    Nice fix, 👍👍. I make it a point to run my Honda genset once a month, letting the fuel run out and also draining the carb with the drain plug just to be sure it’s dry. I use a stabilizer called K100 which i find works great, it removes any water in the fuel. I use this stabilizer in all my equipment and never had an
    issue. Thanks for the vid! Stay safe.

    With my propane generator I just remove the tank and store it as empty. My gas generator I am still trying to make it run consistently. I had it running really good for a bout 5 minutes then it just quit as if it was out of gas. Removed carb again and see no blockages. I am thinking I have a bad low oil level sensor but I think I still have spark. Gonna have to revisit this once again. Your fix was perfect. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

    My 8750 Predator generator has a 5 gallon tank. It is stored full with 93 octane premium gas with 10 gallons on stand by. It gets started every few months and let to run for 15 minutes under load. Carburetor is always run dry when finished. It's a strange site at night when everything is dark with no electricity and your house is lit up and looks like nothing happened. The money saved in frozen food almost covered the cost of the generator. Here is a tip, wire it into to your breaker box.

      I love that stuff. I've bought several used generators, cleaned the carbs, and resold them. Along the way, I've wished for a small hole in the air filter box, behind the filter, so I could directly spray in ether, aka "cheater spray". But I don't want to do that to a generator I'd sell. And for my own, I'd rather take good care and never need ether.

    I was recently given one that essentially looks the same as this, the spring around the throttle to choke arm is broken, any idea what it’s called or where I might get a replacement? It’s surging like yours was with the fuel off so maybe I have fuel delivery issue somewhere, and at first startup it produces only 50v, after 10 minutes of running it starts to jump around and eventually gets to about 230.

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  2 года назад

      do you mean the spring that can be seen at 4:25? if so that's the return spring for the throttle lever. If yours is surging you need to clear the pilot jet, and if you don't want to do that, A replacement carb is very affordable.

    "Spark tester". Isn't that a misnomer? Doesn't it 'just' test the ignition system up to but not including the spark plug? If you have a defective spark plug wouldn't this give a false positive? Asking because I'm wondering if the primitive method of laying the plug on the engine would show you the actual spark (in dim light)? Thanks!

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  3 года назад

      The spark tester is a misnomer is it only tests if the ignition module is working. And no, laying the spark plug on the engine doesn't test whether or not the plug will work while its under pressure. So I would just replace the plug anyway if theres any doubt after testing for a working ignition system.

    I have a dewalt portable generator. It has 275 hours on it. It starts with one pill but shuts off after about 30 mins of use. This just started at about 265 hours. I use 93 gas. I’m a truck driver and I use it to power my mini split AC/Heater. Also to run my microwave and tv. I NEVER have both the AC & microwave going at the same time. And yes the generator is producing enough power to run the AC. It was working just fine last week. Any help is MUCH appreciated. I’ve cleaned the spark resistor thing several times. The spark plug looks good. I drained the fuel chamber on the carburetor.

      just for my information, have you checked to Oil to make sure it's not low? after that, I believe you have a fuel flow issue. This can be from a combination of things, such as a gas cap that's not venting enough air, a fuel line that beginning to swell, and causing reduced fuel flow, and the last, it could be a needle seat that's also swelling and causing less fuel to flow to the carb.

      no, because you'll loose some fuel, as the engine is running and that would be quite messy.

    3 words "Inline Fuel filters "

  • @97warlock
    @97warlock Год назад

    1 VERY important factor to consider. ........ I cant name not even one Generator ,1400.00 price range or less that has an inline fuel fiilter. And I believe, its because they dont want it to last years & years reliably. Almost every generator , the first issue that will arise is having to do with the carb. most will just sell it off or deal with the issue by rebilding it or replacing the carb. But overall usually the first issue and often Only issue will be the carb is acting up due to debrees and buildup.
    They know this, but ya dont see an inline fuel filter on them.

    If he was a good small engine serviceman, he would have cleaned the whole carb., before putting it back together. What was shown was the high speed jet being un-clogged, and if it's clogged there's a good 50% chance the small jet is clogged as well, as well as the fuel tunes, the fuel flows through inside the carb. It's best to clean all parts and tunnels in a carb, before putting the carb together, and back on the engine. Had I done the servicing, I would have started mainly with the carb., before checking the spark plug, but a small shot of starting fluid, and a few turn overs, would have told me whether engine had spark or not, without buying a spark plug checker, and added extra work getting the plug out. If engine fired up with that shot of starting fluid, you know it's a carb. issue, not electrical. Would have saved time, in getting to root cause of issue of not running. 90% of engine not starting, or running poorly problems is carburetor issues. The engine surging (revving up and down), is caused by a dirty low speed jet. Problem is, he failed to clean the whole carb., the first time round, which he should have done. Like I said, if you take a carb apart, clean the whole thing, and clean it well, before putting it back together, and mounting it to engine.

    chances are some1 just shut off engine w switch, not thinking gas is still in carb and after
    a few months, the jets and orifices in carb get clogged bigtime+ running in a possible
    dusty area can make it run rich due to less air to engine. If not run for some time, the
    residual field can be lost and can't build up voltage, then u flash the rotor (field) with a car
    battery or lawn tractor or bike battery. push button circuit breakers do go bad.
