The most tragic part of all of this is that Guts finally chose to forego vengeance, finally made a healthy decision, and ONCE AGAIN Griffith has taken that away from him. He can't keep Casca safe without confronting Griffith. Not to mention the fact that Griffith is kind of his kid.
Tbf, it’s a good direction to take if they want to continue the story (and they better if they want to tease a confrontation like this). I hope guts can meet up with Rickert and Kushan magician guy, before circling back with the team to mess Griffith up royally.
This is why where Miura left the manga can't be a good ending, as opposed to what some fans thought. Guts and Casca can't live peacefully as long as Griffith is around.

Honestly one of my fav chapters. It felt very “miura” to me.
I love how they r sticking with the theme of guts being beneath Griffith. Guts is always looking up at Griffith and trying to reach him, whilst Griffith is always looking down at him

He wanted to keep Guts only to himself but when he failed to do so, he realised Guts has reached out of his hands. That is when he decides to become more powerful regardless of the path which he might have to follow...

Just imagine how Guts is feeling in this moment. After all that he’s already been thru and now seeing Griffith flying off with Casca…man I just want him to find some happiness.
It’s a total defeat. The amount of hell he’s fought through to find her, save her, keep her safe and finally get her back mentally and within a moment Griffith comes to snatch her up with complete ease.

You can definitely feel Mori and Gaga getting more comfortable with dialogue. It might feel awkward in spots but I think that’s due to the current translation. This chapter felt good, felt longer and more like berserk imo. Hittin feels.
Definitely. I'd never seen more awkward dialogue, or lack thereof, than I did in the previous chapters. Now though, I think we're in good hands.

@@hyvsan9425 ill agree to a certain extent. Some panels in here definitely lack that “Kentaro Muira” level of quality.
The long horse neck for example. But also the panel of Guts Anguish as he reaches towards the sky as his accomplishments slip away from his grasp.
I feel like Muira would have worked on that single panel for months, trying to get guts’s facial expression and body posture absolutely flawless.
But credit where its due, the smaller panels with the backup characters are pretty good. Little more cartoony than Muira’s but he was a master at his craft, so cant blame him.
they absolutely nailed guts' reaction at the very end, his heart just collapsing seeing casca being taken by griffith, after the whole time after saving casca from the tower of conviction never once left her side, being her guardian, and now everything hes done to get her back to normal seems wasted to him, and losing her to griffith is to him the biggest failure as her protector
It's pretty shocking seeing him suddenly devoid of rage in a situation like this. Between him resisting the berserker armor and now this reaction, I think we're seeing a new stage in his development. I don't know exactly how he's changing, but I can feel it. His visit to the island and this new sudden tragedy are going to make him change something about how he approaches his problems. This is going to be the final straw, but in a good way.
@@TheGreenKnight500 Guts had never experienced hope until they got to Elfhelm, he only survived to survive and his first real friendship with Griffith ended up tragic with Griffith being a husk of himself after being tortured because Guts wasn’t there only for him to be reborn and take everything Guts cared for in the most brutal way. I think he was always so hard and detached and after vowing to protect Casca he was on an auto pilot mode for so long. Only when he got to Elfhelm with his new companions did he start to open up again, allow friendships and now that Casca is finally back, although she can’t see him, I think Guts was just happy she was back and had all the patience in the world trusting that she would be able to look at him in the future.
For the time being, he had done his job, he protected her and helped repair her mind. In the timeline she just spoke her first words to him a few hours ago, he had finally let himself hope that things would get better and slowly but surely they’d be able to figure out what type of future they will fight to have.
Then Griffith comes and takes her like taking candy from a baby.
Guts has lost his hope after gaining it for the first time in his life. I don’t think he’s ever truly felt despair like this in his life, because you can’t lose what you don’t have and you can’t have your heartbroken if you don’t love.
Old Guts would just push through and tear apart anything near him, but this is Guts knowing he’s losing his strength and that, just like the Eclipse, his friends are scattered out of reach and Casca is taken by the man he considered a brother. For all we know, Guts is feeling the PTSD he’s shoved from his mind since the Eclipse because he’s been too occupied, but right now he’s in a shock thinking it’s going to happen all over again.
For the first time guts has the feeling of defeat in his eyes. In the entire story even when he was little that look wasnt present until now. For my opinion guts will loose his mind completely from his PTSD and its going to be hard to watch

I'm sure Griffith taking Casca to Falconia won't bite him in the ass later. Where apostles are at, very curious about her brand no doubt. It makes me wonder if Casca's brand could bring up a very possible situation. If Casca and Charlotte were in danger at the same time, who would Griffith reach out to? He told Guts on the Hill of Swords that he wouldn't betray his dream but he also instinctively cannot allow harm to come to Casca. It's a losing hand for him either way and I'm sure the Moonlight Boy isn't done giving Griffith problems.

@@InfamyOrDeath-__- I wouldn't doubt it but if he can't and he has to order the apostles to not attack her then he's telling them to go against the only commandment demons have which is to do why they want. I'm sure most will listen but it will only take one to cause problems. Another thing I've noticed is that Griffith is vulnerable when he acts on impulse. When he fought against Guts when he was leaving the band of the hawk he couldn't think straight and he ended up losing. Either way this turns, Griffith will have the short end of the stick.
On a side note, I guess the Captain genuinely cares about Farnese considering the fact he was more worried about her condition despite being on the verge of getting devoured by the demons.

@@RealLifeRyan I have a question if you don't mind. What are your thoughts on the subject of Berserker armor not activating despite the amount of rage he felt when Griffith showed up? Just curious.
@@anjaneyasreetrout2444 It's shown creeping up his back, but he resists it as he lunges at Griffith. He's trying to use it with controlled rage now, and that change is likely because of how much permanent damage overusing the armour has done to him by this point since he can't even swing his sword or see clearly without it now.

@@purerage7963 That seems possible. But personally I am not sure because Guts has never shown success at controlling the armor without any support from Schierke.
So it kinda feels like it came out of nowhere.
The way Griffith cupped Casca's breast while leaving and looking at Guts silently killed a part if me. I know that it is drawn as if he is carrying her... But there were other places that he could have held than her breast area. I really do feel for Guts atm.
It probably reminded him of the scene where he fondles Casca's breast in the eclipse.
I'm not sure that was his intent tbh...he is her son in a messed up way
Right like that was such a good attention to detail from a writing perspective and killed a part of me as well
noticed that detail and it made me so mad...
At first I didn't take that detail in completely but then when I realized he could of held some place else like her shoulder or somewhere less uncomfortable it just makes me fume. Not to mention he's just doing this to spite Guts like making him rewatch another bad moment
This was a painful read, the look on guts face really hit me in the feels :(

He definitely acts like an jealous ex. Griffith is for sure in love with guts i used to think it was just a meme but his behaviour is off a toxic ex.
@@Miuranger1 They were never "together", so there's no acting as a "toxic ex" here. Griffith is obsessed about control, and that is what motivated him to act the way that he did throughout the manga - before, during and after the eclipse.

His "you belong to me" when they first met has become more ominous with each passing arc.
I think Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga are starting to settle in and get more confident in what they're doing, this felt closer to Miura's work than 365-367 in my opinion. The art is still a bit awkward in places, but it's nothing awful, and it could get redrawn for the volume releases, who knows.
With Guts in such despair, is it time for The Black Swordsman, Once Again, Again?

@@Weeby_historian i think thats why its my favorite chapter of the new berserk chapters, more dialogue, showing whats going on with more characters, and more shit going on thats saying to us something major is happening amidst all this chaos, i cant see this all just happening out of nowhere without something big happening after this, like the prediction that the 4 remaining godhand are appearing very soon

@@MFDOOOOM Agreed, I think the team should get more time to draw and edit. Maybe releasing chapters every month is adding a lot of pressure on artists. But one must agree they did great job at drawing despair on guts face.
I gotta admit, I was nervous when I saw where they were heading with the story, with them seemingly capturing Casca at the end of the last issue. But the new team did a great job of portraying Guts' despair here. The terror in his face as he's realizing what he is seeing is superb and spot-on. The only other scene I can think of that mirror'd this kind of despair would be the eclipse, itself.
Guts might have some of his traits in black swordsman back because of this.
Blind rage, Anger and restlessness but this time its to rescue Casca and not bloodlust.
Same thing I was thinking. The Guts in the black swordsman/lost children was an absolute force of nature and damn near unstoppable, Guts needs to reclaim that part of him in order to defeat Griffith and Zodd

The story has already explored blind rage, anger and restlessness a lot. I hope they explore something new with this. Sadness maybe.

Once Guts learns where Griffith lives, he's going to start coming up with a plan. Griffith can't be overpowered, but maybe he can be put in checkmate.

Considering how the demon child was the key to partially healing her mind in the dreamscape (albeit with the thorns still there), I doubt she'll go back to potato. She's probably going to be very motivated to free the moonlight boy from Griffith--how possible that actually is is a whole other issue. But I have a feeling that if Griffith is to go down, Casca would be instrumental in that. Makes his personally kidnapping her more ironic.

My mans so dang sad, pretty much given up. I love how the scenery in this chapter changes from all bright to mostly darkness as the demons and shit appear. Really shows how peaceful elfhelm was compared to the rest of the berserk world.
My favorite part was when Guts said "It's berserkin' time" and berserked all over himself

This is just a reminder that Griffith is way beyond defeat, he is inevitable and Guts just so happens to casually be alive. Fkin depressing 😭
O Griffith is far from that. Griffith has not one but two weaknesses(one of them is Casca).
Even if he's beyond defeat, Griffith can't escape the consequences forever.

Being so close to him for long periods of time might force her to recall all those memories. It's going to be like pulling off the world's biggest band-aid. I think she'll recover though and then she'll have something to say on the matter.
Yeah I think we are going to be cutting to Casca's perspective in Falconia a lot going forward. Half the story is likely going to be Casca and Sonia and Charlotte and maybe even Luca, and some possible illuminations on Griffith's character. And possibly, Griffith will end up being taken down ultimately from the inside. All them hoes are gonna be big mad at Griffith if they find out from Casca that he's just a fucking r*pist. Prostitutes more than anyone fucking hate r*pists.
The key in her dreamscape was the demon child but her heart still had thorns. It'll be interesting to see how that foreshadowing plays out
This chapter hit me hard in the feels. Gut’s despair was so amazingly drawn even I felt that emotion . Amazing job
This chapter made me feel something I have not felt in a long time when it comes to Berserk. I'm used to see Guts consumed by rage and even sadness, he has been determined, he has been happy and hopeful a few times, but seeing him so desperate and helpless, knowing there is litterally nothing he can do, that is something we have not seen in a while.
It reminded me of him runnin away from the cave after the eclipse, knowing that there was nothing he could do, that he was unable to solve it. Everything he loves and fights for is taken away from him(this time literally), and realizing that at this specific moment no matter how strong he is or how much he swings his sword, he can´t do anything to stop it, is heartbreaking.
I know he will try to get her back, obviously, but still, that feeling of absolute impotence ,desperation and defeat is so strong in this chapter. But he is a strugler, he will bounce back, maybe even stronger this time, I can't wait to see what happens next.
Loved this chapter. So far I can say I'm so happy that Mori+the team are committed to this story. They're really doing a great job, and the fanbase as a whole seems to be understanding and showing their appreciation as well.
I'm really happy with this chapter. We actually have a decent amount of dialog and it adds a lot more meat to this one. The new author was definitely easing into things with the previous chapters, and now he's getting more bold. It's really good to see. Despite the tragic plot, this chapter has put my mind at ease about things going forward. I'm more excited than ever about where they take things from here.
Man hopefully in the next chapter we can get the beast of darkness mocking him. Saying things like "It's just like that moment of that hell, Powerless, have you really forgotten about it".

@@paxonite-7bd5 at least now we know where skull knight was at while he was not seen with guts and friends. He was getting a wild upgrade on his horse elfhelm style except he had to cut it short when he sensed Griffith and that’s why his horses neck is sporting a giraffe style lol
I reckon in the next chapter Guts is lost on what to do with everything he has done so far just for Griffith to show up & take away the one thing he swore never to lose again... Casca.
I believe this is when he gives in once more allowing the beast of darkness to get him out of this situation but has control of what he's doing maybe mastering something from when he saw the blacksmith as he never went to it when the worst was has just stood in front of him.
Plus I believe Guts & co will have a huge advantage going forward taking Danan with them being a powerful being possibly helping teach Schierke more powerful abilities & another individual that has a deal to settle with Griffith which will pose a threat just like Flora did.
Maybe Skull Knight will jump in & help Guts once more too escape the island & tells Guts "you have come this far, do not falter. There is one who has touched him" referencing Rickert is the only one who has physically touched Griffith & was out of the loop of the Eclipse. Guts needs to find him now time would have passed by who knows on elfhem.
Griffith having his hand on Casca’s breast, even tho it’s just a benign aspect of how he’s carrying her, it just adds to the absolute awfulness of what’s happening seeing as the panel is specifically from Guts’ POV in that moment 😔

Haha, I've always been conflicted with this desire-- i want the darkness back but at the same time, my deepest wish was for Guts to find peace.
Like I've been trying to tell folks since 363 dropped. The entire way to save Casca AND the White Hawk (Moonlight Boy) AND the world AND get his revenge is by MLB's soul to be fixed to the berserker armor, like the boy was hinting at in 363. there's a reason Miura included prior to this the fate of Gaeseric and bonedaddy. If you fix the soul to the armor, the boy will forever be without a body. The scar Casca wanted to give guts... is nothing more than a suit of armor, set to live out the rest of it's days in a shell.
There is no turning back now, strugglers. The fates are intertwined now more than ever. The only way forward now is through the pain. The only way forward... is destroying the godhand, Griffith, and the IoE (As he and the godhand use the brands to murder souls). If they don't do all of that, then Guts and Casca, as well as the world itself, is doomed. Now it's not about vengence or revenge. It's about saving everyone and everything, no matter the cost. STRUGGLE TO THE END, BRANDED ONE! Whether you do that as a broken man (thus completing the shared fate of Guts and Griffith as he becomes as weak and frail as he post torture) or as a corpse, fret not! You did everything you could. You perserved through hell itself.
Also. I know it's in all of our hearts right now...

I hope that the series will not just end without a "good" or just "acceptable" ending. If the message behind berserk is "You struggle for the sake of struggling but you will die in the end" would just suck, over the message that (personal opinion) think is at the core of Berserk: no matter the odds, the sacrifices or the adversities, you have to strive forward and give your damnest. Is not a fable or a fairy tail of goodness, but it still better than utter depression.
Ahhh i cant wait to see how the struggler’s story will end!
I think they’re definitely going to try and do Puck justice, which I’m very happy for. Isidro too it seems. Miura seemed to use the two mainly for comedic relief. (Not that I blame him, Berserk was very dark when the two were introduced, so them falling into such a role was sort of understandable.) Now we got Isidro stepping up to the plate of his own volition. Stellar stuff really.
In addition I think the art looks better and better each chapter, only thing I feel they’re having trouble with is Guts himself. Which is very understandable in my opinion, no offense, I acknowledge that Griffith is beautiful, but to me Guts is like pique manly beauty. Dude’s just stunning.

Elfhelm seams to have been built on top of a dark underbelly of a bunch of dark, restless souls. Since Zodd opened the astral realm by travelling there, they are able to move freely. (or perhaps just Griffith's presence)

This chapter was so good, really made me appreciate the teams efforts continuing this story. They’re doing a great job with the broad story strokes and the small character moments

1:19 what about the Wicker Men and how they're created? Also, maybe the power of the tree made it so that dark spirits were asleep/calm or something (alongside almost canceling out the brands of sacrifice's power.) We saw that there are dark spirits on the island when Schierke connected with one that wanted an apple, and no one of the magician students knew it was there.
If they have Skull Knight with a "Steel yourself once more" line to Guts or something I'd be mad hype for it. Someone's gotta have his back or he's gonna just wig tf out

I'm honestly shocked. I didn't think it would be as heartbreaking as this (not in a bad way, but yeah, it still hurts). I hope beyond hopes that they can at least mount some kind of offensive against the darkness and, mote than anything else, I hope Casca isn't lost to us again.

I love the thematic semblance shared in visual imagery, in the wake of the destruction of elfheim and gut's torturous abandonment as both the worlds finally crumbled down deep into the abyss that threatens to drag them into the swirl of unending grief and suffering.
And about the face expression of Guts, remember people, he has shown this exact face when he first encountered Zodd. He will refuel his strength and killing instincts because that's what Guts does, he ain't giving up that easy.

Me too. Finally the Griffith side will be really interesting. Not that it was terrible or anything, but I always groaned when waiting 3 months during Miura's Berserk just to get a couple of Griffith chapters. Casca being there makes it a lot more interesting now.
I’m hoping as a consequence of this. We get that black swordsman part of Guts personality to come back for a bit.
What if puck died? I mean that flower elf died when her flower withered... considering the fact that the spirit tree is now gonna go down, it might just be the end of all those that were connected to it. Elf queen, puck, all the other elves might just end up dropping one by one now.

You (and the series) have helped me so much, you break things down in such a digestible wa and you've helped me convince many of my friends to get interested in berserk who never would have if I just told them to read the manga. I hope we get another Rickert like scene out of Casca towards Griffith when she wakes up. We probably won't, but man, I'd love to see her give him a good right hook all the same.

I'm more bothered by casca getting the princess peach treatment kinda makes all that work getting her mind back feel kinda pointless she might as well have stayed a potato.
This chapter really hits deep, I’m glad Berserk continues because if it didn’t we never would have seen these great new chapters!
Although people didn’t want this to happen the truth is this had to happen for the story to progress,Guts had no motivation anymore to go after Griffith he probably would have chilled on elfhelm until he died he had Casca back (for the most part) and she may have eventually got over her ptsd,now guts will go to falconia and be a badass again!
Griffith is a sick character, look, if he wanted Casca to be by his side, why he waited until her mind is restored to take her away and inflict further pain into Guts soul? He really wants Guts to develop into his own counterpart, his friend and enemy. After all, we all need a friend, in his sick way, Griffith also needs one.
Goddammit, I just want Guts to be happy... is that too much to ask? :(

I really loved this chapter so much for many reasons. The art is better and more detailed than the previous chapter, also we have so much dialogue in this chapter, this chapter was longest chapter so far by studio gaga, we get to see skullnight and Roderick, ,the chapter felt more like Miura's. Overall I'm satisfied with this chapter Kouji Mori and studio gaga are doing a great job with this continuation so far and they'll get even better the more they draw.
The only way to make this worse, is if Casca gets amnesia again.
Nah I think this next arc is gonna be casca’s character development and regaining some agency

Please god no. Making her a damsel in distress again is enough not potato casca again I understand the severity of her trauma but we went throught an entire arc of dealing with it the penis monsters and the giant hawk femto thing.
Bruh I can't remember the last time I cried so hard reading any novel this was truly painful to see guts in this state of truly looking defeat which he's never shown before my man's going through it 😭
As far as the way the dark spirits got there, remember the wicker men were made with sacrificed souls. Elf helm is not as innocent as it appears.

When mentioning the blob of angry souls in the beginning don’t forget about the wicker soldiers and how they explained those came to be created. The island definitely had a dark side at times and the same dead involved with that may be the souls used to form that giant mass

Remember guys Mori was a long time friend of miura, and partially inspired griffith. He didn't fly off with casca he flew off with Berserk itself. What's been replaced will never be the same but I'm happy to see that Mori has a part of him that cannot hurt Berserk, even though it used to be in the hands of someone who truly truly loved it.
He’s the only guy who Muira told the whole story from start to finish so hopefully he told them of every single detail in case something happens to him

Wait… this just made me consider something. THE BEHELIT! It only activates when someone is at their lowest of low, and is willing to sell their soul for something.
Guts looks absolutely broken. Everything he has worked for has been taken away by Griffith again. Could this possibly activate the Behelit? Could this be a turn for guts that he sells his soul to finally get revenge? Could he become like skull knight once he does?
He was about to get a normal life back with Casca. Live in safety from everything they have been dealing with. He was going to be there to help her recover!
He was ready to let his anger and revenge go. But Griffith came back just to take her away and spit in his face.

Except Guts cant use behelit since he is Griffith's Sacrifice. And whom he is going to give to Godhand? Isidro? Roderick? I doubt that he deeply cares about them.
I was so happy to see my boy Isidro being a total boss, protecting his lady. And then the total boss himself Skull Knight shows up, every time he does I just get filled with adrenaline. But Oh my God Guts, poor poor Guts, the look of despair on his face, they do such a wonderful job depicting emotion on Guts, from the panels where he first seen Casca and she broke down, the look of shock on his face there just filled me with dread and sadness. Poor Guts.
That face, that expression on guts scares me as hell. That’s because hatred is the place where men go when they can’t escape or hide from sadness and now more then ever guts feel sad. Imagine everything this legend has been trough just for the sake of his beloved one, and now she was taken away. Im 100% sure that’s gonna make guts out of his mind. He will go straight to his original vengeance path, no matter what, until he will got what he deserves, the head of the falcon.
The artstyle really spiked up and now really resembles Miura's art like 90%.
Gotta say man, my heart just sank when we get that POV shot of Guts reaching out. These chapters fuckin hurt.

If it's been a goal of Griffith/The Godhand to destroy the spirit trees in order to fuse the physical and astral worlds, what if the tree on Elfhelm had been hidden from them this whole time, but due to Griffith's connection to Casca as the Moonlight Boy, the group inadvertently lead Griffith to the island so he could destroy it?
If anything those panels of Guts with Casca flying off should put a lot of fears about Koji Mori and Studio Gaga to rest. Damn that absolutely floored me.

I am wondering what kind of magical trickery are they going to have to pull off to get off the island. I gotta think that Skull Knight can probably slice through reality like he did in Quiploth and at least get them back to the mainland or something.
also the final shot is a great payoff to the "puck will bring a dark tempest to the island" prophecy, very cool!

How about the fact that Casco has a brand of sacrifice while also being the Moonlight Boy's object of care?
I was under the impression that after the eclipse when Guts and Casca escaped without being sacrificed, that in some way, Griffiths Ascension to the Godhand was incomplete.
Does Griffith actually require Guts' and Casca's sacrifice? And if he does, in what way will that conflict with his inner Moonlight Boy's priorities?
The darkness / souls were the thing used to maintain Elfheim's peace and source of energy.
Volvapa under the surface of Elfhelm may be able to combat these dark spirit blobs overtaking the island. In 361, it is said that she is a master of curses and manipulation of departed souls.
I like the prophecy associated with puck that like a small gust of wind would leave elf helm and come back as a raging tempest. Lol.
After a month of reading, i finally caught up to berserk and i must say im looking forward to the manga's progression. Berserk is now one of my favorite works of fiction!
Was I the only one that thought for a second that guts was gonna make a sacrifice with the behelit. Seeing everyone's reaction to this chapter shows me that the despair and hopelessness is real and another thing was when the spirits were chanting "sacrifice" around him, like they were trying to coax him into it. It'd maybe give him the power he needs to beat Griffith along with the berserker armor and it'd bring Griffith right to him since he's a part of the god hand

So Elf Island was using these things for energy / resources, but when Griffith popped up in his adult form rather than the moonlit child he caused them to spill out. Might end up being that a lot of the power found in elf island can be attributed to them
Overall, there were a lot of improvement on the arts, but SK horse's neck definitely not proportional to realistic design, making it rather cartoonish then regal majestic.
The look of despair from Guts was on point, kinda similar to how he was completely sad from his lie to The Count's daughter, back in Black Swordsmen arc.
The darkness stuff within Elfheim actually has been teased multiple times in previous chapters. When Shierke traied to summon darkness from a tree, then the witches dark places akin to qlipoth. There were also many dead people in Elfheim, invaders/intruders that tried to occupied the land, being magically trapped into a giant wicker man.
