Corvette is just an absolute bargain of the century, past 3 generations running. In it's relative market it just brings the pain every time. This is the Grand Sport with a Z07 option, but frankly, for a track slut you'd be foolish to get the carbon brakes versus equipping it with an aftermarket set of AP Racing irons...way cheaper consumables, way more durable. That said, this price as tested, isn't the car to own. Buy a base Grand Sport, upgrade as you use it. You can be in this car for 65k and even though GT350R's price as tested was around that number...good LUCK buying one at that number...dealer gouging all day. Shame the ACR couldn't put a car to market that sells, because the ACR is a winner but...end of the day...Corvette is that car you can drive to the office in, go to dinner in, then hit the track on the weekend and eat peoples lunch. No Porsche/Mclaren maintenance bills either. Corvette just killed it.
I'm about to be shopping here shortly for a GS. I have a 2002 Z06, pretty built for street/track I am going to sell I believe. I need dealer to work with to get me what I need and get me the financing I need. I'm going to do like 13-15 down. My credit is solid but I have 2 defaulted student loans that should be gone shortly but...they're F'in me! Let me know if you think you have what it takes.
Yeah, Competition spec r-compound tyres, The SAME class as the grandSports tyres, And it has over 100bhp more, Its 300lbs lighter, And 2.5 times the price with an auto matic, STop using the same tired tyre excuse.
Ya especially the price point. Just proves as always that corvettes are excellent performance cars for much lower costs. Now think about if you modified it further would beat most exotics on the track.
For a hundred thousand dollars more you can go .01 of a second faster. LOL! Way to go Chevrolet! People are saying it, the Lightning Lap proved it. The GS is the best Stingray yet. (Uh oh, let me brace for incoming from the Z06 owners). Side note: it looked like he was running in sport mode instead of track. At least that was the gage cluster showed.
The GS was in Track mode with the PTM in Race with the stability control fully disabled. It may appear to be in Sport mode (as you point out) because the instrument display was in Sport. I prefer the round tachometer of the Sport display to the Track cluster.
The options are part of what makes this car perform. Z07, club seats and track package are a must for those who are track focused. Great car, nonetheless.
Base is 66k...74k for the Z07 performance package. This tester was an all-luxury options 3LT car. You can buy this performance level for 74k (per GM's website). Comp seats for an extra 2K. Everything else is just appearance.
I have a question. If we watched motor trend video, I look there is no paddle shift on steer on grand sport version, only manual shifter available. While corvette GS in this video have it. And then, How many a difference price between Grand Sport with paddle shift on steer and GS with only manual shift (z07 package version)? If use paddle shift on steer, the acceleration will be faster? and can use to get hot lap on circuit? Thanks...
I wish GM sent a 1LT trim, would save about 100 pounds and Beat the GT3! Maybe I'm wrong, does anyone know the weight difference between 1lt and 3lt? Great lap! I would be excited as well.
The Corvette team doesnt do shit like that. They have confidence in their engineering. Look how track whored-out the ACR is. A grandma can drive a Corvette. A viper? No.
That would be the C5 & C6 Z06 models. They could be equipped with 1Lt trim. And yes they were super light. I dont know why GM merged the Zr1 & Z06 together for the C7. When the Z06 has always been the track focused car. I read they failed at getting a 454 LS engine to pass emissions (427 replacement). That was suppose to be in the current Z06. While the LT4 would go in the Zr1 model. Oh well.
Why don't you use the same driver for all cars? Some cars are clearly being pushed far harder then others by clearly more skilled drivers, like this one for example.
+panzos285 it's funny because before they used a professional race car driver for all the cars and just like you said now that using different drivers for different cars which is clearly not fair
Because they have 20 cars and a limited amount of time at VIR to get lap times, video and shoot pictures for the magazine. You can see in this video that they are running multiple cars on the track at the same time even.
+panzos285 Wrong. You are confusing Lightning Lap with Motor Trend's "Best Driver's Car". The format for LL has ALWAYS been several editors from the magazine driving each car, with the fastest lap being put on the board no matter who does it. They explain this literally every year.
Dude i think you're right, because something's wrong in here.... the Vette being 9 seconds faster than the R8 Plus??? And the worst thing is that the driver is the same on both cars
Many of the journalists drive european cars, and if you read the other articles they don't seem to have any pro American bias. Maybe you are letting your bias dictate what you think the lap times should be.
That's an example of a perfect balanced car! The power/chassis/tires can do it's best with the manual transmission option! Imagine if a world class sport trans like pdk were ofered...The result is that brilliant lap time! I don't know what Chevy wiil do with that claimed 800hp ZR1! The word is that the 650hp is alteady too much for the C7 Z06...
Ho-Ly shizzz!! Door to door with the GT3 RS??! THIS is the Z06 that should have been! What did the Z06 run last year, again? I have to say I'm flabbergasted. Did NOT expect the GS to be that fast around a track with such a HP deficit.
Tobi Ogunsanwo I looked it up. I'll have to take that with a grain of salt. Their numbers also show the base GT3 posting a better time than the GT3 RS on the Club circuit.
Most of these cars in the top tear are wearing r compound tires FYI , the Ferrari , both porches ,the mclaren all r compounds so there's no advantage. The vette is at a disadvantage because it's a manual and if it were equipped with the 10 speed auto it's times would be much faster..
It's so true. I think the handling and that power level are a perfect match. I would like to see them squeeze a little more hp out of it, but I am not complaining. I wonder what the 1/4 mile and trap speed are.
Dolby 109 lingenfelter and many other companies have N/A packages ranging from 550-630+ hp with the upgrades youve mentioned so yup quite easily an impressive beast
This car is a track killer. I am waiting for all of the times to come out with the 8 speed auto. GM GM, when will you get the base hp up to 485-500 hp? It kills now in this price range, with a little more power, it would destroy everything within 50K on the road course.
BleedForTheWorld well i did manage to build online and get.to $88k from what i see here. i was more looking at the base price in the vid as even with the z07 package ($8k.) the grandsport is $73k and.with the highest trim (3lt) is $83k the z06 base price is $79k & the z06 w/z07 starts at $92k. Crazy thing is ive read on forums where some are getting 20% off a zo6
Wow, I might be looking at my new car. Debating 2012 TO 2015 CTS-V, or if funds comein correct a Corvette GS like this. Sir Brian, my family resident car GURU suggests this car instead of trying to turn the CTS-V, more powerful but a LOT heavier and not nearly as nimble, into a stereotype car that car so tracks days. Send up a prayer🙏🏻🙏🏿🙏🙏🏾for me, k let y'all know which easy it goes. MJ 882
You probably could have saved a second if you didn't keep randomly stabbing the throttle the way you did mid turn causing self induced over steer. Not exactly sure why you were doing that but oh well.
Dumping all the videos at once. No commentary. Incorrect information about the base price of the car in this video. Some real Busch league hummdingery if I've ever seen it.
I think the base price is supposed to be including all performance options (so in this case, including the Z07 package), whereas the as tested shows the difference with luxury options.
Drove much more aggressively here than on the Camaro SS 1LE. Could easily account for 3 seconds. Not saying the Vette isn't faster than the Camaro, just not 7 seconds faster.
This car has a manual transmission. To shift with a tradition clutch pedal/stick shift you can never be as fast as a car with a dual clutch and paddle shifters. You would be shaving a half second here, a half second there...Over the course of the track you could probably gain a couple of seconds. Which, in racing, is an eternity.
Well good for you.I didn't say I didn't prefer manual did I? I was just trying to explain to the guy above what I meant. And, that would have propelled the GS to an even lower track time beating even the GT3 and maybe the Ferrari. Are we clear yet? Or do I have to keep explaining myself?
close to a z06 damn ...chevy has some problems if that 7.0 liter is around put that in the z06. they should be able to muster 620 hp out of that engine. both best cars forvthe buck by a mile
You need better control measures in your testing. Stop letting journalists set lap times and use the same race car driver like motortrend does. Imagine if they let Jonny Lieberman set lap times! Use the journalist to write their subjective reviews about the cars but leave the driving to proper racing car drivers.
Actually the LT1 makes more torque across the board, so while it doesn't make as much peak power it makes more power than the LS7 nearly until its redline. That is why the new Camaro SS is pretty much on par with the old Z/28 in a drag race.
No, it doesn't make more torque at any point in the band. From 2-5k they make almost identical power (in many instances, better)....after 5k the LS7 leaves the LT1 behind quickly. Make no mistake, the LS7 is the overall more powerful engine. There are many reasons the SS is on par with the Z/28. The Z is using rock-hard rubber with an extremely track-oriented DSSV suspension with no launch control....and the Z weighs almost 3900lbs. Only the auto is consistently pulling faster times....the Z is still on par or faster than an M6 SS. Drivers being equal.
BEBNC1 Need to look at a dyno bro. The LT1 makes more low end torque and holds it longer. It isn't until the upper RPM that the LS7's power/torque lines pass it. So yes the LS7 makes more peak power and probably is a slightly better engine...until a tune anyway.
Dolby 109 Hmmm....that is just not true. What do you mean by "hold longer"? The power band for the LS7 is more wide. This not for debate. I have seen this a few times. Here's this for starters....I'll find more. www.google.com/search?q=LT1+dyno+vs+LS7+dyno+graph&safe=active&biw=1366&bih=657&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiH1Zef5cHPAhXCej4KHUpMAgAQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=DT-dxLbTqh6NNM%3A
BEBNC1 I don't know I had heard otherwise a few times before. Anyway look at this chart: www.camaro6.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=742544&d=1441639146 The LT1 isn't really ahead but below 4500rpm the power and torque are virtually the same.
This test car had the Z07 package with Ceramic Carbon brakes, high aero, etc. My GS is about 82K sticker without the Z07 package and some other options. I have the iron Brembos and regular aero.
This is evidence that you take car and driver lightly for the times they post. Compare this with the Viper ACR time. You would have me believe that it's the ACR is only 3 seconds faster than the grand sport when it was 2-3 seconds faster than the z06 when Randy post at motortrend raced them in their head to head on a shorter track??? Come on!!!
kenya catholic Logic is not on your side friend. The ACR is better in almost every category except acceleration where they're practically equal. On what possible track will the z06 have an advantage over the ACR? The only x factor would be the driver. The ACR theoretically will beat the z06 on any track.
+God Save America for what the ACR is basically a stripped down street legal race car with ridiculous aero bits and equal HP to a z06.. it's no surprise it's faster than a fully loaded, daily driver Z06.. I can bet you any money that a Z06 with the same treatment or even a possible zr1 will outperform the ACR.. the vette has always topped the viper and forget comparing price because the viper loses that too.. but hey, I like both cars and they blow away the competition.. it's kind of a shame the viper will be discontinued though..
You can argue the point with most cars, if this was done or that was done, yada yada yada. The point is, in its factory form the acr is a significantly better track car than the z06 and the z06 is great. The acr should have had a much better time I think. Obviously the grand sport driver was very determined to make a good run and possibly accomplished that. That effort should've been put into the rest of the cars.
C&D did report a small issue with the turn in. With all the deleted items weight balance was not ideal. Some chassis work should have been done to balance it out.
As fast as this lap time was. It could have been even faster had the driver had the car in its track setting. Which has the least amount of traction control and more aggressive shift mapping and sharper throttle response. Plus the valves in the exhaust stay open. But lol my favorite car of all time destroyed all other competitors in its class. And by a land slide.
The GS was in Track mode with the PTM in Race with the stability control fully disabled. I imagine you think it was in Sport because the instrument display was in Sport. I prefer the round tachometer of the Sport display to the Track cluster.
Servant of JESUS CHRIST And yet all of the Corvettes that have set lap records have been manuals. Even when automatics are faster, its only minutely so and at the cost of the cars soul. Don't sell your soul for half a second per lap at a race track you know you'll never go to.
Dolby 109 Sigh driving the Automatic is not taking the soul out of the car. The C7R racecar is automated as well. Automatics are what allow Chevy to make manuals. Because most people can not drive one.
Those tires grip like an r-comp! Just dont drive them when it's below 40 degrees. They transform the GS into a world class car. On base MPSS the car would be a few seconds slower per lap but still a monster. Love the MPSC2's that the Corvette engineers choose for the GS but they are cheater tires all the way.
khudyman "hose tires grip like an r-comp! " And? They come on the car FROM THE FACTORY, as in they are literally put on the car inside the factory as it's being assembled. Now explain to me exactly how that's "cheating". Don't be afraid to use a dictionary if you need to.
It's a cheater tire because a normal street tire could not perform at that level. Chevy is smart, and they did the same thing a few years ago with the Z28 on Trofeo R factory installed tires. Chevy is the cheater here but they beat the system and everyone else. The GT3 RS in the test has the same cheater tires but in the NO spec from Porsche. A Michelin tire engineer told us at tech tactics that the Corvette spec is softer than the Porsche spec because Chevy was going for all out grip, while Porsche was going for a balance between grip and colder weather capability. Let's call it gaming the system tire instead of a cheater tire. How's that?
450hp Cayman GT4 beats chevy by 0.5sec . Could have 2 1LE loaded or the GT4 ?? GT4 will prob never drop below sticker and prob climb like a GT3 in value therefore a collector would obviously fork out the bucks, 918 guys got first orders of GT4
GT4 was 7 seconds SLOWER than the Grand Sport....And yes, the GT4 is very limited production and Chevy makes lots of GS's, so the GS will never hold its value like the GT4, if that is what matters to you.
Really? What does that even prove, the car's performance speaks for itself. Why should anyone care about some stupid number that comes on a dyno sheet? The feel and overall performance are what matters, and this car obviously has it in spades. Beating cars at twice the price and you still find a way to complain about the power... what in the world.
Could you make it less obvious that you're purposefully being slow in certain cars? That section from 1:20 to 1:30 with Audi R8 Plus lost you 2 seconds because you went slower there than in the Audi TT. Looks like some manufacturers payed more than others.
Why bother even publishing R8 Plus lap? It makes C&D look really bad, not the car. Audi should ban you from reviews. this test is a joke, different drivers, different setups an so on....
Common stop your bullshit excuses you're seeing the best times put down by all the editors so every tester got a crack at each car.. That's how it's done at LL
your point? It's still 120K and considered to be a low volume car that exceeds anything in it's price range when it comes to performance and reliability. I assume you think I'm some sort of specific fan to this car; unfortunately I'm not. I do love the old Gen I and II Viper. My cousin happens to own a 2016 C7 that I like to give him shit about just for fun b/c I can't afford one. The ACR was bound to suffer in sales regardless b/c it's not an everyday car, it's a track car with just enough to make it road legal. The fact that it's faster around tracks than a 918 and P1 says a lot for a car that's 9-10x less expensive.
***** Huh, the GT3 RS doesn't have nearly as much aero as the Viper and isn't nearly as track focused as the Viper. Lots of difference, here's a few, it's built with a boxter engine (flat) not a V10 that'll wake up a state. Rear engine vs front engine. Manual only for the Viper. The pedal placement is odd as well as the steering wheel. The Viper probably has the largest tires on any road going car currently. Also you're comparing a car with heritage that dates back over 60+ years (40+ yrs RS form) in European performance racing to an American muscle car that was just recently changed to a track focused performance car that hasn't existed more than 25 years. By the time someone actually purchases an RS they have basically tallied up about 200K vs 120K to 130K meaning they have already bought into the brand not just the car even before looking anywhere else especially not an American automobile. The 911's are one of the best car investments you can make due to it's following and appreciation later in life. You're talking about two very different markets that have very specific buyers when you go over 100K. The 911 is one of the best selling sports cars ever that includes Ferrari. I think the only reason for the ACR actually showed up in showrooms was to homologation rules. What American car that has cost over 115K actually sells well? Acura NSX?
excuse? I'm not making any excuses, Corvettes have never been known to be expensive sports cars. They've always been sold as the bargain sports car as have the Mustang's. Only recently have they gone up to 90K to 100K. If you're just concerned about cost, shit vettes have sold at well over 2 to 3 million at auctions.
also any car with options starting at around an 80K base price can go well over 100K. Shit Tesla's go over 100K. There is no other car on the market that cost as low and give as much performance as a Viper ACR off the showroom floor, that's a fact. That doesn't mean you go out and buy one to drive everyday. The thing with speed and cost etc. is that if you want serious performance, you purchase a motorcycle like the H2 if you're experienced enough to ride it. $30K 300hp and can destroy pretty much anything on the road and that includes Veyrons.
Vernon Price Whoa, calm down, sir. My spine is just fine, and I do indeed drive what I want. I was just making a general statement of fact. No judgement here.
Kevin Vines "it's a big fat cliche to own one." is not a statement of fact. If you think it is, you need to break out a dictionary and look up the word "fact". What you're describing is an "opinion", not a "fact". Also, saying it's a cliche to own one is, specifically, judgment.
Vernon Price Thank you for your internet argument. Instead of a dictionary, try Google. Type "is it a cliche to own a corvette" and read "Why Do Men Buy Corvettes"... It's at the top of the list. This article will educate you on the cliche I speak about. Again, I'm not judging, but it is not my opinion this cliche exists, it's fact. Good day, sir.
Kevin Vines Instead of doing any of that, do what I told you to do and look up the definition of a fact. I promise that you'll learn something new regarding how facts work. For example, one magazine article does not constitute a global fact, especially when the article in question is an opinion piece. And yes, you are judging, by saying it's a cliche. By saying it's a cliche, you are specifically referring to a certain type of person that you seem to believe represents people who drive Corvettes, and that you don't want to be associated with, hence your reasoning for not wanting one. That's the definition of judgment, son. Also I didn't say it was your opinion that the cliche exists. I said the cliche itself was not a fact, because you said it WAS a fact. It isn't.
wow, the Helmet cam is almost unwatchable. Unless you are Jean Alesi hitting 3Gs in an F1 car, you shouldn't have to tilt you head so much. BTW, why so much excitement at the end, several times you were between shifts and didn't know if you should upshift or downshift, so you just went off throttle? You have to either be on it or not, too much indecision. As a Porsche fan, glad you don't know how to drive all that well, would have made the Porsches even look worse. This was about the worse drive on this series and I wonder if it has to do with the manual trans car. You guys should hire a professional driver to drive all these car (inter-rater reliability is a real thing, you shouldn't have to add another variable to the equation).
Damn near the same lap time as a GT RS with a manual transmission and less power. I can see why he yelled out, thats a staggeringly good performance. Its apparently comfortable on the road as well. Excellent package.
Chevrolet is now easily the king of performance
Yes Yes YESSS! I love it. Man, I got to get back to this track. This is my favorite track and its the closest to my home. Corvette was ballin! Just imagine the lap time with a Dual Clutch transmission.
And now you can (2 seconds slower). I know, base model C8 vs wide body C7 (but that GS... WOW)
YESSS YES YES YESSSSSSSSSS
An even better sound at the end than the small block lol
I'll have what he's having
LOL Butch!!!! Well played.
lol... I just saw that movie for the first time last week. Amazon Prime ftw.
Came to the comments to find exactly this... hehe!
That's a very good lap for the power it's putting out. A well balanced car there.
I enjoy the Annual Lightning Lap vids. .. And all at once is fine with me... Nice run.. That GS was haulin'!
Huge grip and traction! The difference in corner speeds to the mac 570 is quite astonishing, the mac is seriously lacking in some tyre width.
Really Impressive. I'll take the 1LT with Z07 package.
Take a look at the rankings because it goes head to head with the gt3 rs. Punching well above its weight, the Corvette truly deserves a status as a future classic.
Bang.
For.
Buck.
And then some!

and then some
so think about that

Love his reaction at the end
0.1 seconds slower than a 911GT3 RS .....$ 103 000 cheaper . Seems like a bargain to me .
Corvette is just an absolute bargain of the century, past 3 generations running. In it's relative market it just brings the pain every time. come see me if you want one without "dealer gouge"
YES!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!
FASTER THAN A MCLAREN 570S? WOOOOO!
I'd hope have you seen the tires they put on the 570? Lmao
still impressive for 100 less horsepower and $100,000 less money
"the tires they put on the 570" That's on mclaren, the car is what they make it.
+Clous von they all had r compound tires rated exactly the same so no bullshit excuses from Europe
Yeah, Competition spec r-compound tyres, The SAME class as the grandSports tyres, And it has over 100bhp more, Its 300lbs lighter, And 2.5 times the price with an auto matic, STop using the same tired tyre excuse.
This car is epic. Still able to be as fast as the GT3 RS.
With a manual transmission
and more weight...
and RWD
Joshua Stevenson the GT3 RS is RWD...
I think he was pleased with that run.
Dang, $100,000 less than a GT3 RS and only 0.1 second slower. I love it
I bet Porche got alot of hate mail from their customers after this.
Impressive! Can't wait to see how the Z06 will stack up!
awesome run! .10 off the GT3 RS!
too bad GM sent this heavier 3lt trim which adds heated seats and a subwofer. 1lt trim would have beat it!
True, but that configuration is probably pretty close to what many people would purchase for the track.
the Vette being 9 seconds faster than the R8 Plus??? Serious...this test is a joke!
@@47ettan Audi sent the R8 with shitty tires.
destroyed that GT4 lap
I'm 99% sure that's why the driver was celebrating at the end. He knew it lol
Frankly im surprised it is only a tenth off the GT3RS pace
Ya especially the price point. Just proves as always that corvettes are excellent performance cars for much lower costs. Now think about if you modified it further would beat most exotics on the track.
I'd hope so it's the lowest GT named Porsche lol
+Clous von .5 sec from the gt3 rs with a manual transmission so a corvette GS equipped with GM's 10 speed auto would be no contest..
Now imagine if it had the same advantage as the Porsche, Ferrari, and BMW with the DCT. It wouldve been even faster.
Getting the vette with the auto 10 speed beats the Porsche no problem ...The gt3 rs is uses a DCT
The GS was in Track mode with the PTM in Race with the stability control fully disabled. It may appear to be in Sport mode (as you point out) because the instrument display was in Sport. I prefer the round tachometer of the Sport display to the Track cluster.
Maybe a lap without the Z07 package?? Be nice to know what the car would do in the most common configuration.
Tony sure seemed to like it.
A little excited about that lap, Tony? ;)
this car keeps pace with a new GT3 RS for half the price incredible
Question to Car and Driver. Did you compare the Racelogic data to the onboard PDR? Same laptime utilizing both data systems?
What was the warning chime and dash display that occurred mid video?
Best C7 Ever! Will be missed!
That is pretty damn good! He was also very excited at the end lol
This chassis with those tires is where it's at.
BUY AMERICAN!!
$92,000 as tested? Uhmmm, might as well just buy a damn Z06.
Doez options man.
If you think options are expensive on a Corvette you should try adding similar to an M4, or worse a 911.
Thanks...
Actually this is the same car MT used in their test. Paddles are for the rev match feature. Only auto model uses them for manually shifting.
Good driving, Tony
Sounds proper !!!
A viper? No.
it's still pretty stupid to bring to most luxurious and heaviest option to a track contest.
Oh well.
The theory is that they're saving the ZR1 designation for the mid-engined model.
This is impressive. I would like a test with the same driver but I understand that was not feasible for this particular test.
sounds so good!
Why has his name been stripped from the record?
what a great machine
Why don't you use the same driver for all cars? Some cars are clearly being pushed far harder then others by clearly more skilled drivers, like this one for example.
agreed
Clearly...
I just picked up a Grand sport 3LZ, worth it all and more x ,s 100
I don't know about you guys but it seems that they are pushing more American cars to their limits. Saying that Corvettes as fast as fuck.
Dude i think you're right, because something's wrong in here.... the Vette being 9 seconds faster than the R8 Plus??? And the worst thing is that the driver is the same on both cars
All the american cars are driving with empty tank.. plus they seem to really go at it in them. Reminds me of good old BMI !
The guy that was driving the mustang 350R seems that he had trouble making that time I mean the way he celebrated like crazy when he finished the lap
Many of the journalists drive european cars, and if you read the other articles they don't seem to have any pro American bias.
Maybe you are letting your bias dictate what you think the lap times should be.
Wrecking a cheaper cars is less of a big deal.
Bad ass my favorite variant of the c8
awesome
That's an example of a perfect balanced car! The power/chassis/tires can do it's best with the manual transmission option! Imagine if a world class sport trans like pdk were ofered...The result is that brilliant lap time! I don't know what Chevy wiil do with that claimed 800hp ZR1! The word is that the 650hp is alteady too much for the C7 Z06...
Beat the Cayman GT4 by over 7 seconds? Wow.... And most GT4s cost well over 100K, too.
Ho-Ly shizzz!! Door to door with the GT3 RS??! THIS is the Z06 that should have been! What did the Z06 run last year, again? I have to say I'm flabbergasted. Did NOT expect the GS to be that fast around a track with such a HP deficit.
2:44:6
You should see the Z06 handing the GT3RS its arse on magny cours. Check motorsport magazine youtube channel.
Tobi Ogunsanwo
I looked it up. I'll have to take that with a grain of salt. Their numbers also show the base GT3 posting a better time than the GT3 RS on the Club circuit.
"Torque wins races" : Carrol Shelby
that's a seriously quick time lol
What is the difference between the grand sport and the regular vette?
FAT semi-slicks, wings and body kit, and race suspension/brakes
bogdan135 Thank you. So it just doesn't have the fast engine?
yep, same engine as base Corvette, probably a good thing as z06 overheats like crazy after a few laps
the graphic at the top left does not coincide with the dash...@0:44 showing 77 mph while the speedo is at 91
To make the times more accurate they should have 1 professional driver hot lap all the cars but man this grand sport was impressive.
Well, Justin Bell said the Grand Sport will be the tack enthusiast choice in the Covrvette line-up... I guess so!!
need to put that screen on G-force or RPM mode
Best balanced corvette ever
the dude driving...hats-off to you..white knuckle
GS looks glued to this track. Those Cup2's are very close to real slicks. Not even the Viper could out grip it.
Not even close to slicks, And the Vipers way out gripped this
Show me where online says ACR out gripped GS. Even at the end of Hog Pen coming on to the last strait both hit 1.45G's.
Fan boy much
The only fanboy here is the driver at the wheel, lol. He's the one saying yes yes not me. C&D wrote the articles my comments are based off.
Most of these cars in the top tear are wearing r compound tires FYI , the Ferrari , both porches ,the mclaren all r compounds so there's no advantage. The vette is at a disadvantage because it's a manual and if it were equipped with the 10 speed auto it's times would be much faster..
Can't imagine if this car had a heads, cam package and then do a re run.
A grand sport faster than an R8 V10 and a 570s? GTFO!
Please, even the SS 1LE Camaro is faster than the R8 V10. Audi needs to step up their game.
Leave it to GM and Corvette engineers to build an American sports car with super car performance
It's so true. I think the handling and that power level are a perfect match. I would like to see them squeeze a little more hp out of it, but I am not complaining. I wonder what the 1/4 mile and trap speed are.
Marc Smith
Probably somewhat similar to the regular Corvette. Low 12's @ ~115.
I bet this car with headers, cam and tune would be a ~540hp beast.
Dolby 109 lingenfelter and many other companies have N/A packages ranging from 550-630+ hp with the upgrades youve mentioned so yup quite easily an impressive beast
03:11 -- "I'll have what he's having."
If you want to go very fast for not stupid money, look no further than a Grand Sport. This car is silly fast.
Just as a corvette to corvette comparison, did anyone realize this thing went faster than the 2012 ZR1? By 3 seconds to be exact!
"Yes! Yes! Yes, YES!!!" 3:15
At 2:09 I immediately thought the car was tipping over, gave me a mini heart attack
This car is a track killer. I am waiting for all of the times to come out with the 8 speed auto. GM GM, when will you get the base hp up to 485-500 hp? It kills now in this price range, with a little more power, it would destroy everything within 50K on the road course.
Holy balls. FLYING.
Thats a ripper!!!
grand sport starts at $65k. idk why they have the zo6 price. awesome time
This one has all the goodies and then some, including the Z07 aerodynamic package.
BleedForTheWorld well i did manage to build online and get.to $88k from what i see here. i was more looking at the base price in the vid as even with the z07 package ($8k.) the grandsport is $73k and.with the highest trim (3lt) is $83k
the z06 base price is $79k & the z06 w/z07 starts at $92k. Crazy thing is ive read on forums where some are getting 20% off a zo6
bobkilla430 Yeah 20% used and not brand new. You can ask Corvette Conti or Kerbeck Corvette on how it works. Still a great value for a super Corvette.
Felt like the lap could have been a little cleaner. I bet the 8spd would knock off 2 seconds.
So looks like the reviewers are totally unbiased
Everyone's got a bias, but not everyone's is the same. That is why there are multiple people driving each car.
Not exactly sure why you were doing that but oh well.
fixed gopro in the cabin would be much better
Dumping all the videos at once. No commentary. Incorrect information about the base price of the car in this video. Some real Busch league hummdingery if I've ever seen it.
A day after I received my subscription with C and D they posted these video as part of it I guess
I still haven't gotten my mag, so pissed
I think the base price is supposed to be including all performance options (so in this case, including the Z07 package), whereas the as tested shows the difference with luxury options.
+Adam S (Dolby109) no they are showing the base price for the zo6. The grand sport starts @ 65k
Drove much more aggressively here than on the Camaro SS 1LE. Could easily account for 3 seconds. Not saying the Vette isn't faster than the Camaro, just not 7 seconds faster.
Imagine how much time you could gain with a dual clutch, instead of working the stick.
Huh?
This car has a manual transmission. To shift with a tradition clutch pedal/stick shift you can never be as fast as a car with a dual clutch and paddle shifters. You would be shaving a half second here, a half second there...Over the course of the track you could probably gain a couple of seconds. Which, in racing, is an eternity.
Who cares? I'd rather be a few tenths slower and enjoying myself!
The 10 speed auto that GM has is faster than the PDK
close to a z06 damn ...chevy has some problems if that 7.0 liter is around put that in the z06. they should be able to muster 620 hp out of that engine. both best cars forvthe buck by a mile
They really should have added 40 hp to make up for the difference in price and capability.
You need better control measures in your testing. Stop letting journalists set lap times and use the same race car driver like motortrend does. Imagine if they let Jonny Lieberman set lap times! Use the journalist to write their subjective reviews about the cars but leave the driving to proper racing car drivers.
4 thumbs up
Imagine if this had the old LS7 in it instead. It'd rule.
BEBNC1
Need to look at a dyno bro. The LT1 makes more low end torque and holds it longer. It isn't until the upper RPM that the LS7's power/torque lines pass it.
So yes the LS7 makes more peak power and probably is a slightly better engine...until a tune anyway.
Dolby 109
Hmmm....that is just not true. What do you mean by "hold longer"? The power band for the LS7 is more wide. This not for debate. I have seen this a few times. Here's this for starters....I'll find more. www.google.com/search?q=LT1+dyno+vs+LS7+dyno+graph&safe=active&biw=1366&bih=657&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiH1Zef5cHPAhXCej4KHUpMAgAQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=DT-dxLbTqh6NNM%3A
BEBNC1 I don't know I had heard otherwise a few times before.
Anyway look at this chart: www.camaro6.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=742544&d=1441639146
The LT1 isn't really ahead but below 4500rpm the power and torque are virtually the same.
Lol 90k for a stingray, and people are calling it a bargain.....
We're taking in comparison to equal to or higher performing cars that cost double/triple+ what the C7 does.
that price is wrong that for a z06 this car is more like 75k
This test car had the Z07 package with Ceramic Carbon brakes, high aero, etc. My GS is about 82K sticker without the Z07 package and some other options. I have the iron Brembos and regular aero.
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWZERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
This is evidence that you take car and driver lightly for the times they post. Compare this with the Viper ACR time. You would have me believe that it's the ACR is only 3 seconds faster than the grand sport when it was 2-3 seconds faster than the z06 when Randy post at motortrend raced them in their head to head on a shorter track??? Come on!!!
It depends on the track. The Z06 easily takes down the ACR on some tracks, I
kenya catholic
Logic is not on your side friend.
Until Chevy does what's needed to beat the acr. Assume they can't. No shoulda couldas.
so by this are they trying to convince people that the 460 hp vette that weighs more than a gt3rs, and has less hp, is faster?
C&D did report a small issue with the turn in. With all the deleted items weight balance was not ideal. Some chassis work should have been done to balance it out.
One answer : TORQUE!
92? Zo6 all the way
As fast as this lap time was.
Shift mapping? This is a proper transmission bro, not an auto.
And yet the Automatic is faster. Heck even the Corvette C7.R using a paddle automatic transmission.
Because most people can not drive one.
why did he scream like he just had a big O? werid-o
Ok I'm disappointed it looks great but why lower top speed and power this is the coolest looking corvette but not the fastest
Fast car. Cheater tires - love them!
MPSC2 ZP are a little softer in ZP form accordingly to the Michelin tire experts...
I don't think you understand what the word "cheater" means.
And?
How's that?
aug its painfull to slow
450hp Cayman GT4 beats chevy by 0.5sec . Could have 2 1LE loaded or the GT4 ?? GT4 will prob never drop below sticker and prob climb like a GT3 in value therefore a collector would obviously fork out the bucks, 918 guys got first orders of GT4
also drive M3 conv and 944T show street, but these V8 muscle cars are unique and can take a good beating unlike Euro cars
GT4 was 7 seconds SLOWER than the Grand Sport....And yes, the GT4 is very limited production and Chevy makes lots of GS's, so the GS will never hold its value like the GT4, if that is what matters to you.
damn 100k and not even 500hp....
Really? What does that even prove, the car's performance speaks for itself. Why should anyone care about some stupid number that comes on a dyno sheet? The feel and overall performance are what matters, and this car obviously has it in spades. Beating cars at twice the price and you still find a way to complain about the power... what in the world.
HORRSSEPOWAAARRR IS ALL THAT MMATTERRZZ BRUHHH
lol its safe to say horsepower is a huge part of a sports car were not talking about a camary... for 100k you could do way better
Get a Z06 for the same money with 650 HP. Take your pick.... This was a loaded GS. You can get a GS for much less....
the Vette being 9 seconds faster than the R8 Plus??? Serious...this test is a joke!
You guys really need to get yourselves a Stig to drive all cars to set some proper lap times
More like the R8 Plus is a joke, amirite?
Common stop your bullshit excuses you're seeing the best times put down by all the editors so every tester got a crack at each car.. That's how it's done at LL
still can't beat the ACR, sorry Chevy
What. The. Fuck.
gm paid his ass off to get the fastest lap that's why he said "yes" and i notice some cars he drove he really didnt push them as much as other
GM didn't pay anyone he was competing with the other editors and got the fastest time among them all.. He won
Aw butt hurt much?
GM didn't pay shit....sorry, you lose.
That thing is a rocket on rails! Too bad it's a big fat cliche to own one.
If you buy cars based on how you think other people perceive you in it, you're doing it wrong. Grow a spine and drive the cars you want to drive.
Vernon Price Whoa, calm down, sir. My spine is just fine, and I do indeed drive what I want. I was just making a general statement of fact. No judgement here.
Kevin Vines "it's a big fat cliche to own one."
is not a statement of fact.
You guys should hire a professional driver to drive all these car (inter-rater reliability is a real thing, you shouldn't have to add another variable to the equation).
rodney hawkins he was having fun you should try it sometime
