I learned the hard way how to do this process effectively, so why not show you guys how to do it too. It's still a pain in the butt to install sometimes, but it's a little easier this way.

Thanks for taking the time to help out others upgrading our rigs. It's called poor boy fishing ingenuity. Thanks again for sharing. Good job.

You had some good info for sizing and a couple other things. However, you don’t have to pry the spring piece when putting on the new ones…they automatically open over the ball when you push them on.

Thanks for the video tip. I installed 2 springs in under 5 min thanks to your instructions. Per your name, thanks for your service. HOOAH! from Army COL(R)

Gas springs from STABILUS INOX, usually sold by Attwood, have retainer clips in the heads that can come out and get lost. Stabilus does not supply replacements! These are the clips that you must compress using needle-nose plyers in order to remove the spring from the nub. Very irritating when you've lost the darn clip!

How do I know what length to get if I'm adding them to a hatch that does not already have struts? Thank you.

Might actually use this guide haha, my car's trunk struts are pretty weak now

They do get weak over time. I replaced them on my Dad's boat last year. Thankfully they aren't too expensive

8 months later and I finally replaced them using this video lol
I actually didn't need to loosen the clips on the new ones though, they just went in.

Good video... thanks for making it. And for the love of Jesus stop repeating, “pain in the butt.” :-)
