"Vogue" is a song by American singer Madonna from her second soundtrack album I'm Breathless (1990). It was released as the first single from the album on March 27, 1990, by Sire Records.
A sadly overlooked gem from Olivia, it had such a different sound and vibe. Very classy! SO glad that you enjoyed it as much as you did!
1978 through 1988 is my favorite ONJ decade! I LOVED Tied Up and was sad it only peaked in the 30s.
This was one of 2 new songs added to her “Greatest Hits Vol 2” which were both released on the charts. The first single was “Heart Attack” which bolted up to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for well over a month! This track fizzled, just barely making the Top 40, stalling at #38!:(. It was and remains my favorite of the 2 tracks released from that album! It’’a also one of my favorite songs from ONJ in the 1980’s, definitely a forgotten classic! It was written by jazz musician, Lee Ritenaur, who recorded it first and there is a demo out there of Stevie Nicks, attempting this track that is simply atrocious! Olivia’s recording is the best of the bunch! I agree with you about Olivia’s free form in this song visually and vocally! The track is great slice of Jazz/Rock infusion, which was very different than what was riding high on the pop charts, around that time! This song , like “Soul Kiss” seemed to sophisticated and slick for pop radio, and that may be the reason why the song did not excel! I like that ONJ just does her thing, dancing, interacting with the band, in the music video! The music video was not played on MTV, if it was, it was very obscure! VH-1 may have played it but VH-1 started two years later in 1985! It was not very common to hear this song or to see this video, back in the day! This was unfortunate that it slipped under the radar! Anyway, it has a great groove and a jazzy vibe! I love ONJ’s breathy delivery which is sexy and harkens back to those vocals from “Make A Move On Me!” Even though “Heart Attack” was the hit and “Tied Up” was the flop, the “Greatest Hots Vol 2” which featured songs from “Totally Hot,” “Xanadu” and “Physical” became the 10th biggest album of 1983! 💕
Olivia could sing the ABC's and make it sound good. Its her energy combined with those vocals! She's magical just like in her other song Magic!
This is my favorite Olivia song and she has been favorite since I was 6, after seeing Grease. I love the production and the vocal on this one. Everything works perfectly.
Loved it the first time I heard it when I was 14 and bought the Greatest Hist Vol 2 album. Should have been a bigger hit. The record store let me buy the poster right off the wall that they had of ONJ of the Greatest Hits Vol 2 album cover. I still have it.
yay! i still have the cassette tape of onj greatest its volume 2!
I love this song. There is just something about ONJ's delivery of these lyrics and she has always been a beautiful woman. There is only one ONJ. I love "No that is not a flute". You crack me up, I love watching your reactions.
Love this song it was one of two new songs recorded for her second Greatest Hits album the other being "Heart Attack". The flute is played by Tom Scott who opened for ONJ during her Physical Tour. The band is also the band used for the same tour. The backing vocals were done by John Farrar if I am not mistaken.
So happy you played this song. Love your reactions as well.
I am so glad that you reacted to this addictive song, Empress! It is definitely in my top five! It’s just so different from the other Olivia songs… I don’t know, I just can’t get enough of it!💗💗
Love this song. I really love the sound that John Farrar gave ONJ recordings from Totally Hot to Soul Kiss
I think Michael was rocking the ONJ jacket. This is from her Greatest Hits Vol 2 album from 1982, and Thriller was 1983. I absolutely LOVE this song! So much better than Heart Attack, which was a Top 5 hit (peaked at #3), while inexplicably, Tied Up died on the charts. Dig in on RUclips, and you can find a Stevie Nicks demo of this song. For crazy flute in a Rock song, listen to anything by Jethro Tull.
'Michael rocking the ONJ jacket' - YES! People forget ONJ was so innovative back in her heyday
Finally!!! You did it!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 One of my favs!!
"Tied Up" makes my day 😊💃💃🏻
yay!
I'm so glad you liked my request! It's very telling you mentioned this song with Have You Never Been Mellow also because they are both in my top five ONJ songs, LOL! You know what else is interesting about those two tracks? Like quite a few other ONJ hits, they were written by the same songwriter. Tied Up was one of two songs they added to her Greatest Hits Vol. 2 album and it didn't chart very high at all but I just loved it...glad you do also!
I thought she said she didn’t want anyone to request Madonna or Olivia songs… I certainly requested one! I haven’t heard anything yet, nor have I heard my March pick! Yes, I hope she reads this!
Thank you for the request!! I love ONJ and this song is great. How do you feel about "Heart Attack"?
@@christopherscorner She changed in April and allows ONJ requests now. What was your March request? It might be in RUclips jail. I couldn't find your request on Patreon.
@@christopherscorner hey Christopher. did you see her note on Patreon? she was still working on April requests a couple of days ago bc of a vacation she took...
Awesome pick! I've been waiting on this one all month since I saw your pick on Patreon. She saved this for last.😊
This is a song that really grew on me upon repeated plays of my cassette of Greatest Hits Volume II (when I was a teen)
Tied Up In promises we could never keep ! Love it!
Haha. Love her hair. I used to rock a hairstyle like that. 😆
One of my fav from ONJ
love this! this is on greatest hits volume 2 of ONJ songs and I wore that tape out growing up...there is not one bad song on that album. they are all amazing!! so excited someone requested it and that you liked it. 😀🥰💜
I loved this song from the Moment I heard it. The band in the video is the band she was touring with at the time. Tom Scott(flute) was the musical director.
Olivia Car Games has her best vocals. Show how beautiful and strong her voice was
You would love "Heart Attack". I haven't heard that song in ages and I don't think I've ever seen any reactor do it. It was a pretty big hit but you never hear it anymore.
Empress did Livin in Desperate Times. Spoiler alert… she loved it!
@@michaeldubin8965 you know you're right. I remember her doing it. But I don't think she's done Heart Attack. I haven't heard Heart Attack from any reactor
ahhh yes! heart attack is definitely one of my faves ❤️
My favorite youtuber! You rock girl! 😍😍😍
Wow‼Thank u❤
Favorite song of hers
🔥🔥
I've always loved this song, even though it is the beginning of the end of her chart history. Oh wait, that's Twist of Fate, her last Top 5.
ONJ giving us some choreography. 🩰🩰. I love all sides of ONJ, but Suddenly and Hopelessly Devoted are up there.
I like Olivia's music better in the 80's with Xanadu ST, Physical, Two of a Kind ST, Soul Kiss, and The Rumor. However, I prefer the cutie pie, slightly shy persona she had in the seventies.
I had the 45 listened to it 1000 times.
One of my top favs! stands the test of time! I always blast this one in the car! Heart Attack is next!
Such a great song. Feel like she was in her natural element here and just having a good time with the band and song. Thank you again empress for representing our Lovely Livvy. Now listen to Boats against the Current from her Totally Hot Album...... PLEASE
Hey Empress! I LOVE this song. I love all speeds of ONJ. I have ONJ playlists of about 80 songs and I just shuffle and play. And it always happens that right after one of her sweet ballads, Heart Attack comes on and I literally jolt and almost have a 'heart attack". HaHa. Come to think of it if no one requests it, I will request Heart Attack for June, just can't decide on the official video or the live 1982 concert performance. 😎
I'm always an advocate of official video first and then live performance. Empress could do both. 😁
Love that Olivia cut loose and had fun with this song. She really got it from Grease...to be a bit more sexy with her performances. 🤗💯🤗
I love this song!! Should have been a bigger hit.
💯🔥
Empress,
You are too fuckin' cool for cute. You are one of my most favorite channels😘
Wow‼Thank u😘😘😘
Just if you're interested - here is a link to a 1980 album by John Farrar, ONJ's longtime songwriter/producer. A year later, Olivia recorded two of the songs on this album (Recovery and Falling) for her Physical album. She had recorded It'll Be Me (which you already reviewed) several years earlier for the Come On Over album, and she later recorded a duet of Reckless with Farrar for one of her duets albums. ruclips.net/video/isUv_rm3EiU/видео.html
I always liked it more than Hesrt Attack. It would have done better.
Sandyyyyyy?
waouh
Don't get me wrong. I love ONJ, she looks beautiful and her voice is as smooth as ever, but her trying to be a tough, sexy girl dancing... nah. I'm getting drunk aunt awkwardly flirting with the band at your cousin's wedding vibes.
Yeah it's like a good girl going off to college, getting her first taste of alcohol, and almost flunking out type of deal.
Honestly I don't remember ever hearing this song. I'm all for originality and everything but I felt that the flute (recorder?) had no place here. The cringey scene watching her humiliate herself with that goofy flautist has left an awkward picture in my mind. It reminded me of a less fortunate time in women's history. I mean no wrong against the girl; I was there too and that time wasn't a great time for us. But this video left a bad taste in my mouth. She had no power in this video.
