he's like one of the most different directors presently. love his craft and filmmaking, tbh, requiem for a dream and black swan were the two movies that changed my entire perception about filmmaking, like you can make movies in that way too! totally a genius. thank you darren for existing ❤️
I feel like he's one of the few contemporary directors working today genuinely pushing the medium into more personal and bleaker territory. It's no wonder he's considered one of the most controversial filmmakers currently alive.
The Fountain is the ultimate, the best and the most wonderful film for me. From the first moment in cinema fourteen years ago I am deeply in love. Aronofsky in general is brilliant, combined with Clint Mansell and Matthew Libatique they create pure beauty.
Wes Anderson's been done, Paul Thomas Anderson, Stanley Kubrick. All that's left from this is David Lynch, Andre T, Chris Nolan, Alfred Hitchcock, and BJH.
And he also follows the characters always with handheld camera, the camera is shaky but It gives the audience the feeling that they are one with the character. So intimate.
I love Black Swan, Requiem For A Dream and Pi. Please make a video about directing style of David Lynch, Krzysztof Keslowski and Wes Anderson. Thank you for the videos, are so inspiring.
Thanks for another great video, top stuff. Would be amazing to see Jonathan Glazer profiled despite his slim feature-filmography. Also, Ellen Burstyn's performance in Requiem For A Dream can't be understated. One of the most devastating characters ever put to film. (Fav D.A film is 'mother!' - so many layers with each rewatch).
Darren Aronofsky is One of my Favorite Filmmaker. Now I understand more what makes his Movies so Inspiring. Specially for the Movie The Fountain (2006), with the Music from Clint Mansell Death is the Road to Awe. Thank you StudioBinder.
My favorites are Noah, Requiem for a Dream, and The Fountain, all because of the magic realism. Not to mention, the Noah movie got me to care about creation. I wanna go back to how Darren Aronofsky changed me in 2014.
He is a great modern director but is in some ways "an acquired taste". His visual style is edgy, intense, often surreal. His movies have universal themes, but are not conventional aa they show dark territories of the human experience. Many characters are driven, obsessed, addicted, self-destructive in the end. Black Swan is a great example. His characters stop at nothing in their pursuits, even if it will destroy them. He is a film auteur & bold creative genius!
haven't seen new updates in this directing style playlist,I like this playlist because every lesson shows me a full and complete view in film making from story to sound,in order to become a better director,we should practice in every aspect, and this playlist gives us this wholesome way to analyze it,so please add more directors into this list, maybe some Asian directors, inspirations can come from the whole world
My Favorites Darren Aronofsky Protagonists are Dr. Thomas Creo (Hugh Jackman) and his Wife Isabelle (Rachel Weisz) in The Fountain (2006). And also Max Cohen (Sean Gullette) in PI (1998).
Thanks for the video ! So great to see these directing styles. Maybe up next you could examine the directing style of Krystof Kieszlowzki, Federico Fellini or Michelangelo Antonioni. Even one about Spike Jonze would be cool 😎
Great source of info. I love the Fountain, the music and the theme was what cought me, now I see the whole movie as one of its kind masterpiece. Would love to see similar video about Wong Kar Wai, Hsiao Hsien, Kim Ki Duk, Jean-Piere Jaunet, Emir Kusturica, Andrei Tarkovsky. Many thanks.
The Ram is my favourite because he is knowingly self destructive which makes him even more interesting. The other Aronofsky protagonists seem to be self destructive without realising it.
agreed. Also loved the Wrestler, too. Something about his way of creating self destructive, broken characters. It's not pretty and that's what makes it beautiful. PS: I hated Mother
perfect really, really perfect he is my favorite director of all time and this video is... perfect thank you for this also, David Lynch video is a good idea huh?
He is a truly wonderful director, but his films are very hard to watch a second time. They all have another thing in common that was not mentioned in this video: They are all enormously bleak and end without any hope. Unlike, say, Paul Thomas Anderson who's films are just as complex and dark at times, often seem to provide the characters (and audience) with some, if only faint, sense of hope. And one thing I would call as a flaw in Aronofsky's films: no sense of humor AT ALL. But he is, without question, a great director.
Even though Aronofsky's movies inherit no definite uplifting resolution for the character in the end, I personally sense the fountain as an ode to salvation for all of us. Which is quite hopeful. What I feel is that Aronofsky is a modern, deeply analytical director compared to the "emotional" directors of the 80s e.g. Spielberg which makes him for me more of a realist, but what he still manages is to find the beauty of the moment. This no definite statement, just my personal opinion. Please feel free to disagree. :)

The Fountain is a visual masterpiece
the fountain is apparently underrated although I have no idea what's not to like about that movie..

The Fountain has one of the greatest scores ever composed. It completely lifts the film. It's unforgettable really
he's like one of the most different directors presently. love his craft and filmmaking, tbh, requiem for a dream and black swan were the two movies that changed my entire perception about filmmaking, like you can make movies in that way too! totally a genius. thank you darren for existing ❤️
The Fountain is a work of art. One of my all time favorite movies.
The Fountain is sheer brilliance. The film is an achievement few directors reach
I feel like he's one of the few contemporary directors working today genuinely pushing the medium into more personal and bleaker territory. It's no wonder he's considered one of the most controversial filmmakers currently alive.
I truly think that Black Swan is a perfect movie.
The Fountain is the ultimate, the best and the most wonderful film for me. From the first moment in cinema fourteen years ago I am deeply in love.

Can you do David Lynch, Wes Anderson, Paul Thomas Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Andre T, Christopher Nolan, Alfred Hitchcock, and Bong Jong Ho, please?
They already made a lot of those. Search in their channel
Wes Anderson's been done, Paul Thomas Anderson, Stanley Kubrick. All that's left from this is David Lynch, Andre T, Chris Nolan, Alfred Hitchcock, and BJH.

He keeps pumping them out. Hope he never stops. Every single one of his movies are in my list of favourites. He’s a master and this is a great upload.
You see what the character sees and hear what he feels. YESS, amazing
And he also follows the characters always with handheld camera, the camera is shaky but It gives the audience the feeling that they are one with the character. So intimate.

Pure gold. For me, best of the StudioBinder Directors Series (all outstanding) so far. Took copious notes and will watch again and again.
My favorites are Noah, Requiem for a Dream, and The Fountain, all because of the magic realism. Not to mention, the Noah movie got me to care about creation. I wanna go back to how Darren Aronofsky changed me in 2014.

a beautiful film
Thank you very much for this Brilliant Amazing Anatomy of Darren Aronofsky Filmmaking. Brief, Specific, Authentic, Profound and Deeper.
You're very welcome!
Such an amazing director. But one thing I have to say is his brutal honesty knows no measures.
I noticed that one of the musical pieces from Beyond the Black Rainbow was used. The soundtrack for that movie is amazing.
I wish you explain about Michael haneke.
best filmmaking guides by far! thank you for the work
I suggestTerrence malik and Tarkovsky dir style... ✨
Great choices!
My Favorites Darren Aronofsky Protagonists are Dr. Thomas Creo (Hugh Jackman) and his Wife Isabelle (Rachel Weisz) in The Fountain (2006). And also Max Cohen (Sean Gullette) in PI (1998).
This StudioBinder video, itself an art.
Fantastic director with a stellar crew.
Great director!

He's on our mind!

Unpopular opinion, but The Fountain is my favorite Aronofsky film
nice choice!
I believe it's his best achievement. A masterpiece.
I remember watching it when I was in high school and it was beautiful. I didn’t know who aronofsky was back then but I knew it was a great film
Beautiful movie!! My favourite too
agreed. Also loved the Wrestler, too. Something about his way of creating self destructive, broken characters. It's not pretty and that's what makes it beautiful. PS: I hated Mother
Your videos are amazing, I will share with all my friends!

Do one about Peter Greenaway, one of the best and one of the last cinematic directors living today.
One of the masters of cinema..🙏

The Fountain is by far his best. Other than the performances in The Wrester, The Fountain is the only Aranofsky content I would recommend to anyone.
Good content!

Please do Spike Lee and if you go for international directors please do also Ang lee, Bong Joon Ho, Akira Kurosawa
Great ideas!
Please do one on Roman Polansky -- maestro to the likes of Aronofsky and Villeneuve.
Also, have you done the Coen brothers?
Mickey Rourke owes his career comeback to Aronofsky's film The Wrestler.

interesting point; I dont think anybody has ever accused Aronofsky of being a feel-good director 😂
