fred chet Got to agree Dave C. Is the best...effigy is great and the live I looked up had Dave on the drums and it was sick. You hear him on Malevolent Creation album Eternal? He was only 19 on that album.
Fr, it’s so rhythmically interesting, you’ll hear rhythms and drum/picking patterns that you won’t hear anywhere else in any other genre. Teaches you how to pick out and hear different rhythms too.
My absolute favorite Suffocation drummer! Despise the Sun my fave for a long time. Love all current and former members of thus band! No band has brought me more joy except probably Slayer over the past 20+years... sad to see that DC has left the band again don't know why but best of luck and welcome Kevin Talley!
Jay Bee I met Dave back in the day at a malevolent show such a cool dude and talked to me about drumming like a friend as I drum myself nothing like this beast though. He's the man
Jay Bee Also saw Slayer recently my other favorite man. Wish lombardo was still with Slayer he is my favorite drummer as well. Must be a Dave thing lol
@@fredchet2523 Jesus Why You Are Be A Fucking Fandom of Mike Smith? Showing Dave Is Nothing In Every Comment. We Have Our Own Taste, Our Own Opinion. Don't Be A Douchebag
So glad I was able to catch him for the brief time he was back in Suffo. Told him how much his performance on Despise the Sun meant to me in my early years of finding Death Metal. That album is really important to me, as is all of Suffo's catalogue but that album just hit differently. 🤘🔥🤘
Every suffo drummer was the shit in terms of playing and composition but sweet baby Jesus the way he hits his blast beats is with nothing but raw power and intense brute force... everything from the chops rolls fills and kicks... imo its hard to say if like the earlier stuff or pinnacle and despise the sun more... I just love those blast beats!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing against Mike Smith, but this dude was meant for this band. Despise the Sun is their best album in my opinion, and Mike Smith never played those songs with the same intensity. Obviously, it's hard for someone to play something they learned the same way as the guy who originally played it. But Culross rips on every song they have.
When Effigy of the Forgotten came out, Mike Smith's blast beats and drumming were groundbreaking. No one had faster double bass. His drumming blew my mind then And allowed for the rest of suffocation to play that fast .Mike Smith is due every accolade and he deserves it.
@@errolsullivan2904 Funny thing is kicks are triggered on Effigy, though Mike never used triggers live. It was merely for the ease of mixing fast runs.
I've watched a lot of covers or drum cams with other drummers, Kevin Talley included, of this song. I'm convinced Dave is the only one who plays it right. No missing cymbal notes or anything. Don't get me wrong, most do a great job, especially KT, but the song doesn't have the same sound or feel as when Dave plays it. Their current drummer Eric Morotti plays it next best. Great pick for a replacement.
"I'm convinced Dave is the only one who plays it right" Well he was the one who recorded it (and came with some if not all the drum parts maybe) so it makes sense :)
Dave's one of my all time favorites! Awesome glad hes back w/suffo! His wk w/ Gorgasm and Malevolent Creation fuckin awesome! Oh not to mention Pyrexia! Hellyeah Horns High All Hail Dave Culross!
For me, the best drummer in Suffocation. I don't want to offend anybody, it's just that I love the "Despise the Sun"-EP so f#ckin' much and Dave Culross' style matches the songs just perfectly. I have great respect for Mike Smith, Kevin Talley and Eric Morotti (never checked out Doug Bohn, though). Each of them are exceptional drummers and true beasts. But this guy just takes the cake! \m/

Dave Culross -- the John Bonham of death metal! It sounds like the hammer of the gods when he hits those drums!
This dudes blastbeats were an inspiration to me when I started drumming back in the late 90's...

My favourite drummer. Power, groove, creativity, timing ... he has it all.

I saw Dave on the Fine Art of Murder tour, and with Suffocation after the EP. Awesome.
Holy consistency! I always loved Culross, but I had no idea he hits that hard live. Crusher!

Dave is a beast on drums!!!
damn this guy is a heavy hitter, just like mike

His blastbeat in the left hand is unique, the sticks position seems uncomfortable but solid and tight at the same time.
RESPECT! From Malevolent Creation's Eternal album, this guy kicks asses!
