The Habana try is special to me for a couple of reasons: 1. Habana received the kick-off after he himself had just scored an excellent try in the corner. 2. I watched it live from Australia at 02:00am and woke the whole house up when he scored.
Love to see players beat a man with a side step or dummy… and when one player beats several players using trickery going half the pitch or more … that’s rugby magic.
As an young Irishman I was in awe of Cristian Cullen. Thinking back, I only actually got to see him in maybe 6 games due to game accessibility but I’m every game I saw, he just made some unbelievable line breaks. Only Lomu (a different type of player) could hold a candle to him.
As a South African I was in awe of him as well - he was exactly the kind of player that never would have been picked for the Springboks. Size was everything and he was on the "average" side sizewize. Back in the day, big players were put on the wing and at fullback, but he regularly made South African super rugby teams and the Boks look useless. The speed, agility and that swerve he had - the man was awesome.
@samurai from fj remember him well. Similarities with short career there also. I was a fan of him also but Cullen did grace Irelands shore (mind you didn’t do a lot when here) so that’s why Cullen stands out a little more for me.
I've known a few people that have Destroyed teams once or twice, but never consistent. The only names that did this on a regular was Jonah lomu and Rupens caucau. Those two are a league of their own. Legendary feats that I have not seen being replicated today. Edit: not forgetting Christian Cullen, the man was something else.
The Habana try is pretty special as the kick-off that he fielded and scored from was the restart from a long range try in that very corner... scored a minute earlier by Bryan Habana.
Some more Lomu, Hogg and Reiko Ioane belters out there, maybe for a part 2. Also highly recommend Rufus Maclean with a couple of his, and Matsushima as well (for Japan and one amazing one for clermont). Great to see some I hadn’t seen before!
great tries- but what about the classic one in the very first match of the first world cup (1987)- John Kirwan ran through the whole Italian team by himself.
No Lomu? No O'Driscoll? Shane Williams? Blanco? Larmour beating 5 Italians also springs to mind. Definitely enough out there for your to do another video.
Ah, that's the legendary O'Arundell for the Irish side, Lonodn Irish! Reminiscent of the great Denis Hickie who ran in nearly all of his international tries from inside Ireland's 22 as I recall. Usually because that's where we'd been encamped for most of teh game...
I've seen a bunch of people say that Arundell is like Cullen, but to me he's far more like Jason Robinson. Odogwo is another player like that. Both have short, massive thighs, and powerful glutes. Shorter , rapid strides. They scoot around. Cullen was pretty skinny and had longer strides. More of a gliding style.
Considering I only vaguely understand the basics of rugby based upon some loose similarities to American Football, those were fun. Especially the guy who drop kicked a bounce back to himself and the skinny dude Baker undressing the whole opposing the team.
I would add Nizaam Carr, last minute try Wasps vs Bristol Bears December 2019. Tackle me if you can. Even Charles Piutau can't take him. Still makes me smile every time I watch the try, started by Jimmy Gopperth dodging, stumbling left and right and all over to try to find a way through.
Man it was awesome being a teenager in Wellington as Cullen burst on to the scene. Then Jonah signed for the 'Canes and together with Tana we had our magic back three. Such a great time, we grew up with them, they were peaking during our party years. We would see them around town. Especially Jonah. He would pull up to the video game parlour in his GTR.. All the kids would follow him as he played all the games he wanted then he would get like $200 worth of tokens and hand them out before he left. And when he left all the kids would scream to him to "blast those sounds Jonah!!"... He had an insane (record breaking I think) sound system in his car... He'd rev the engine then put on some gangsta shit and OMG the 5 story building was shaking it was so loud! He'd burn off and everyone that was left there, all the kids, the adults that gravitated in, everybody - was like DAYM!!!! GO JONAH!!
One of the great individual tries i have seen recently , was by Chile's fly half Rodrigo Fernandez, during their 1st WC qualification match against the USA on July 9th this year. In pouring rain with mud up to the players boot laces , he took the ball about 70 yards out then proceeded to absolutely humiliate the USA, by scorching through over half the US team and scoring. If you do another video of individual tries , you have to include this absolute corker
Great compilation, there's a few I hadn't seen there. A few classics you could add for part 2: 1) Lomu obviously. 2)John Kirwin 1987 WC vs italy ruclips.net/video/tzb55_PVvRw/видео.html 3) Serge blanco vs Australia ruclips.net/video/ii7X0dJYFV4/видео.html 4) John Bentley for the 97 Lions vs Gauteng Lions. ruclips.net/video/hKMn1C_YrDQ/видео.html ruclips.net/video/2pBpxvujgUk/видео.html
ty great collection, my fav Morrison, for reds v lions, 2:00 mark etc. i watched a few of them many times watching footwork and defence mistakes but some of those trys were unstoppable and against structured defence not quite capable of stopping some hell dude goin off.
Every one of them a fabulous supply. But as maybe in only half of them was the player announced in the commentary … it would’ve been good if it was shown in a title, or they were listed in the description!!
Great Video...just missing Cheslin Kolbe, Quad Cooper and more Barret. Barret has some awesome skill moments. Check out Kolbe 50m drop. Will fit well with the theme.
Watching Campese ghosting across the All Black defence and running to the line was special. defensively he had issues but like Andy Irvine his attacking ability was brilliant.
They are all great tries. It only shows what one player can do.I see that both teams have their players in lines,so that the ball can be passed from one player to another player. As shown in the video ,this is a weakness,I would say.
The wingers getting a ball in space and cutting back in further down the field is hardly doing it themselves. The team set that space up. Otherwise great video.
Territory. Defense too good (your attack going nowhere). Trying to force a mistake or turnover. Sometimes it doesn't work out but it's part of the strategy. Better to play the game down the opposition end of the field, with or without the ball. Although counter attacks can happen. You need good kick placement but more important a flat line of now defenders coming up to pressure the few opposition back there.

Even more so when the the big guys do it 😀
@@evertonfrancis640 Nobody was bigger, or did it better than Jonah Lomu.
That run by Perry Baker... very nice to watch a good runner.
Mitchell's try against Clermont is my favorite. He beat 6 defenders for a solo try in a HCup final. The stage, the flair, it's a piece of art !
JONA LOMU ran through, over and around whole teams many many times, no one could what JONA could do.

Great video mate. You could have a whole video dedicated to Christian Cullen. He was unbelievably talented.
As an young Irishman I was in awe of Cristian Cullen. Thinking back, I only actually got to see him in maybe 6 games due to game accessibility but I’m every game I saw, he just made some unbelievable line breaks. Only Lomu (a different type of player) could hold a candle to him.
Agree, but where is Lomus 95 RWC V England Rampage... 4 Tries.
Agree, he retired as an All Black at the age of 27. Crazy!
Played in Munster for a few years. Absolutely brilliant.

it's Rupeni Caucau
@candidodemanchuria6 Frank Bunce was solid as! Conrad Smith was epic. Lomu transformed!! Could have played any position, snm 🤙🤙

exactly right, Cullen had the smoothest stride ever.
Considering I only vaguely understand the basics of rugby based upon some loose similarities to American Football, those were fun. Especially the guy who drop kicked a bounce back to himself and the skinny dude Baker undressing the whole opposing the team.
I'm always surprised by Ashton's pace for that try against Australia. We could do with a bit of that this weekend for the decider.
I don’t follow the sport but these were fun to watch. Thanks.

That is a beauty of this sport!

You could have chosen any of half a dozen tries by Cullen for this compilation.
i just watched it and i said to myself the cullen try was the best, he doesn't even need to try to get a try (scuse the pun) he's so composed.
Great tries, all of them - looking forward to the next instalment 😉

i remember that Blanco try, that guy was a legend, us kiwis usually hate french rugby players, but we all liked him.
That Baker try has to be up there as best of all time. The amount of footwork he had to put in. Obolensky status.
Nah -it was a sevens game, doesn't count
Talebula deserves to be named here. He scored some tries with bordeaux !
This was just AMAZING, even if I am not familiar with rugby as I am from Canada. 👍👍👍
Sho, that try by Habana. When God is playing for your side and the ball stays dead straight against all odds. 😅 Amazing!

Breathtaking!
You forgot about the BEST.. Rupeni Caucaunibuca ( Northland/ Blues & Fiji)
Laumape destroying Beauden Barrett and wrecking Blues Super rugby team is one highlight.
My favourite is LOMU’s try when he stepped over GB’s WILLKINSON!
Most unlikely must be from the big man Whitelock.
You could've done the whole video on Christian Cullen haha
No one of caucaunibuca?
Arundel. Try of the century

No John Kirwan vs Italy?!?
3:16 should be a red - sliding in knee first on Folau who is diving in to score. See it all the time and it's ridiculous it's not cracked down on.
1:34 with the steez. I don't watch rugby but he caught his opponent lackin
Baker is just different af. 5:38 is that dude you bring to a bar fight.
Il manque le plus fabuleux d'entre tous : Chabal !

The Paekākāriki express makes it look like a stroll in the park.
Habana..definitely one of the great tries..of any era.
if you haven't already watch Rufus Mcleans solo try, freighting!!!!!!!!
forgot when Dan Carter single handed demolished the B&I Lions
no one beats Caucau from Fiji
DUDE..rugby is a grown mans sport
Thank's
Cullen made it look so effortless that he looked bored at times scoring length of the field tries
You could just do a compilation of Jason Robinson and Shane Williams
I agree! Your man Jason had an absolutely blistering turn of speed on him. Always a pleasure to watch.
MsG
Must admit to not being a fan of Rugby....what i just witnessed blew my mind...
How about Marcus Smith's ridiculous solo try against Leinster (I think?)
Not Leinster. Outside of a pre-season friendly last year (which Smith didn't play in), haven't played Quins in ages.

The wingers getting a ball in space and cutting back in further down the field is hardly doing it themselves. The team set that space up.

The greatest individual try ever was John Kirwan vs Italy, 1987. Look it up on RUclips.
Fantastic ❤️❤️❤️❤️
When was the last one
I was confident I'd see a lot of Beauden Barret here
Where’s lomu 👀👀
He deserves and has his own compilations.
Wesley Fofana Twickenham 2013 ? Drew Mitchell RWC 2015 ?
Puts Arundells try in a bit of context here.
Best of the lot imo.
lovelly
Where are the Fijians? Rupeni, Rocket man Joe, Sivivatu?
Rugby is like each side has 15 running backs.
Noone really destroyed the entire time exact players like lomu or caucau, they literally did lol these are just tries that 1 player beat 1 or 2
Capuezzo ?
I have one question: How?
Did i miss Lomu ? didnt see him in here
How many of these tries were made after the opposition gifted the ball to the scorers by kicking? So why do they do it?
Territory. Defense too good (your attack going nowhere). Trying to force a mistake or turnover. Sometimes it doesn't work out but it's part of the strategy. Better to play the game down the opposition end of the field, with or without the ball. Although counter attacks can happen. If your defence isnt terrible however it is one of the most effective tactics out there. The reason the Boks are still world champions.
How I miss Habana and Kevin Peterson on the wing. Love mampimpi and kolbe but they have nothing on those 2
