- If you find yourself heading from the nearby beaches to Palma Airport in Majorca (PMI) for an early flight before the buses start, don't worry - there's no need to fork out for a taxi, JUST WALK :) In my short video, I'll show you how...
I walk from Ca'n Pastilla to Majorca's Palma Airport in less than half an hour.

Done this walk today. The on,y update I can provide since Steve’s excellent video is that when you exit the bridge the roadworks on the walk to the airport are now complete with a lane for one way traffic and clearly marked lanes for cyclists and pedestrians. Therefore if anyone was worried about safety because of traffic this is not as issue.
Cheers for the update Gareth!
I did the exact same walk a few years ago after costing about €20 to get to my hotel from the airport. My hotel was just across from the lane and a could see the bridge from my room. Definitely worth the saving if you don’t have any baggage. ✈️
Totally agree with you! :)
Anything you put up is worth a watch Steve 👍
Ach cheers Richard!!!
Thanks for looking out for and helping your fellow travelers!
I once walked from the centre of Copenhagen all the way to the airport just for the heck of it (weather was good) and it is amazing what interesting buildings you see along the way.
Brilliant, well done, thanks!
Oh wow, I was lucky enough as a child, to be taken on holiday every year to Can Pastilla, it wasn't so built up then and was great to see a little bit of the beach area. Maybe I should take a trip down memory lane and go and visit again sometime soon. Thanks once again Steve and for the walk through to the airport, I new it was close, but not that close! 😳
Really enjoyed this fun and informative walk Steve. Really inspiring me to make even more myself thanks
Cheers Lloydi! Keep up the great work :)
There's something strangely exciting walking to/from an airport. My most memorable ones were to Oban (no great challenge there!) and from Faro, which offered a stunning introduction to the Algarve region.
My most memorable walk was from Bali Airport to my hotel in Kuta Beach. Dodge all the taxi touts. About 20 minutes. And we walked back for return flight.
Mate, I'm looking forward to walking to Dundee airport soon - excited to fly from there!
My 13 and 15 year old will love this walk! I can't wait now😂
Beautiful shore for relax in a good day 😊
Brilliant! I can cycle to Stansted and walk to Palma. Sorted
Happy holidays in Majorca Steve.
Thanks a lot Steve.
This was very interesting indeed.
Just goes to show, nothing beats the best 2 stroke motor of all ( your 2 legs ).
Very economical, cheap and healthy option ❤️👍👌
Enjoyable micro tour , thanks again.
Cheers Stasek!
Thanks for this, excellent video! I love walking and always try to walk to and from airports!
So glad you saw this video! I agree - love trying to be creative and find a path (even when there is no path!)
It of course had to be a Scotsman to find the way to save al fares to the airport! 🥳
Another ace one, Mate!🤗
Haha ain't that the truth :D
@@steve-marsh I'm wrong half the times, so there's a 50:50 chance. 🤷♂
This remineds me that when I was in Dubrovnik, rather than taking an expensive Uber back to the airport, it was much more relaxing to take the ferry to Cavtat and have a nice lunch there before taking a short and cheap taxi to the airport from there.
I'm never going to need that, but I watched anyway 🤣🤣
It's just nice seeing sunshine while we have the mid winter blues and flus here!☀️🍹
Haha (but I'd happily take some winter right now Kelley!)
Mate,fantastic video 🙌🏻
Another thing you have done so we don't have to (unless in dire straits). That's very selfless of you. Many thanks. 👍😂
Ha ha nice one. Your starting point is the town where most people with hire cars, including us, stop to refuel before dumping the cars back at the airport. Nice to see a different way of covering those last few kilometres! 🚘
Tight-fisted Scotsman eh? :D
i grew up with Spanish speakers and have struggled with their language…your “it’s called whatever that says” hit hard as it’s something my Latino uncle once said while trying to read English 🤣
i’m a miser so anything that saves money is good with me. and it’s informative, so it’s a good video in my eyes
Haha cheers mate :)
Bloody hell Ste - you are getting around, good on you
Bravo! Merci 😊
Interesting video Steve. I myself sometimes investigate and take a local bus from airports into the city or town in preference to an Express Coach Service or a taxi. A bus of local folk, getting on and off, going about their daily lives is more interesting than a bus full of tourists. Times of flights and proximity of airports can make walking perfectly feasible. Aéroport de Poitiers-Biard is an example. There is no shuttle bus service to or from this airport, and any taxis have to be pre-booked. The nearest local bus stop involves a walk and if the bus timetable accommodates the town is 20 minutes away. Even having to walk the whole way is not a great inconvenience and takes 30 minutes. Of course, in many airports it is far easier to make use of any Express Coach Service but why not add to the holiday's enjoyment, if luggage and the kitchen sink is not an issue
Ideal if you only have a couple of backpacks between you. Not sure I’d like to drag suitcases along there 😝
I was a bit skeptical at first but I must admit that the route doesn't look bad at all! I might even suggest it the next time I need to travel hahaha
This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot!! I’ve found that this is often the case, you CAN walk but you need to find the right path and it’s normally not advertised or shown on the map since the transfer companies want their money I guess… same at for example Brussels airport to city centre.
So glad it was helpful :)
I really enjoyed that video. Granted we didn't see any lighthouses or tunnels or water or fish and chip shops but I like the fact that I cahave a chance so once again admire your stamina. Mine consists of, never mind we won't go into that. Say "hi" to Alicja for me. Be well, stay safe, travel far, love from Texas.
Good one Steve, thanks for that form me in Irvine 🤗 🤗
Cheers Grace! :)
Legend.
Brilliant.Ive thought this before when I walked from the beach to Centauro car hire on the outskirts of the airport. After a look Google stretfinder ive noticed since your video a green cycle/pedestrianised lane has been put in place from the gap in the fence that intermittently goes to the terminal.looks easy and I'm going to try it.Great video thank you.
Cheers Paul! And for the updates on the route :)
Much appreciated pal, I’ll be doing this on Tuesday thanks
Good luck! I believe the road near the airport is a lot better now!
Can you please give us an update about the pavement? I'll take the route on Friday. Thanks in advance and have a nice holiday.
This is really helpful, thank you! Just looking to walk up to the beach from the airport and it seems pointless to be getting a bus if it’s this close… catch all the sun!
Nice video, interesting to see other locations in the world. Noted it's pretty dry there also. Your Spanish is fairly good Senior Steve. 20 minutes, maybe 2 miles then.
I’m literally watchin this video walk-in with u 😂
Thanks for this. Worked a treat. They are laying a new surface on the stretch between El Cid and the footbridge. Safe all the way.
Great info, cheers!
fantastic information. just what i was looking for along with this video!
Despite it's not about Scotland (LOL) and Spain is definitely not my holiday-destination, it's again an enjoyable video.
Cheers Henk!
Spain is an amazing and diverse place, well worth exploring
It all depends on where you start, I support.
I've gust cam across this video as I'm traveling to mallorca next week gust did a nice walk to the airport in lapland from santa clause villiage was refreshing 😊
Have a great time!
Thanks a lot. I'll try is on friday morning. :)
Good luck! It's slightly easier now I believe that the construction has finished
@@steve-marsh Thanks a lot for your answer. Is it also possible to walk from airport to Can Pastilla by using the same way?
@@steve-marsh I walked from the airport to can Pastilla on last Tuesday. The construction has finished. It was a beautiful way to walk if you don't have to much to carry. Cheers.
"If you've got DHL on your right handside, you're on track!" You just made the day of a 20+ year DHL customer service employee, Steve! :)
Hey Steve I hope you had a great trip to Mallorca. I worked for many years at a company just down the road from the airport and used to see so many tourists dodging the motorway traffic trying to walk to Can Pastilla or into Palma. It was nuts. Yeah you can do this route, but thanks for showing quite a safe route, but honestly the government need to map out a safer way of getting there so people don't go somewhere they shouldn't (ie. over the motorways) but then I guess then thinking of all the lost revenue doing this :$
Hey thanks so much for your comment! Yeah, totally agree with you. And it's not just PMI, airports all over the world these days are doing all they can to avoid foot traffic, I've noticed it at ferry terminals etc as well. It's a shame, and I think, like you say, all about revenue! Governments pretend to encourage 'healthy lifestyle' but won't let us walk to an airport?! :D
Enjoyed the walk, Steve, always enjoy the videos, should save some money for the young and light travellers
Exactly, I hope it helps someone out :)
"and it is called.... it's called whatever that says" 😆
When I had my liveaboard sail boat berthed in Ca'n Pastilla about 32 years ago I often walked to the airport. Much more rural back then and no walk overpass. Just cross the roo0ad and as far as i can remember the same lane over to the airport. I had my sailboat about 6 years in Mallorca so I know Palma airport very well. First time fly Palma on cheapie weekend special mmmm 1969. Think about GBP 23 for flight and 3 nights nice 3 star hotel on the beach at Palma Nova.
Superb Alex!
I’d definitely use this route for a flight during the day, but for a 6am flight, I’d pony up the €30. Thanks, Steve!
I did it the next morning in the dark, it was scary! :D
Hi Steve, I don't know how I missed this one. I've just booked a flight to Palma and deciding whether to stay here or Palma and found this wonderfully helpful airport hack. Thanks very much.
Have a great time :)
How much are accommodations in November? I fly there in few days and didn't book anything except fligh ticket
@@steve-marsh I did. I stayed in Cala Major, visited Palma (of course) Soller & Valledemossa. I cannot wait to return some day.
@@Om999- Too many variables, it depends on area/location, number of people and the length of stay and quality required. It will be low season so prices are lower. It is up to you to decide these factors.
Fabulous. I'd found the footbridge on google maps but was trying to work out how to get into the airport. Google street view does seem to show that it has been marked on the ground now. The buses are easy too however.
I had the same issue in Bali. It took me 15 mins with a suit case to get to my hotel.
Here is another tip. If you want to get into Lisbon - or points North - from the airport, it is a short walk to Pedras Rubras station where the modern trams will take you into the city or North to Povoa da Varzim.
Done that many times mate! Last time in July however, the gap in fence was blocked!
Proper little Jet Setter ain`t ya...... Not sure about lumping a load of luggage but great to see there are options...... Not that I will be using anytime soon.... :-)))
Watched all...interesting and like many other comments I too have walked from an airport to onward transport dodging traffic and roadworks.
P.S. waiting now for a destination video ... sunnier climes? To para phrase "we ain't in Scotland now"
Enjoy Jan Adeaide
Cheers Jan! Ahh not there at the moment I'm afraid, but glad of it - too hot! :)
Thanks Steve that is what a traveler needs inside info. Why pay €30 when you can walk it in 20 minutes. Excellent video!!
Cheers Jack!
... always enjoy your video tours of the Scottish coastline.
This must be the stretch where the Armada wrecked their ships.
Haha yes! :)
Got me thinking about the airports I've walked to/from to get a plane or off one; Coventry, England/San Miguel, Azores/Corfu, Greece/Manama, Bahrain/Luton, England /Marieheim,Aland Islands/London City, England/Alderney Airport,Alderney ,Mexico City,Mexico and I think that is about it.All of those are about within 10km or less of the towns they serve .I did try to walk into Heathrow once and asked a policeman if you could walk through the tunnel and he said he didn't know but had never seen anyone do it so I got a bus!
Haha you get about mate!
Landed there once and got a taxi to Santa Ponca. I honestly thought I woud die. Lady taxi driver was as mad as a hamper of hedgehogs. Drove like an astronaught!!
Taxi drivers here in Mallorca are other thing
Good info for anyone who wants to save a few $$ Thx safe travel 😉
Cheers Linda!
good public info, wish it was as easy when i went to Malaga, 4pm taxi it cost me 30 quid, but its a fair drive to the airport from the city centre.
Ahhh I miss Malaga!
For Malaga there are super cheap trains from the airport, 1.80 euros to central!! They also run the other direction if say you wanted to get to Fuengirola, extremely good value around 2.70 euros
@@mikiex Fuengirola, what a town. yes i trained it down to there on a day return. also used local bus services to go see the balcony de Europe bout an hour from Malaga. would have trained to the airport but not at 4am.
Did anyone find out if you can hop on the shuttle bus that's meant for car park customers?
You spelled Palma Mallorca wrong, but Google Maps instantly knew what I wanted. I didn't even have to specify Airport.
Update: GM says that from the Hotel El Cid to the airport is a 40-minute walk, but that's without your shortcut through the long-term parking lot.
Of course, I'd first download the route using my hotels Wi-Fi first. (Hogg is a Scottish surname.)
One day I took a bus. Very comfortable.
A bit of a novel video from you this time but well worth watching.
Dont think I'll ever use the info but good to see the scenery as you walked.
You get about a bit don't you.
Anyway vg (lower case ) 9/10
You get about a bit mate 👍🙃😄
The reason taxi is expensive is that the airports in Spain charge taxis to enter the airport, just like in Edinburgh.
Cheers for the info
They do?! That seems really mean.
Would it be a bit tricky with luggage?
It's really not far at all, I'd still do it with luggage, but then that's me! :)
Steve - did you say you were doing this at 4am? Will in not be pitch black at that time on the morning and by yourself....?
Can you let us know what it was like at that time of morning? Also, did you have a torch?
This video didn’t show up among in my "Subscribed" tab. Did you do something to keep it out of there? I am asking because a friends has a channel and none of his videos show up there and we cannot understand why. Has he pulled the wrong lever?
Hey Jacob, yeah, this one was a little out of sync with other videos, so I popped it in quietly without letting subscribers know as it might have been a bit confusing for some! :)
Just passed dhl on my right defo on the correct route
Haha love it Peter!
Is Uber etc. not an option? With even minimal baggage, and age on the clock, that looks just a bit too long a route march! Even versus even 30 Euro ripoff. Good info for the young & fit, however.
This particular video is of zero use to me but i encourage videmakers to put these videos out. Theres been a fair few airports ive been tryin to find out walkin routes or even walkin to the public transport stops instead of paying the ridiculous airport bus fares, but struggle to find much info.
Cheers Johnny, aye, they're doing their best to cut off walking routes to so many airports these days for no other reason than making money!
Cheers Steve, think I would rather pay the €20 for a taxi 😂😂
I'm in the minority for sure :)
@@steve-marsh Same here haha
Not sure I'd be keen on this walk with 20Kg of luggage, but a useful tip nonetheless.
Thieving Spanish taxi driver vs. Tight fisted Jock.
Jock has a few beer tokens left in his pocket, taxi driver looses.
That was different.
20 minutes walk with a suitcase to save €20|30 😂😂
Only a sweaty sock would do that
Proper Nesbits
Niche audience indeed, but here we are.
Haha thanks :)
You need to download different portrayal of the world. Mine says it is 2.5 km walk. (avoiding banned word in comments)
There’s no pavement after crossing the bridge. Be careful! Bus ticket is 5€ from Can Pastilla. Or if u get a Tarjeta Ciudadana it’ll cost you 1€.
Yeah, but that was the problem - there are flight departures before the bus service starts
id do that if traveling light ie backpack only,,, with cases id negotiate a taxi, but not too sure if the taxi drivers have to pay a premium for pickups…. they have to earn a living….
Yeah, you're right - not having a go at the drivers at all, just the whole system. Airports have some scandalous policies and prices!
@@steve-marsh INDEED, I live not too far from Stansted Airport and as a "local" we get a special airport pickup swipe card so we can pick up friends/relatives/neighbours for 50p, wonderful I hear you say, well the bloody thing never works when you swipe it and you then have an interminable argument over the parking intercom...... FFS...
Brilliant stuff but in real life I'd be on my own as my wife would cast up on the money I spent on motorcycle parts,,suppose my great grandfather was Scottish, smart and thrifty 👍👍👍👍☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
The local Bus is €2.50 from C'An Pastilla to Airport.
But it doesn’t run early enough for the first flights of the day hence the video
@@steve-marsh 5:41 is the first one from Calla Estancia.
I wouldn't fancy doing that walk the dark! but thanks for the alternative route.
what bus is that? because the last couple of years its cost 5 euro?
Didn’t realise Catalan was the language in Majorca, or didn’t you mean that ?
Yeah, they speak a variant of Catalan in the Balearics, and also have a tendency to cut the ends of words which confuses me no end! Of course all Spanish people speak Castillian though, but the 'x's in Catalan really throw me :D
a taxi from Can Pastilla to the airport should cost 15€ I'd be super careful walking this route early morning or in the dark. People drive like crazy on the airport boundary roads.
I did it at 4am, aye a bit scary!
@@steve-marsh brave man 😂 glad you survived.
They certainly don't make it easy to get there on foot.
for the sake of 30e , i am in a taxi .
Fine if you have no bags and a grumpy family.
@@xr6lad 😂😂😂
Reinforcing prejudices about Scottish males? 😀
Haha YES!
Not with my kitchen sink.
Too complicated and dodgy footpaths so taxi for me . 30€ nothing after spending hundreds on holiday.
Fair enough Jim!
I’m a taxidriver from the Mallorca Airport and we charge 15€ to go from Can Pastilla to the airport. If you come to holidays and don’t want to spend 15€ in a taxi we don’t want this type of tourism, that’s ridiculous😉
You completely miss the point of the video. It's about choice and if this video is helpful to one person then it's done its job.
very good place to take a clean shot of pure heroin
Interesting video & very helpful for those that would like to try this option. I've parked at the long stay car park a number of times & I'm sure you could be cheeky & hop on the free bus to the airport, there are normally always a few other people waiting too & I don't remember ever being checked going in that direction. But traveling in the opposite direction back to the car park I definitely have been asked a few times for my Long stay ticket, I always have it ready just in case. 🚐🛫🌴☀️
