Small bell-shaped white flowers that bloomed in spring have turned into sweet and sour blueberries.
Blueberries taste good, but are also said to be good for health.
Today, I germinated the seeds of this attractive berry.
Although blueberries are mainly propagated from cuttings, how about starting with seeds?

Once they sprout, no need to cover them with a lid as that could cause issues, just keep them somewhere warm for a few months to a year depending when you sprout them, I keep them inside on a north facing window out of direct sunlight.

Even in Korea, which is at a similar latitude to Italy, blueberries grow well, so your blueberries will be able to grow luxuriantly.

Blueberries dont necessarily need a freezing cold winter, that's what southern Highbush is for, people grow them in Texas, even the blueberries I ate this morning came from Peru
The desire of having a blueberry plant is what got me into serious gardening. Blueberries are not native to India, so the only way was to buy imported berries from store and grow from seed. I did the additional step of cold stratification, but now I think I could have skipped that since the seeds were fresh. I was able to get them to germinate and grow till they were an inch tall. In the meanwhile, I realised that the whole experiment is going to be futile as the climate in my area will never be conducive for their growth, flowering and fruiting. The seedlings were a pain to take care of and were very slow growing until they all died.
Bought imported mature blueberry plants a few more times just to kill them everytime. I am over them now. 😅😄

I am very sorry to hear that you cannot grow blueberries in India :(
As you said, there are probably limits to growing blueberries in India because there is no winter (low temperature period).
Even if blueberries cannot be grown in India, I hope that blueberries grown in other countries will always be available in India with good quality.

experienced the same thing..my seedlings never germinated but still looking for ways to grow blueberry plan.
@@ritikathakur7538 There are some sellers from the Northeastern states who sell blueberry plants. But you need to be in the cooler regions (Himachal, J&K, etc) to grow them well.

Lol I know what ya mean. I am the opposite though. I too have tried to grow subtropical and even tropical plants in a temperate region lol. Far too cold where I live for mangos and bananas etc. I have managed to grow avocados though but they have to be babies and protected from frosts. I have them in pots atm under a big tree for frost protection.
But yeah at least I can grow apples, pears, stone fruits, berries etc. So I will stick with what I know will grow good in my area from now on lol otherwise we just wasting time abs money in most cases. But hey if we don’t try it will never happen. Maybe one day if we keep trying they will adapt to their new climates. Like we may get lucky with a seedling and it may have evolved to change to hack the new weather.
Where do we put the seeds after planting them in a warm or cold place
How many time shoud i water from day 1? And should i leave it to the sunlight or not?

Just planted some blueberries into a starter with some peat moss and miracle grow. Theres some tiny sprouts but it could be weeds considering it looks really thin on the stem except maybe 1-2 that recently popped up. I have other seeds germinating in a cup of water and 3 just sprouted. Another I left in the fridge with the paper towel method and took them out to place by somewhere warm atm. This took about a month and so far it seems the water method works best for me besides a lychee seedling that I tossed into some soil with my slowly sprouting avocado seed that is already growing. Sadly it will not grow true to seed but well see 10 years later lol if it even lasts that long.

My boyfriend bought blueberry seeds, should we soak them first or do cold stratification? or will this method work?
I got some blueberries from the market, planted the seeds (from 10 of the biggest blueberries I selected) 5 days ago in a small plastic food container with low pH soil. I keep the lid on to maintain humidity. Fingers cross for some results.
Update (after 2-3 weeks):
From the seeds of 10 blueberries, one sprout emerged (at least I hope it's a blueberry) Yay!
I'll be trying seeds in different ways to see which is best.
1. Leave berries in refrigerator for a week before doing what the video showed since other videos and sites say blueberries need cold stratification.
2. Use some berries seeds of both non stratification and stratification placed into a baggie with a damp paper towel to see what they do.
3. Use non stratification and stratification blueberries cut in half and plant in soil that blueberries require with and without a cover.
4. Use blueberries that have dried out naturally. After dried out place some into the fridge for a week and some not and plant them covered and not covered.
Lots of experiments to try out. 😊

I experimented too here in tropical Philippines.at 300 mts altitude.0ut of 30 germinated seeds only 2 thrived and grew.they are just 8 months 4 inches height.the stem become dark and each node developed root.i planted 3 stem and they survived.temp.here is mild warm.around 20C in the morning and around 27C at noon.the 2 seedlings are not identical.one has round leaves the other has pointed leaves.one has mist green color and the other has green yellow leaves.

There are no holes in the container in which the blueberry seeds are sown.
However, the seam between the cap and the container is not completely sealed.
The containers I've been using can be sealed to a level that requires additional hydration after about 2-3 months or more.
Therefore, when I plant seeds in this type of container, I water them once every 2-3 months.
And the amount of oxygen consumed by plants is smaller than expected.
The oxygen consumption of seeds that have started to germinate is low, and plants that have started photosynthesis can survive for a long time in a confined atmosphere in a confined environment if light is provided.

I omitted the process in the video, but I cold-treated the seeds.
Occasionally, seeds that are not cold-treated will germinate, but it is known that cold-treatment has a positive effect on the high germination rate.

In this video, I confirmed that the seeds germinated 30 days after sowing.
They were transplanted into soil containing peat moss.
The soil containing peat moss is a product made for blueberries and has a relatively acidic pH rather than a neutral pH.

블루베리의 씨앗이 광발아 종자인지 암발아 종자인지 혹은 빛의 유무가 발아에 상관없는 지 정보를 찾아볼 수 없었습니다.
다만, 배양토 위에 씨앗을 흩뿌리고 투명한 덮개를 덮은 뒤 실내에 방치하였습니다.
보통, 미세종자들은 광발아 종자의 특성을 갖는 경우가 많기에, 일부러 어두운 곳에 두실 필요는 없어 보입니다.
그리고, 약간의 빛만 제공되더라도 광발아 종자는 무던히 발아하기에, 일부러 직사광선 혹은 인공광원을 제공하지 않아도 됩니다.

If the blueberries you are testing were air-dried (at room temperature), the seeds will germinate.
However, if the berries were artificially dried at high temperatures in a dryer, the seeds would have lost their life.

As far as I know, low-temperature conditions (temperature conditions mimicking winter) are required for a certain period of time for the flower buds of blueberries to differentiate.
Also, it is known that low-temperature conditions over a certain period are required for blueberry seeds to germinate.
Therefore, it is considered that it is difficult to harvest blueberries in most of India, which has a tropical climate.
The plastic container I used to grow blueberries does not have a perfect function to seal inside, but it can retain moisture for more than 6-7 months.
So I did not water the blueberries additionally for the entire duration of the video shoot.

@@ritikathakur7538 It's not impossible to provide the proper temperature through the air conditioner.
However, considering the cost of that method, it is not a very good method.
Moreover, even with the use of air conditioning, the result will be coarse.
Furthermore, blocking sunlight to control the temperature is not a good idea.

First of all, I have never filmed a scene where berries are planted in the soil.
Seeds were collected from the berries, and they were scattered over the soil.
Even when berries are planted in soil, the seeds in the berries can sprout.
Just don't plant it too deep.
Blueberry seeds and sprouts are very fragile.
Most of the individuals will probably die early, and very few will survive.

I think it was a fruit that was dried naturally rather than dried at high temperatures.
If high-temperature dried blueberry seeds sprout, it seems like a miracle.

If you have a sprout that has withered and died, try sprinkling some powdered cinnamon because cinnamon is a natural anti fungal.

Would have been a better had he taught us how to select the best seeds. An important strap that should not have been eliminated. Also some videos says the seeds needs to be refrigerated first?
I'll just leave an answer from my knowledge, if it's store bought, usually it's already been stored in a fridge for some time. So you don't need to refrigerate in that case. I'm not from a cold country so we don't really have blueberries that aren't store bought. I planted some and I have a seedling right now so I hope that helps 😕
