  • In the last install video of this series, we replace the stock intake plenum with the Weldspeed cast aluminium intake plenum on the G16E-GTS in Daz's Toyota GR Yaris Rallye.
    Weldspeed's G16E-GTS Intake Manifold represents their attempt at a clean-slate design with the sole aim of improving upon the OEM Intake Manifold in as many ways as possible. They are able to achieve this with increased plenum volume & optimised runner geometry for midrange torque output and improved Volumetric Efficiency at higher engine speeds.

    Probably one of the best mods I’ve done to my GRY with a stock ecu
    Pulls like an Absolute freight train from 4k to the redline

    • @denstoj

      Did you tune it with ECUTEK after installing?

      @@denstoj nope its still running the stock map untuned.
      Hasn’t missed a beat or thrown a light or anything

      @mercywing2 awesome, good to hear. Yeah shouldn’t throw any codes as it runs all the stock sensors.

      Always wondered if you could do this stock tune. Might have to add to my basket 😅

      🙌 sounds good. Just noting that Weldspeed product description does say: “NOTE: As always, any changes to your intake tract should be monitored by a tuner for safe operation and maximum performance gains.”

    Keen to see how you go tuning a fairly heavily modified example with ecutek. Hasnt really been done much and certainly has its advantages to going a motec

    • @denstoj
      @denstoj  25 дней назад +1

      Yeah, for sure! It hasn't been simple. Ben from Benchmark Solutions is currently working on it. He mentioned it would have been done overnight on Motec or Syvecs. Will put up a video once it's done.

    Really enjoying the series guys. Great to see a father and son having fun whilst working on your mate's car. Daryl's going to have a ripper of a machine when he gets it back. Not much more he could do apart from pulling the interior out and sticking a cage in and going the whole hog with the gearbox. What's he planning on doing with the car?

    • @denstoj
      @denstoj  Месяц назад

      Glad you're enjoying it. Yeah it is awesome hey. Very appreciate for the relationship we have, the products we've developed together using both our mechanic and mechanical engineering skills. Also grateful to work on such a sick GRY. As for plans, pretty sure he'll keep it as a street car but setup for the couple of track days he days a year. He wants to get the most out of it without having to go down the MoTeC route. As time progresses more opportunities will open up on the factory ECU. No sequential due to the cost, not sure what he has/planning to do with the clutch especially for the track days. Stay tuned for more updates! Have you got a GRY yourself?

    I am also interested for the weldspeed intake manifold, but i am reading conflicting reviews in GR Yaris forums. Many claim torque improvement low down rev range and off boost, but at full boost and above 4000rpm (where in the oem airbox the lower 2nd flap opens) not much improvement. Since you car is not tunned yet, please give us more details how the intake affects performance at low and high rpm. Many Thanks !!

      Thanks for your detailed comment! Since we’ve added several mods at once, we unfortunately can’t provide a back-to-back comparison for just the Weldspeed intake plenum. However, @mercywing2 in the comments below might have more specific insights. I’m also curious about how it performs across the rev range. 🤔He has mentioned it pulls like a freight train from 4k to redline. Once we get more time with the setup, I’ll share what I can regarding both low and high RPMs but it will be with all the mods. Stay tuned!

      @@denstoj Thank you !! Also weldspeed avoids publishing any dyno graphs or number claims, it just says generally thay improves power/torque and that torque comes earlier in the rev range. I sucpect that pic dyno numbers are the same, but power/torque curves are different - power/torque pic comes earlier in rev range which is good.

      220kw at the wheels but the tune is still being worked on. It’s not a big rush for the customer so Ben from Benchmark is working on it when he has time.
