Are there any historical reasons for sound shift when the part (ОГО) is used to denote the adjective in the genitive case? Is it because Russians find it easier to pronounce it as (ОВО) when the part (ОГО) comes at the end of the sentence?

Before russians pronounced this sound ОГО with letter Г. It was for a very long time ago.
