You can get that inner 10mm carb bolt with a long 1/4 drive extension and 10 mm socket from the front of the motor, no need to take the recoil off, or cam cover off.
Look up a parts manual on line and compare what parts are different between a 15 and 20 hp, on my model the carb was the only different component, but you need to check things like the ignition module etc. to see there are no other differences.
Hey Guys...Is it possible for me to modify my Tohatsu 20hp to a higher speed such as a 30 or 40? It's an electric start on a pontoon. Year is 2021 EFI 20Hp. Any recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks
Not really sure to be honest. But it does work on the the 15 to 20hp upgrade. You can always look up the parts for each and see if the parts would line up.
@@scalenationrc I just bought a 15hp tohatsu waiting for it to show up. Before the upgrade about what kind of speed where you getting. I have a 14ft aluminum boat it’s going on. I’ll probably end up posting a video after the break in

My experience doing the same swap was about the same, the extra HP isn't dramatic but holeshot and top speed are better about 3 mph on my boat, with no negatives in terms of low speed running and fuel consumption, other than obviously you will use more at full throttle because you are getting more power.
@@wildmanstew5736 I have a deep V and beamy 14 ft Polarkraft, which takes some pushing along compared to the average 14 ft "tinny" the 15hp struggled more than I expected it to, the conversion to 20hp while not dramatic certainly made a big difference with a better holeshot and may be 3 mph on top speed. I'm boating at altitude over 6,000 feet normally so I'd imagine a 15hp closer to sea level would push a 14 ft aluminum boat very nicely.
I saw your previous answer, I'm from Brazil and a used one appeared to buy but I also can't find a replacement part so I'm not going to buy it, I'm going to get a 2-stroke
Hi guys! is it an oem carb and what's the result on the water ? Have you considered changing only some part of the carb instead of the whole thing ? Cheers!
Yes it’s an oem carburetor. We did consider just changing the jets but I’m pretty sure it is a different part number with bigger passages in the casting for flow as well.
The OEM carburetor is cast with a huge restriction to the bore of the intake. It also uses different fuel circuits in the carburetor in terms of where the fuel path is and at least one of the jets is in a different place, so you cannot achieve the change by swapping just the jets, even though internals allow for the necessary parts to be installed. I don't know if the restricted bore could be machined out, but by the time you've replaced the internal parts needed to have the carb work like a 20hp one, it would make no sense financially. My outboard is a 15hp Mercury, the one built by Tohatsu, but I found a new carb from Tohatsu was about half the price Mercury wants for the exact same thing and then I got one a little cheaper from eBay. I then sold my Mercury15hp carb on eBay for a good price based on the perceived value given they were listed at $400, or so, from Mercury. The whole thing cost me about $60, another 5hp and a brand new carburetor for not much more than a carb rebuild kit was a great deal.
@@scalenationrc The carburetor is cast with a restricted diameter to the air passageway. Then the use the internal passageways differently in terms of where the main and idle jets are located. So if you wanted to use the original carb you'd need a load of parts to locate the correct jets in the appropriate locations and then have to bore the carb intake out to remove the restriction. Buying the right OEM carb and selling the original is really the only viable option.
That's interesting how your saying that the internals are different on the 20hp carb. I have a 2012 Merc (same motor) 15hp and when I look up the parts between the 15 and 20 it has the identical breakdown/ part numbers. So I'm not sure what the difference is between the two??

Yeah we figured that out later! Thanks for the tip!
where's the next video showing you testing it out on water?
There won’t be one ended up selling it after we made this unfortunately. Went to a 25hp.
Hello required gasoline feeder or carburetor Tohatsu Fuastrok 20 same engine HD
No need
I had to take my carburetor off my engine while hanging off the back of my sailboat... I envy you being in the garage 🤣🤣
Been there a few times ourselves! Definitely easier in the garage.
Awesome boys
I have a 2002 18hp 4stroke can I do the same swap to 20hp?
Not sure tbh.
I have a 2006 15hp tohatsu that looks just like that. Doable?
Not sure but maybe?
Where did you get the carb upgrade from?
Ready set boat I'm pretty sure.
Motor on video year?
I think it was 2013 or 2015 not sure.
How many cc is this motor ? I have 2020 15hp merc 4stroke 333cc .Would I be able to do the same mod?
Not sure on the cc. It’s a 15hp though. May be possible with your engine as well just depends on the model.

Not that we know of without doing some serious modification.
I have 2022 efi 15 hp tohatsu. how can i upgrade mines to a 20 hp What part do i need to order.
Ready set boat has a package, should be the first or second one on Google

where can i buy the same carburetor?
Ready set boat is where we got this one.
Should do an after video to see the difference you said you where getting about 23mph with the 15 carb
We were going to but ended up finding a deal on a 25hp and sold this motor. Ended up gaining 3-4mph but had a stronger hole shot.
