The smile on your face at the end of the restoration made my day, boss. So glad she's in your collection.
Watching your restoration, I was reminded just how persnickety those landing gear were, when I restored mine. It took 3 tries for me but, once it's properly keyed, it works perfectly.
Loved the editing and camera angle changes you did on this one, too.
To anyone considering this ship, you really should get yourselves a Y-Wing. It's the logical choice.🖖

My original ‘82 Y-wing is still is great condition despite tons of play, but I never had a droid for it. Always (for some reason) always wished an R5-D4 but when allowance is all you have as a kid, you have to be picky. The droid never made the cut. I never knew til I was an adult that the astrometric figures fit but were super loose.
So, now begins the journey of finding aftermarket, fan-made stuff for that purpose and I’m so glad you covered this aspect in the vid! 🙂

Good video. My Y-Wing is one of the prides of my collection. Took forever to source original parts. I recently ran across another one that is missing all sorts of pieces. Like you I will be using reproduction parts for that one.

The Y-Wing seems to be the more sought after ship in the Star Wars universe. I would put it right up there with the Millennium Falcon. Your restoration was incredible to watch. There is just something about that laser cannon sound that puts a smile on your face when you hear it. You have a true piece of art now👍

I love it! Y-wings are supposed to be rugged, love the look the new parts give the fighter. Fantastic and realistic video on this: it took me about 5 tries to get those gear teeth to line up AND remember to get the other parts installed when putting the cover on. I kept a Y wing shell I found at a flea market for more than 25 years and did not restore it until I found this amazing community. Seeing you restore this makes me very happy!

I love it!!! I had one when I was a kid but it was bare bones and the front landing gear also was broken. My mom bought it at a garage sale back then, probably 1988 or 89. It was in the same state as the one in this video so it was really cool to see this restoration. Its almost like watching my childhood toy be fixed the way it should have been. Thank you for this!

I always felt the Y-Wing was the bastard child of the rebel airforce, and as I never owned one I am impressed by the size and its features. For me, it is better than the X-Wing and your restoration has provided the confidence to tackle one in the future! Thanks Analog Toys!

Nothing wrong with reproduction replacement parts. The people that get worked up about it are idiots, ruining toy collecting and fandom in general. Anyway, it's a lovely restoration. Looks great. If Stan Solo comes out with a proper Y-Wing pilot figure (the Y-Wing's got their own, distinct pilot uniforms in RotJ), that would be a great way to display the toy. Great job, Tony.

    • @charlielundsberg8361
      @charlielundsberg8361 6 месяцев назад

I see both points. No different than buying a restored car. As long as you're happy or as long as you're transparent if you sell it that it has repro. I prefer all original but you pay for that. I detest repro guns or accessories on figs - thats shady. Don't mind as much for the parts on ships but I've never had a problem finding original parts.

She's a beauty! I always liked the Y-Wing. She reminds me of the F-111 Aarvark, the first aircraft I was trained on as a specialist. A heavy but fast two seater that packs a very heavy punch.

Great video! As a Joe collector, and a responsible family man, I was stuck trying to justify spending big bucks on a complete Mauler. I went the 3D print route too. It allowed me to assemble a really nice example I can enjoy now, instead of spending years finding original parts priced in my budget range. I'll slowly replace the 3D parts, but for right now, I couldn't be happier with what I've got.

@@AnalogToys just an update Tony...the Saga 1999 edition is internally different to the Vintage collection - no connection to front landing gear and the battery compartment is sealed shut - so no play value there, just static with a better paint job! Plus the separation between the top and bottom hulls requires removal of two plastic screw covers which don't come off easy. Thought I'd add this in case anyone thinks they are the same.

The sculpt on it is far superior to the X-Wing, yet that gets all the press. The Play features included in this one far exceed most other Rebel ships, as well. The fact that it has a two-piece bomb, a cockpit, a Swivel Action Gun with accompanying sound, and a slot for a Droid just puts it on the Mt. Rushmore of Kenner SW ships for me.

Let's take a step back on this feature. The master vehicle patterns would have possibly been at least 4:1 with a tooled 1:1 material thickness of 1.5 mm. Now imagine working out the locations of all the parts, their functions, the mechanical design (and the durability of those features), material specs, toy safety and so many other factors and you realise just how amazing these toys are and worth renovation- all done under intense deadline pressures, and you will realise what an accolade this homage to the toy industry is. These designers were real heroes-- and all without computer aided technology. Great feature again. You purists really lose out here, you probably wouldn't have the patience to attempt this type of thing anyway!!

    Good afternoon greetings
I just found your video, I am writing from Mexico, for the following reason, I like Star Wars and I have a Vintage Y-Wing Fighter, from the Mexican Company Lili Ledy, the toy was mine from when I was a child; I gave it to a brother and the years passed and my brother returned it to me, it turns out that I gave it to him completely; but I return it without turbines, without the cannon on the top of the cabin, I also lack the front cannons, I only have the pump.
Luckily I have the R2-D2 that fits in the socket; an R2-D2 from that time; but without the decal.
One question knows where I can get my missing Y-Wing Fighter parts and R2-D2's body decal.
Thank you very much for the video I loved it and I send you greetings from Mexico.
    Sincerely, Mario Alberto Casillas Ochoa.

There are people who sell reproductions of the stickers, www.ebay.com/str/zacparistoyaccessories is one that a lot pf people use for replacement stickers. For Y-Wing parts, decide if you're strictly looking for originals or if you would be satisfied with reproductions. Check on eBay and etsy.com for either.

@@AnalogToys Thank you very much for answering my question so quickly. I really thank you, I have been looking for the parts of the Y-Wing Fighter for years, the truth is that it is very difficult to find the original parts and if one finds them they must be expensive, but in the case of the Y-Wing as it is from the Lili Ledy factory, who had the Star Wars license, I don't think I could find them years ago they sold me an OTC Y-Wing, but I didn't have the heart to take the parts and leave the OTC Y-Wing without those parts. Since I really love the Y-Wing. Thank you very much, I hope they send the reproductions to Mexico. God bless you and thank you again for the quick response to my question. Greetings from Mexico.

“Hot soapy water?” Careful Tony, you might have to start paying Toy Polloi royalties if you keep that up.

I looked at the price of parts and chose to buy my own printer, I've now purchased models would otherwise not be interested in and printed the parts, in some places I have even design my own parts and shared. Now have a large collection but no space.
