I love alternative lego brands. Most challenging for me is jm bricklayer. So ill always get a second set to work on, while im building jm bricklayer, in case i hit a snag 😊
So now that I have watched the whole video, I want to bring up an issue I have with this, an issue I had from the instant I saw the thumbnail on patreon. While I do not approve of knockoff sets/companies, I have accepted that it's a part of the ecosystem now. And generally I will not say anything when they blatantly copy an official Lego set. It's what these companies do and thrive on. However I find myself torn on this particular set to the point I feel the need to speak up, if only to bring awareness. The set Funwhole used as the basis if not majority of the design, is not your standard Lego set. It was part of a program Bricklink ran with assistance from Lego, where fan designers could submit a set design. However unlike IDEAS, this program relied on people putting their money where their mouth is, as a minimum of 3000 pre-orders had to be accomplished before the set could even go into "production" which in turn from the moment of preorder to the set being shipped is about a year long process. On top of that the actual designer got 5% royalties from every sale. So the original designer made a minimum $20,000 likely more as that was just for the base 3000 requirement. Initial set was 150. So to me I see this as Funwhole directly taking money out of a creator's pocket. On top of that they likely didn't even get the creators permission to use their design as the basis for their own. However I mentioned I was torn because a stipulation of the program, called the Bricklink Designer Program, is that while 3000 pre-orders were the minimum needed, there was also a maximum of 20000 accepted. So this means there was a limited run of the set, with very limited quantities. This Funwhole is technically providing those who either were not able to afford the set at the time or were simple unable to place an order within the limited time a chance to own a "version" of the set. I'm sorry for the lengthy comment, I simply wanted to bring awareness to this as it was definitely something that was weighing on me from the moment I saw the email notifying me of a new video on patreon. Ultimately not trying to "police" or "dictate" what you build or buy, simply wishing to bring attention. Also forgot to mention the original set number and name if you wanted to look further into it. Set Name: Wild West Saloon Set Number: BL19004-1
I 100% see both sides you are pointing out. I will say that I do not like the companies that make a brick for brick knock off ( like Lupin I think it's called) Though I was not aware of the Lego wild west saloon ( and I totally believe that the designer at funwhole took inspiration from original) I'm ok with the differences that the 2 builds have. as much as I think the builds in the brinklink designer program are great looking and a awesome way to get new builds out there, it feels like they are deigned for collectors in mind and that always drives me crazy. Thanks for the heads up and I will try to be more vigilant about what 3rd party sets I do in the future.
@@TheModii101oh yeah, they definitely were targeted towards collectors and resellers, albeit likely unintentional. Heck I've only managed to get one and it was the clockwork aquarium. But yeah that limited availability is about the only reason I am not completely against this. And as you mentioned Funwhole doesn't seem to do a brick for brick remake like Lepin, and the included light features definitely gives them some bonus points. You may have mentioned it in prior videos but how are the quality of the bricks?
I just picked this up and appreciate the thorough showcase and review!

Heck, who needs to go to Disney World when you can build your own. 😂

They feel real good. Unless I'm thinking about it I don't even notice that its not Lego.@@voxumo
