  • Michigan State Parks are an affordable option when camping in Michigan. Wanting to explore Traverse City and the surrounding area, Traverse City State just made sense.
Michigan State parks are normally affordable and nice. This state park seemed to be pretty crowded with a lot of inconveniences nearby. We didn't let that stop us though. Traverse City State Campground is also centrally located to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore, Traverse City State Hospital, Leland Michigan, The Grand Traverse Lighthouse, and Michigans National Cherry Festival. Thanks for watching, hope you find this video helpful.

We always say that it is not a campground unless it has road noise, an airport, and trains running during the night...lol. Glad that you found all the fun things to do!

PRO TIP: If you're intending to camp at TC State Park for it's "central" location, go a half-hour southwest on M-137 to Interlochen State Park instead. Cheaper, quieter, and less crowded (usually).

Traverse City State Park was built when campers were smaller and tents were more common.
When kids love a campground there are no downsides, and kids love this campground.
Be like the kids and love it for what it is...

I live near Sleepy Hollow State park here in Michigan. I love that one. Give it a try if you like biking and hiking. There is over 20 miles of trails. I stayed in Traverse City for my brother's birthday but didn't enjoy the park. It was not horrible but I like the area.

Certainly the roads and sites are small. These Big campers are from the last 10 years and the park was established in 1921. The state has better funding for the state parks but they cannot update every park at the same time. There is construction going on in many State parks but this was not on the list for this year. And the cons they talk about, When I was young this park was way outside of town. Now the Town has grown up around it. Not much you can do about that. They are right this is a more park inside of an urban location. Simply choose something else if that is not your cup of tea. Interlochen State Park only a few miles away is very good and a lot let noisy.

Yeah even when I was a kid that park has been that packed. Would never camp there again because of the road noise and in the city . That really isn't camping. Unless you're a fudgie. And want the tart trail . Much better camping else where within reach of the fun stuff to do.

I live just the next town over and I cant stand Traverse City in general. Too busy for my liking plus other stuff. The state park is not placed in a convenient area. Its a city. It should not have a campground. There is an RV camp in Lake Leelanau(closer to wear my house is), and I have heard it is much better than the TC park.
