    Sound basically like an open source version of outlook exchange calendar, like the idea

  • @conflikt89
    @conflikt89 4 года назад +9

    Love the enthusiasm for open source! The way I've always resolved this issue though is just to look at the other persons calendar; for meetings internal to my organisation this works pretty well - I just find a free time in their calendar and then send a meeting invitation - no back and forth. This strikes me as though it might only be useful if you have a lot of meetings where you haven't pre-shared your calendars. Idk, it seems like it has a very narrow use case.

    I've always wanted to get into open-source projects but like many, I never knew where to start with the whole thing. I've now forked your repository Kalle and look forward to working on it in the future. I've made damn sure as well to create my own branches and not tamper with the master branch!!

    Wouldn't it be a good idea if you set the initial commits for this project?
    Like the basic django project with all the informations, because otherwise everybody starts their own django project and it will be a huge mess to put this all together later on.
    I would really like to participate and help you with your app, but because of the reason above it's really hard to find a point where to begin.

    The open source community has been advancing modern software and technologies for a long time now. It is a beautiful community to join and devel.
    A lot of OSS projects begin with a single person and you open it for support & improvement until it gains sustainable userbase and funding or it (sadly) becomes deprecated...there are A LOT of great projects that had to pause devel for one reason or another...maintaining a solid, skilled volunteer team(s).

    Thank you for your great introduction. Is there any website or community to help defining a project?
    I have an idea of a project in mind but, before putting my hands on coding, I will like to expose it to other developers to get their input and make a good briefing. Is this normally done in Github too? Any comment on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Sadly most open source projects end up like this one. Github repo shows that it started on March 6 (original owner possibly worked on it prior to that but nonetheless) aaaand it lasted 2 months and there has been no activity on it for 1 month already with 32 open issues. I've been looking for an open source project that interests me that has hopefully started recently to contribute to and grow with it but it's proving to be harder than I thought.

    What about a simple enough app where you can manage the bookings you already have (so you can see which ones you have, which ones are coming up, and then in rare occasions you need to reschedule than you can view that persons account and select from their available slots) or you can't just search for people you need to get the link from them to access their calendar and then and only then can you add them to a sort of friends list

    What if u made it a progressive web app? It would just be adding two files (manifest.json and a service worker) and it would function pretty much like a mobile app. The user would just have to press “add to home screen” and it would look just like another mobile app. Ive done this with Flask, but I’m pretty sure it’s simple on Django also
