Wow such a simple idea yet I leave probably 2/3rds of my shots short especially short game shots. I’m a very defensive short game player so looking forward to applying this thought process to my next round and be more agreesive
175 to the flag. At 65, with a shoulder, hip, and knee replacement, that's my 5 wood. Can't swing hard anymore, but I'm retired, playing more golf than I did when I was working, and I'm better than ever. Took 13 points last time out with my playing buddies Nothing greater than a double, missed several birdie putts, keep it in play, and my short game was on. Your videos have helped me with the thought process and for that I am forever grateful.
Errr, hitting a 5 wood 175yds through the air is a good hit for any amateur. Don’t believe the dreamers on here telling you they can blast a driver 300 yds! It doesn’t happen, guaranteed!
David, love yr quite calm voice yr Not SCREAMING at us like so many others...mate you got me from Sydney Australia. GIOTG......Get It On The Green, as golf Sidekick says. WELL DONE mate
Something we're always told, but rarely remember to do! I'm as bad as anyone for leaving approach shots and chips short but I'll be trying my best to do this in the coming months, thanks.
We have to put our egos in check. Most amateurs simply don’t hit the ball as far as they think do (or once did!) I have been taking your advice, but cheat a bit by simply taking one more club for nearly every shot. If my brain says “7 iron”, I take my 6. I think it helps me swing more smoothly with better rhythm since I don’t feel like I have hit a “perfect” 7. I won’t say that it never hurts me since there certainly are holes with trouble deep (on those, I still take one more club, but I do choke up a bit), but overall, my “one more club rule” has seemed to put the percentages solidly in my favor.
Taking on board your philosophy I've improved my game no end......Watching your smooth rhythmic swing I've taken on board the same and I'm constantly hitting that sweet spot and It's fantastic!!!!
I only recently started playing on a Main Course, after a period using the Par 3 course at my local club. I have now completed 10 Main Course rounds and decided to look into where I was losing shots. One of the questions I asked, was, "Outside of 30 yards from the green, how many times am I short of the green with my chip/pitch/approach shot (when it is in strike-able range)?" The answer was, on average, over 4 holes per round I am within range but end up short. There is a lot to be said for your advice, and I'd be delighted to drop 20% from my handicap!
Yep, I've heard tons of pros who play pro-ams say one of the biggest long game/approach mistakes by amateurs is under clubbing "they never take enough club!"...
I thought exactly the same … a lovely idea, if you strike the ball as consistently as he does, I’m off 22 and still spray the ball all over the place … 😂
You gotta start somewhere! This may seem out of reach for you now but keep practicing and playing and this may make more sense to you. But this is really good course management information. No more shorties…

Especially in your short game, reaching the hole more with your chipping helps improve your putting. Please enjoy.

Give it a go, it may take a few games to get your head round it, but when you do it will make a massive difference
Thanks!
Thank you for watching
Easy for a professional
