I have a dog with really super thick fur and I got a electric shear 320 Watt. If I touch this thing to her skin is it going to cut her or is it just going to cut the hair I'm scared I'm going to hurt her but I've got to get this hair off and regular trimmers I go through four of them just to get her done.

If you set the comb further up, will it effect how it cuts the wool?

yes correct if you have less lead between tip of cutter and bottom of bevel on comb u gain better entry and will cut a lot easier how ever this takes a lot of practice to shear the animal with out creating small cuts on sheep (depending on wool lenth).so short wool u will be ok ...long wool u want to avoid this setting..
likewise if u have more (lead) aka the distance from tip of cutter to bottom of bevel at tip of comb (say 10mm) u will not pick up any skin however may have to push a bit harder...hope that helps
