Reading & Northern 2102: Iron Horse Rambles 2023 (4K)

- In 2022, after a multiyear restoration, the Reading & Northern's #2102 was finally ready to return to the rails after being out of service since 1991. While I had plans to see this locomotive, they fell through every time last year. I also never had a favorable opinion of this locomotive till I saw it, which changed everything. Painted in her Rambles Paint scheme with a Reading & Northern on the Tender 2102 really looked sharp. In 2023 when the Iron Horse Rambles were finally announced, I decided to finally go see the T1 which was all the hype in the North East. This 4-8-4 certainly put on a fantastic show both days. Chasing Saturday July 1st, and Sunday August 12th, I had a successful two days of chasing the T1 on Home Reading Rails for the most part. The engine does live up to the reputation of being the Loudest Operational Steam Locomotive currently. From many locations trackside on the scenic Railroad from Reading to Jim Thorpe, I hope you enjoy my first few chase with the 2102!

The 2102, was originally built as a Reading I-10sa Consolidation Type Steam Locomotive in the 1920s. In the 40s when the Reading Railroad needed a more powerful steam locomotive during the War, the locomotive was rebuild by the Reading Shops into the 4-8-4 T1 4-8-4 Type Steam Locomotive to haul the heavier trains. In the 1960s the engine operated on the Famous Reading Ramble Excursions. Afterwards, she would be sold and operated across the county. In the 1980s Andy Mueller purchased the 2102 and began operating it on his Tourist Railroad, and while she went down in 1991, she grandly returned in 2022!
With nothing currently until the Indiana Fall Colors Train in October with the Nickel Plate Road 765 I currently am enjoying my break for a while. Hoping to finish up the Summer Railfanning video with a few more heritage units that will be released in the near future. I wasn’t sure how lighting would be at the bridge and I had never shot that angle before either. I think it paid off.
