The brake pedal makes perfect sense. When you have regen set to minimum, the pedals up, so as you press it down further it increases regen (in proportion to how hard you press down). So when regen is set to full, its already depressed all they way just before it starts engaging the brake pads on the disks. Meaning all 'braking' to a creep is done by regen, no matter where you set it. Stopping is achieved by then pushing down harder to start engaging the brake pads
"He didn't even thank me...!" Oh Nicola - I am SOOOOooooooo on your side with that...! The lack of courtesy with some drivers (actually, MOST drivers... 😠) nowadays is absolutely disgraceful. A simple wave costs nothing but means everything. Well done for keeping your composure, too - I think I'd have uttered a few bleeped-out expletives...!! 😉
I've had my Iconic in White with Black roof for 7weeks now. I've driven it on long journeys, and when driven carefully on Eco, I get between 280-302 miles range (although don't go above 57-59mph😉). What really helps is that, unlike almost every other EV, the Megane doesn't affect it's range when the blowers/heaters are on, as the power doesn't come out of the EV batteries. It comes out of the car's normal 12v battery (like it does on a ICE car). Only the AC does. But don't forget, the Megane is one of the lightest EV's on sale (lighter than a Zoe). Helped by aluminum and Carbon Fibre construction. Only the Mini and Fiat 500 are lighter. Plus don't care anout rear visability. It has a wide-angle rear view mirror camera....Brilliant!! Plus Google is fantastic! You cannot beat phone tech! It's the most up-to-date around, constantly updated.
Nicola, the problem with having the charging point like the Zoe, is that a bit of a bump head on and you can’t charge your car!😢 Enjoyed the review as always. 😊
I have an MG4. It is a disaster. Horrible software, bad support, annoying tech, and absolute lies in the options (I know the difference between auto wipers and intermittent wipers). So many things have gone wrong and I am returning it and getting a Megane.
Out of curiosity what's gone wrong with it so far ! Reason I'm asking is just were looking into to a EV at the moment so any feedback and advice is welcome.
I tried out the MG4 back during the winter when I was looking for an EV myself. It definately is cheap compared to others but it seems you also get nothing in return. It is a car, it drives, it goes whoosh quickly and thats it. Sitting inside it I felt like I was sitting at a doctors office looking at a sterile wall. To be noted, I was at the time driving the Megane (not my own) and by comparison the Megane is leaps and bounds ahead with lots of gadgets and knobs to push in the interior, while for the drive itself they are comparable. The only thing about the MG4 that really made me go wow was the turn rate, that thing can turn on a dime.
Quite an excellent review. But again it is the elephant in the room...the MG4. Not the current Trophy model MG4, but the 400 HP all wheel drive sports model coming out this year......But then again, the answer to that baby is the Renault 5 relaunch as an EV....could get a tad interesting... I had the Megane E-Tech for a few hours and it was brilliant. Renault are killing it with design and build quality. Teh suspension was smooth over speed bumps and potholes and it is quite quick. I thought it would be my next car. Until I stepped back in to my current car, I then realised the Megane is a normal, low car. It is not an SUV and I do like to sit quite high.
A wonderful review by a superb motoring journalist who has taken all the essence of a car, and distilled it into what makes it great! Well done. I've ordered a top-spec Uk Iconic (with that essential heat pump). It was a straight choice between the Renault and the Tesla Model 3 (forget the id3/MG4......no contest! The 'sterile', boring and poorly made Tesla is now looking so dated, and the tech is so 'yesterday'. And on the 0-60 time.......the claim of 7.5 seconds, is actually 6.9 (the same as a Mini Cooper S)......how typically French, downplaying it. Unlike the over-exaggerating Italians 😂 . A brilliant touch going to the experts for the tech, Google, constantly updated.......well done Renault!
So I guess when we draw up to a car in front that is turning left onto an empty road but stays at a standstill for ages there may be a chance it's Nicola enjoying the indicator sounds. The regen braking sounds odd, take your foot off the sparks and it slows to a creep, what if there are no creeps around? You could go miles out of your way. Joking aside I like this car, the proper climate controls at last, good on you Renault. The point about the MG is valid though. My car was at the dealers for a service yesterday and while I waited I had a wander around an Enyaq, I got in the front and right away you could feel the higher floor, even more so in the rear seats so the SUV style makes total sense as you mention Nicola. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve had my ID.3 for 15 months now and have never, not even once, had any issues with the infotainment screen! It respondes immediately and even though I’ve heard so many people complain about the volume/heater slider switch, I’ve never used it! The voice command works every time, but I don’t use that very often. Why? Because the volume control button is on the steering wheel and the temperature, heated seat and heated steering wheel control is on the Home Screen so easily accessible.
Nice car....not something i thought i wouold saying about about a Renault. Liking Nicola presenting too. Really Liking her upbeat style and cheeky way.
Hm you think there won't be a 4wd version with sport written on it? Because if you had a 2.0l Clio that only took premium range clearly wasn't your priority already
word to the wise... having your charge point on your car at the front can be beneficial unless you have a front shunt - then you may not be able to charge your vehicle or you're the kind of person who likes to reverse into car park spaces.
Yes Nicola but the MG-4e info-entertainment system is rubbish and came out of the Ark and in my opinion wants to go back there again, as its so fiddly to get to work as most drivers would agree. So expensive Renault Megane but maybe somewhat better suited to older drivers?
It's so sad that Renault doesn't have a proper replacement for my Talisman Grandtour. The lease is ending and I have to go Tesla Model Y because the Megane is too small for a family of four and the Skoda Eniaq is just not available.
Again stop being impressed by Chinese EV prices. For once and all, Chinese products are not produced to market prices. Nothing in China is approved unless the CCP says so and the labor costs are artificially kept low by buying up the dollar. According to economics (and economic development), China's labor force should by now be too expensive ...
i think you'll find that a lot of prices around the world are not true production cost prices...try food and the subsidies, try oil and the subsidies...
Thats cute, but why would and does customer care? (and therefore the reviewers too) No. The end price is lower, thats all that maters to the customer if everything else is equal or close enough.
Current have a top spec Austral Hybrid and thoroughly enjoy driving it. Only downside is the automatic gearbox. Definitely considering the Mégane e-tech when we're due to renew. Great looking car.
Loved your short yet comprehensive review. The only thing that bugs me with this car is that probably due to the semiconductors shortage they do not offer a HUD (the prototype I had seen at the Geneva auto salon had one). For me a shot stopper which is also why I will never buy a Tesla.
Nice looking car but I agree the biggest problem it has is its price & the MG4. I'm seriously considering an MG4 as a 2nd car to replace an SUV or my estate car.
... having paid 700 quid last year to get my 2016 Zoe's suspension ball and arm totally replaced because it collapsed... I feel called out by this comment haha! I thought it was the weight of the car plus my very pothole ridden commute. Didn't know it was a "feature" of Renaults... On the bright side I hear this Megane is lighter than a Zoe despite being larger so maybe that will help the suspension...
@@GeorgeThoughts i have owned a Clio before the Zoe and it was the same issue having spent many hundreds and even thousands on suspension components. Seems to be due to the cheap thinner metal and poor quality rubber used. I'm currently forking out a couple of thousand to get the suspension fixed on my Zoe as we speak 😭. It's one of the major reasons putting me off buying another Renault. Twice bitten, thrice shy in my case. ☹️
@@taqveem here's the problem though, I saw a thread on Reddit asking "Which is the worst car brand?" I live in France and have ordered a Tesla Y at E48000 which is cheaper than all of its rivals.. The Ariya (your Car of the Year) is far too expensive and not very efficient. The Ariya and Renault charge ports are in the wrong place and cannot easily take advantage of Tesla opening up its superchargers in France. Still no auto /smart regen like the ioniq 5. Still crappy fabric seats for UK unlike the leather seats they get for euro models. But they finally added the big infotainment screen MY25 after saying for over 2 years it could not be done on the UK models.
