Season the chicken thigh with salt and pepper on both sides. Pat dry the chicken with a paper towel and coat the chicken with corn starch on both sides. Shake off any excess corn starch before pan-frying. In a pan, add oil and turn the heat to medium-high. Once the pan is hot, add in the chicken thigh skin side facing down. Pan fry for 7 minutes, skin side facing down, flip, and cook for another 5 minutes. Remove the chicken and set it aside. Mix soy sauce, minced garlic, five-spice powder, and honey in a bowl. Drizzle the sauce into the same pan that the chicken was cooked and simmer for 1 minute. Add back in the chicken and cook the chicken on high heat while drizzling the sauce all over the chicken for 1 minute.
Salt can draw out water when seasoning. That's why with a lot of veggie dishes with cucumber, zucchini ect, they will salt them, let them sit for a bit, and there will be a good amount of water drawn from the veggies

Well if you are trying to eat healthy you can eat normal white rice too (if you are trying to be healthy but if it's a personal opinion no problem) but you can eat rice with fibres (lettuce) it will have the same effect

@linda. I used to sell Bob’s Red Mill potato starch at the health food store that I worked. I never cooked with it so I cannot give you details. Hope that helps.

It may be marketed as 'potato flour' though the 'flour' version includes more of the spud. Not just the starch. If you're familiar with using a search engine such as google, you'll find it easily.

We love this recipe with chicken legs, and baked in the oven without the corn starch. I just marinate the chicken in the sauce, and bake it at 350 for about 30 to 45 minutes, turning the broiler on towards the end to crisp up the skin. My family devours it.
Recipe : -Salt and pepper on skin-on chicken thigh both sides - pat it dry and cover in cornstarch - fry skin side down for seven minutes, then turn it over and fry again for 5 min - set aside - make the sauce : soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, 5 spice powder (i call it ngohiong in my country), mix it and simmer - add the chicken in the simmering sauce and continue to cook again for 1 min - serve over rice :D

I have been doing same recipe for fishe for a few months now and its the tastiest thing ever! I add a lil splash of vinegar for zestiness and make the glaze a bit more. I remove the fishes from the pan and throw in the already boiled pasta to the glaze as a sauce. It's perfect! I will def try with chicken too!

Make sure you brown on very high heat, that'll leave room to cook it slowly all the way through afterwards and leave it tender. Yummy yummy.
