Have you ever been on a writing retreat? Let me know how it went and if you enjoyed it! I'd also love to hear if you are planning any writing retreats coming up!
I’ve done quite a few writing retreats. Love love love.
I'm currently on vacation and I'm treating it like a writing retreat 😂✨✍️
I did a writing retreat with a couple of friends a few years ago. It wasn't a big success for me because they'd chosen a seaside cottage with no wifi (to avoid distractions), and I just got frustrated at not being able to look up information when I needed it - I was writing historical fantasy which needed a lot of research. I'd love to do one again, though, now that I know more about my own process.
I'm going on another retreat in a week. Yay! I run three writing retreats a year (used to be more) for doctoral students who need to finish their dissertations, and it's amazing that by the end of day 5, so many of them send off the final draft! I find the small group works best - I've had from 4 to 7 students, and 5-6 is the perfect amount. We do two group check-ins a day, and I hire a caterer, so the food is freshly prepared for us. We stay on the island at an Artscape facility with other writers and artists from all over the world who are working in their studios all day all week. Bonfires at night. Lots of beach to walk and get lost, surrounded by beautiful old trees. Nothing better than writing and exploring the writing process with other writers. Well, I'm biased :) Can't wait to go again! Thank you for your wonderful videos and blogs, Sarra!
I have been, yay!! Group, partner, and alone. I was looking for new tips, and appreciate your suggestions 🙂
I love how you incorporate nutrition suggestions, the tour, the logistics etc into your writing instructional retreat. Those things matter so much with all careers.
That's a beautiful blue chrysocolla stone, known for enhancing prosperity, self expression and intuition. That air bnb is adorable! Thanks for sharing your helpful retreat tips. Congrats on reaching your goals 🙌😊☮️
Wow, HHI!! Love it there 🐞⛳🤸♀🌌 Also, thanks for the tips!!
I truly love this setting, given how much I like ametysts and esoteric scents myself. I should try it sometimes.
I've never been on a writing retreat, but you have inspired me. I should try it!
That was fun to watch - really interesting and such good ideas - I might give this a try myself. Congrats on meeting your goal and having fun, too!
This is a great idea to allow yourself time to concenetrate solely on your writing, minus the distractions of household duties. Isn't it crazy how time fly's by when you're "supposed" to be writing. Tfs!
I love writing retreats. It's always one of the best things I do for myself. There's a nonprofit in Oklahoma that's got some sweet cabins that are $40 a night per person, and they have full kitchens. I also love the Writer's Colony at Dairy Hollow in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. You can get a room for $75 a night, and that includes two meals, your own bedroom and bathroom, and access to a kitchen.
I do crafting retreat with a friend and they are so much fun. A bit like yours with projects to accomplish and just time dedicated
Wow! I would love to go on a retreat - not able to because of work/budget but living vicariously through your videos!
Thank you so much for this inspiring video! Can't wait to see your video on writing in Google docs, since most videos I have watched emphasize Scrivener. I am completely in love with my Chromebook and was excited to hear that you use one too!
Yes! Two friends (authors and my podcasting co-host) have gone on a writing retreat in the Sierra Nevadas. Three days in a secluded cabin where all we had to do was write, brainstorm, and be creative. I look forward to our next one!
That sounds heavenly!!
I want in. Hehehe 💚💙💜
I hope your feeling good! Thnx for the video. ❤️
✋🏼👊🏼😀❤️ Awesome share. I write mostly in my backyard. I will definitely schedule some more away time to focus. Cool crystal and oils. Thank you my friend. Namaste 🙏 ☮️
So excited for another writing-centric video! Thank you. Glad you're back. Congrats on your pregnancy :)
Thank you!
For those on a budget, check camps and retreat centers in your area, especially in the off-season. You may be able to get simple, clean accommodations, meals, and a peaceful environment for less than a typical hotel. My 6-women critique group rents a cabin at a lakeside camp/retreat center about an hour from where we live. We each have our own simply-furnished bedroom with a desk, plus there's a large common living area where we can gather. No kitchen, but a sink and microwave. For meals we walk over to the retreat center's dining hall (meals are included in the cost). On breaks we can walk by the lake or in the woods. It's a great option to check out if there's a similar facility in your area.
It's really cool you bring crystals with you on these retreats! It totally makes sense to bring those since they inspire creativity and focus :)
I'm going on the Wander Writers Retreat this year which will be in Toronto, and I'm so stoked to go with my writer/authortuber friends to come together to work on our books!!
I would love to do something like your private, writing retreats. I need a writing buddy!
I appreciate you sharing your writing retreat experience with us. I am a new author and I would have to agree that this is certainly motivational... Thank you
Love your vibe and vids!!
I would love to go on a writing retreat some day!
I def need real life writers friends (and readers friends) I am alone. LOL
I use newsprint instead of flip chart paper, but I do the same thing!!! I need to SEE my progress somewhere outside my planner to stay focused!
you are so inspiring
Like your home arrangement
New subscriber, love the video! I've never been on a retreat but you make it sound so affordable. I have hope! Lol
It would be really cool to do a larger retreat next year after some of us took your upcoming publishing course. I’ve traveled so much the last few years that I’m cooling my heels this year but would be up for some good travel next year.
I like watching ur vids it helps me a lot thx ❤️
I definitely want to have my own writing retreat.
Looks like fun.
It's cool to see another writer that likes to read tarot cards and love crystals
That looks like blue calcite. Lapis is a lot darker and more opaque.
I should have known you would recognize it! Thank you! I have a lapis pendant and yes it is much darker!
Now I really want to go on a writing retreat. Too bad I can't ever seem to get off work for more than a day.
The blue stone looks like it might be Chrysocolla, Aquamarine, or Blue Calcite.
Thank you!
Any advice on how to find writing groups online for help and critique?
I must be alone for writting. I need total solitude so that i can go inwards into my own mind and dive into the story. I tried having company and creativity/originality just didnt flow. So i isolate myself and write. THEN i need friends, i write horror so when i come out of it i really need positivity.
