PD Simplified | Fuel Octane : What Should You Use?

  • Petrol comes in various octane ratings. Regular petrol is Octane 91, but there are more expensive blends that can be Octane 95, 97, or even 100. However, the higher the octane count, the more expensive petrol gets. So which one do you really need? The answer lies, not in this video, but in your vehicle’s user manual. Be sure to check it to see what octane rating your vehicle needs. Most vehicles sold in India will run just fine on regular pump gas. However, if you have a car/bike with a high compression ratio, it could benefit from an octane rich petrol. In this episode, Shumi simplifies fuel octane ratings and which one should you really use.

      My Polo TSI's fuel cap has mentioned recommended grade of 95 Octane as it is a BS VI petrol engine. Which fuel should I use ? I've tried using Shell regular fuel and HP Power. FYI I'm a novice in driving as it's my first car so I'm not keen in fast performance, all I need is engine refinement.

I don't know whether it actually runs smoother or its just a Placebo effect 😅

      @jakgt500 2 года назад

      Adding 2t oil will not only choke up your exhast but also create sludge and degrade your crankcase lube oil (engine oil). 2 t oil is a cylinder lube oil, in a 4stroke engine your crankcase oil is designed to perform cylinder lubrication duties so in your case you're just screwing up your catalytic converter.

    • @jakgt500

      It has no property by which it controls ignition timing. Ignition delay is purely related to octane number in petrol and cetane number in diesel.

    Thanks shumar sir, you could also add how mixture of E10 impacts the overall combustion with respect to octane
    I'm feeling combustion issues after E10 introduction and a rougher ride than earlier
    P.S. using same engine oil - MOTUL 7100, bike - Yamaha FZs V1

      Motul is now not like it used to be while it came from Vietnam. Better you can switch to power 1 ultimate 10W40 by castrol. Fzs run much smoother on this.

    Hi great video
    I have a question here what’s the base octane of fuel we get in pump and how can we be sure of it

    • @osamaaijaz4055
      @osamaaijaz4055 2 года назад

      Exactly!
      Even if petrol stated 95 octane. I am sure it's in the range 90-93 octane definitely not as per specification in India.

      base fuel is 91. XP95 is 95 octane and XP100 is 100 octane at Indian Oil

      @@osamaaijaz4055 You can ask for test report at pumps or by emailing oil marketing companies. They have test laboratories and they can show exactly what is the octane and cetane number in case of diesel

      @@syedhassanraja649 yes it is minimum. I can tell surely about indian oil as I work here. Earlier there used to be the case of mixing and adulteration but now it doesn't happen as everything is digitalised. If some pump owner tries to mix some other product in tank, their nozzle gets locked.
