! I've been contemplating this. I'm mature aged.
@@CreativeLion2314 Do it.
Nurses too. That’s why I’m a nurse
Just another scam
Well spoken
A Lot of This is Due to the Economy! Ppl Are Losing Their Jobs, Living in Their Cars, Can’t Afford Groceries. This is Not Surprising
All of the so called "artists & creatives" can slide off the 🌎. Not adding value & won't be missed 🎉
"All matters of a declining society ".... exactly. That's the bigger picture.
Right like one house is enough and the material things they spend money on dumb stuff to impress people
People nowadays don't have discretionary income to spend on shitty music.
Well when your money goes to fake jewelry, fast cars and only "renting" big houses, with no financial investments, might be a big big problem.
People have to realize it's never personal with Business it's always Business with Business
I LOVE that ppl are actually waking up ⏰
So glad I never succeeded as a recording/performing artist, songwriter. All I have for my efforts of the last 40 years is a storage unit full of guitars, keyboards, drum sets, p.a. equipment, about 300+ songs on my computer that I wrote, recorded and produced, and a job with my name on my shirt. Well, I also have developed a solid forex trading career which is going to support me when I retire, sometime soon, and my integrity is still intact. I’m good.
Same here. No regrets. I loved it and still love making music
Great job!!
An artist with a label is a pro . An artist with the A, B, C and D plans is the genius of his city lol.
celebrity broke is not average person broke people 😂
I felt this was the case...
Been saying this for years. Dude's correct.
These artists supposed to be making the money back off of album sells, concerts and advertisements. But these days those bags are extremely hard to get! Artists in the game today will not benefit from owning their masters. These artist do not make enough to benefit from their masters at all. If you not MIchael Jackson or Prince you do not get benefits in the music industry. These artist are not even as talented as artists from 10-20 years ago.
Even established rock and pop singers are selling half or whole catalogues to Hipgnosis and other licensing companies. They are ca$hing out!! They'd rather have $50 to 200 million cash upfront from selling their whole catalogue...
There is plenty artist as talented as 10-20 ago, they just get 10-20x less exposure than these artist back then. Like there's no reason to why Anderson. Paak, Lucky Daye, Steve Lacy, Kaytranada, JID or Denzel Curry are not a superstar
My niece is an artist and was signed to a major label. She managed to get promotional work with a few companies advertising their products but the label was taking a big cut from the money she earned. She ended her contract with them when she could.
Prince was the trailblazer trying to stop his record label. I think he managed in the end.
And now, he pretends that he is Prince's heretofore sister, Tamika.
Knock it off, Prince.
Why are all the good musicians whacko?
It shows no one is understanding the music industry, there is a massive amount of information of how bad the music industry is. Why don't black people learn!
