If you think Regina was the only artist who was mistaken for Madonna. Listen to Alisha's "Baby Talk" and "Too Turned On. Or " All Night Pasion". All of them in one way or another worked with the same producers or writers. (I think his name was Stephen Bray)That's why they sounded so similar.
This was an original song. The Supremes had a hit back in the '60s with a song with the same title but it is not the same song.Regina sounds incredibly like Madonna. When I first heard this back in 1986 I actually thought it was Madonna. I did not find out that it wasn't Madonna until I went to the record store looking for it and that is when I found out that it was by Regina and not Madonna. The reason why this song sounds like a Madonna song is because Stephen Bray co-wrote this song and he co-wrote a few of Madonna's early hits like "Into the Groove".He also dated Madonna before she became famous. The producers were looking for someone who sounded like Madonna to sing it so they found Regina. Stephen Bray was also part of a band called "Breakfast Club". " "Breakfast Club" was a group that Madonna was in and used to play drums for.She left to form a band called "Emmy and the Emmys" for which Bray became a member of. Bray eventually left "Emmy and the Emmys" to join the "Breakfast Club "group. Soon Madonna's career took off and Bray began focusing on writing and producing for Madonna so he left "Breakfast Club" in order to focus on that. He rejoined the group later after Madonna found success. The group went on to have a couple of minor hits one of their own one of them being "Right on Track" but they are generally considered to be one hit wonders. There a lot of Madonna clones around at that time trying to cash in on Madonna's success and sound.I remember a group called "Candi"(also known as "Candi and the Backbeat"). They were a music group of Italian-Canadians whose lead singer Candita "Candi" Pennella also sounded like Madonna when she sang. They only had a couple of hits in the U.S.: "Under Your Spell' and "Dancing Under a Latin Moon".In both these songs Candi sounds like Madonna ("Under Your Spell" in particular ). Both these songs by Candi I found on RUclips. You can listen and judge for yourself. I liked the group well enough to buy their album because I like these two songs. I did not hold it against its lead singer,Candita "Candi" Pennella, that she sounded like Madonna I just enjoyed their music.

Other songs she and Steve had written were offered to her but Regina doesn’t recall this one. People seem to miss the fact that she co-wrote this and wasn’t just brought in off the street lol. She also had a band (called Regina Richards And Red Hot, who recorded an album) before Madonna was even an established artist, and in fact worked with Madonna on the demos that got her a deal with Sire. Regina is an incredibly talented and versatile artist in her own right (trust me!) and I’m sad this “copycat” thing persists 35 years after the fact. @gerry owen Can you (or someone who knows) explain that to me? Trading songwriting credits? Why not list both as songwriters? Also, could that mean Madonna may have done some initial demo vocals and they were possibly kept as backing vocals when she ultimately turned down the song to have it “sound” like Madonna?
Tom Robinson hey, in the early days Madonna and Stephen bray wrote a lot of songs together but trading credits. Stephen had sole credit on ain’t no big deal in exchange for everybody which Madonna had sole credit. It is possible that she recorded it and they left her backing vocals on it just like ‘each time ‘.

Alisha’s sound was just like Madonna. Check out “Baby Talk” but not before you listen to Madonna’s “Into the Groove”. Side note, Alisha’s track “Too Turned On” is 💯
For some reason your reaction to this 80s banger made me want to recommend Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, I Wonder If I Take You Home I feel like the sound is similar in many ways and you will love it.
there was unfortunately so many knock offs and lawsuits. Rumors was the dirtiest and shadiest lawsuits back then. You should research the knockoffs 🤷🏻♂️😁👍
First time hearing the song i thought it was Madonna. From few comments, Madonna refuse the song & Regina got the song. Not sure why she pass on this one, Very good dance tune, sounds like a song that came out on Madonna 1983 cd. Another good song is Sidewalk Talk by Jellybean featuring Madonna.
I have never heard of this song and artist, but after your reaction and the strong resemblence to Madonna i had to look into this artist. So I listen to her song Hold On and no way does she sound like on this track. I see that Stephen Bray Madonnas producer and childhood friend is a producer and the song was given to Madonna and she recorded a DEMO. Once she rejected the song I got a strong feeling that Regina the writer of the song used sames of Madonnad Demo and recorded parts on her own. Th at Baby Love part has to be Madonna.
Madonna spawned a lot of one named wananbes in the music scene when she hit it big, Every record company was quick to sign the next soundalike singer, Regina was one of them, along with Alisha, Shana, Tia, Myleka and Martika. Even Madonna's backup singer in her first album, Tina B, released an album. Needless to say guess who is still around making music and touring.....
so nobody had last names 😂 and before i started this journey i had only heard a handful of madonna songs, BUT i KNEW who she was. it just seems like i was born with the knowledge of her face😂 but these ladies, never heard of them

You should also check out Donna Allen "Serious" from the same year (1986). I owned the 7" single and I remember they even put the words "The Black Madonna" on the cover. It's actually a really good song that sounds nothing like Madonna.
SHE TRIED IT!!!!😂. BUT SHE SUCCEEDED. The whole song structure, the way she approached it vocally, & the backing vocals. I like the song though. You mos def tell this was for Madonna. Difference is she was in the the words of the Spice Girls a WANNABE.
What’s been so interesting about watching your reactions is having “light bulb moments” when you (and I) realize that (all) music is connected... that a singer, producer, songwriter or a DJ puts something out there and it creates ripples... literally sound waves that reappear in other works. I’ve always loved Madonna, but I’m truly impressed how she developed her “sound” over time, literally building on each collaboration (ahem relationship). Hearing Baby Love by Regina again (I have the CD somewhere) and discovering it was written by Stephen Bray for Madonna is one of those light bulb moments for me. Also seems like Madonna remained on good terms with all her exes.
so true! it's all connected. what's interesting about this, since I know who the songwriter is, i wonder how madonna felt hearing this clone written and produced by her friend who used to have benefits 😂😂 like i would've been done with him then. that's disloyal in my book because what if regina gave her a run for her money, but then from stephen perspective's i understand he needed 💰 too, but then its just still lame 😂
@@EmpressReacts True. I think that’s how most of us would feel. But I’m starting to see that Madonna was driven in a way few people are and I think her confidence was building at this point. Perhaps she understood that a songwriter needs an artist to record their song in order to make coin? And apparently from other comments here it seems Regina not only wrote the song with Stephen Bray with Madonna in mind, she also helped Madonna with harmonizing. So maybe M declined the song and was happy for Regina to record it?? Anyway, I sure would like to know what was going through Madonna’s mind when this song started to take off and then reached #1 on the dance chart...
@@EmpressReacts And the name Regina does mean “Queen” and we all know there can only be one Queen... of Pop... M might’ve had to check her and be like “no more throwaway songs for you bish” 🤣

omg no. Fun Fact this song was written for Madonna and she didn't like it. Regina did all the backing vocals on madonnas demo and doubled her thin voice. She took the song and kept her recording.

wow we're sooo vibin! isn't this the second time some psychic 💩 like this has happened 😂? and wow, she could never get from under that madonna wave she was riding
@@EmpressReacts Madonna fans clamped that down real quick. They felt like the music industry was trying to create another Madonna or find someone to capitalize on the Madonna "sound". The industry do mess like that. Madonna fans said hell to the no. By then, Madonna was huge. She was the Queen of Pop. Regina from no fault of her own never stood a chance. It's tough when someone comes 1st and that person becomes a phenom Babylove is still a great song! ❤Regina I'm sure was talented. There's definitely more to the story. Was it meant for Madonna? It has always been a mystery to me🤔
I thought it was Madonna till few weeks ago
Regina wasn't the only artist back then who was constantly mistaken for Madonna. Listen to Alisha's "Baby Talk" and "Too Turned On".
Regin's "success " wa mainly on the Dance charts. Baby Love" was basically her only crossover hit. She had oth we songs. Beat of Love, Head On, Extraordinary Love...
Gurl. You make my day. Honestly. Thank You. Life is too real right now ... and you honestly make me Happy. 🌈🌈🌈
so glad i can be a source of 🌞
Alisha was another one who took Madonna signature sounds of the time
👀 another one with 1 name❓😂 geez they were really copying! gonna have to give her song a lusten
oh wow! dang
I look AMAZING for 39. I’m not gonna say any different. I Totally ... I hear the MADONNA VOICE. That’s totally MADONNA.
and im totally gona agree with u 💯❤ u look amazing!!
It sounds like a Stephen Bray track.....I think you’re right (like usual) it’s an unused Madonna track
gotta be, right😂
It's "Baby love. Just call it. Baby love. You are my. Baby love.
" I don't blame you. It's a very catchy song. Yes, she sounds a lot like Madonna. It's uncanny and the production on this song is very similar even though it was the 80s.
Alisha’s sound was just like Madonna. Check out “Baby Talk” but not before you listen to Madonna’s “Into the Groove”. Side note, Alisha’s track “Too Turned On” is 💯
🤓noted
For some reason your reaction to this 80s banger made me want to recommend Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, I Wonder If I Take You Home
I feel like the sound is similar in many ways and you will love it.
coool! i'll add it to the list
there was unfortunately so many knock offs and lawsuits. Rumors was the dirtiest and shadiest lawsuits back then. You should research the knockoffs 🤷🏻♂️😁👍
is that a madonna song i haven't heard yet?
Club Neuvueau got the song stolen from Timex Social Club. I don't know much of the details. Big HIT 1986
I bought the 12' remix of Baby Love cause I liked the Stephen Bray production. But I've lost the record 😔
s/o regina 😂
Come to think of it, there's only one M. But you might appreciate The Bangles, Bana narama, and the Go Go's, 80's girl rock groups.
thanx for the recommendations ✅
I forgot about this song!
🔥
First time hearing the song i thought it was Madonna. From few comments, Madonna refuse the song & Regina got the song. Not sure why she pass on this one, Very good dance tune, sounds like a song that came out on Madonna 1983 cd. Another good song is Sidewalk Talk by Jellybean featuring Madonna.
agree! i also heard sidewalk talk. check out my reaction: ruclips.net/video/LM5MwKyzidA/видео.html
Th at Baby Love part has to be Madonna.
interesting!!!
Needless to say guess who is still around making music and touring.....
so nobody had last names 😂 and before i started this journey i had only heard a handful of madonna songs, BUT i KNEW who she was. it just seems like i was born with the knowledge of her face😂 but these ladies, never heard of them
@@EmpressReacts , at the time Madonna was wearing her Boy Toy belt buckle and Tia, one of her imitators, actually have a single called "Boy Toy". Shana, on the other hand, even dressed like Madonna (although a bit more covered up). I mean, how obvious can you get? Only Alisha and Martika have some level of success that showed they are more than just Madonna wannabe singers.
@@PungiFungi 🤣wow! this is tew much
Jeez, same tone of voice forsure
💯
Awwwwww Aaliyah 😭 “Are You That Somebody” is a tuuuuune!! Sleep, sleep, sleep 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 There will never be another!! 😇 OMG this was giving me major “Think Of Me” vibes 😲... I have a funny feeling that Dannii Minogue covered this song or sampled it very early on in her music career!?!? I may be wrong? This is a bop though 🤣🤣🤣
Madonna's gave Dannii permission to sample Into The Groove. Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling, I think that's the name of the song.
@@p6833 Oh yessss I absolutely loved “Don’t Wanna Lose This Feeling” and the Madonna sample version “Don’t Wanna Lose This Groove” 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️❤️❤️ Amazing song! But Dannii defo cover or sampled Baby Love I’m certain of it... I think it was on an album from the early nineties but may be wrong!??
Ian Blake - not sure myself, but if you find out let me know😄
RIP Aaliyah🙏 and i gotta hear Kylie's sister version 😂😂
@@EmpressReacts managed to find it... I thought she had covered it but couldn’t be certain ruclips.net/video/AJSwmFUFBNE/видео.html
You should also check out Donna Allen "Serious" from the same year (1986). I owned the 7" single and I remember they even put the words "The Black Madonna" on the cover.
It's actually a really good song that sounds nothing like Madonna.
"the black madonna"😂 yeah i def gotta hear this
Have you listened to Elisa Fiorillo "Who found who" produced by Jellybean
Gina was a boss on this track ❤️
💯💯
Better voice than Madonna's, we are not deaf.
😂
Don’t shade the Queen!
Regina gets a pass. This song is awesome. Loved it in 1986 and love it now. Especially the extended version.
💯🔥
Shows you can have the song, the writers, the production etc but if you don't have IT, it ain't gonna work.
true! true! true! but i would've slipped regina some 💲 for this single 😂 its 🔥
This was the Madonna wannabe but she could sing
SHE TRIED IT!!!!😂. BUT SHE SUCCEEDED. The whole song structure, the way she approached it vocally, & the backing vocals. I like the song though. You mos def tell this was for Madonna. Difference is she was in the the words of the Spice Girls a WANNABE.
To be fair, Regina does have songwriting credit with Stephan Bray. And this was a #1 dance hit.
@@tomrobinsondc I said that I liked it!!
😂😂she might've ate madonna on this! kinda how desiigner ate future on panda😂 dang he's a 1 hit wonder too🙄😂
@@EmpressReacts yeah just like him Regina got one plate and got excused from the table, the kiddie table at that

one of the many who tried to copy the early Madonna sound... :)
Def before aaliyah lol timbaland must like this track or sumthin
😂 right! but i could see this being a bop that stuck in his mind. when i looked up the chart history this was on the r&b charts too
That's a Madonna-sounding song sans Madonna! Thought it was her all these years.
wow! i can see how 💯
What’s been so interesting about watching your reactions is having “light bulb moments” when you (and I) realize that (all) music is connected... that a singer, producer, songwriter or a DJ puts something out there and it creates ripples... literally sound waves that reappear in other works.
Regina had another song that I really liked too Extraordinary Love I think it's called. The remix was so good.
so true! it's all connected. what's interesting about this, since I know who the songwriter is, i wonder how madonna felt hearing this clone written and produced by her friend who used to have benefits 😂😂 like i would've been done with him then. that's disloyal in my book because what if regina gave her a run for her money, but then from stephen perspective's i understand he needed 💰 too, but then its just still lame 😂
@@tomrobinsondc right, did she feel like regina was a threat for a short time? 🤣 we'll never know. 💯
@@EmpressReacts And the name Regina does mean “Queen” and we all know there can only be one Queen... of Pop... M might’ve had to check her and be like “no more throwaway songs for you bish” 🤣
I remember this “cute” single. Regina was the Madonna rip off artist. She must have analyzed Madonna’s vocal styling and sound. One hit wonder. Great pop song.
yeah its 🔥
omg no. Fun Fact this song was written for Madonna and she didn't like it. Regina did all the backing vocals on madonnas demo and doubled her thin voice. She took the song and kept her recording.
This isn't the Queen of Pop! For sure a throw away track from her that most likely would have charted just like this song. Empress this shows you the influence Madonna had made on the industry even at this point in her career.
i see💯
Dannii Minogue’s cover was better
wow, now i gotta checkout kylie's lil sis😂✅
@@EmpressReacts Dannii is an amazing artist in her own right, did you know she was actually famous in Australia before Kylie? For a long time Kylie was knows as Dannii’s sister, not the other way around
@@danielhennessey4282 🤯🤯🤯 what really?! 🤣 now i def gotta do a kylie journey. No clue
@@EmpressReacts yeah Dannii was the most popular member of a TV show called Young Talent Time in the 80’s was kind of an Aussie Mickey Mouse Club thing. She used to bring Kylie on it as a guest sometimes, they are on RUclips. They did Sisters Are Doing it For Themselves. Dannii used to do Madonna songs all the time on it. She was actually one of the first celebs to have a clothing line, she was just a teenager. Then Kylie got on Neighbours and her star started to rise and she started singing and eclipsed Dannii, it was really right place right time, I always thought Dannii had a better voice and stage presence back then. The press used to call Kylie the singing budgie back then haha.
A couple of years back they did a duet of The Winner Takes it All, and also the Christmas song 1000 degrees, it’s hard to tell who is who they sound so similar now.
@@EmpressReacts ruclips.net/video/HDZjaIqQ824/видео.html
I don't think she should of done this song in the style of madonna. She has a good voice but get your own style
she was just trying to ride the wave😂
There's some 80s madonna wannabes I like (Alisha and Stacie Q) but I could never get into this song tbh 😕
😂 dang u not feeling "baby looove"😂
I love this song! Still on my best songs to jam to. Also around the time Madonna released Into The Groove, another artist, Alisha, did a song called Baby Talk. The entire song sampled Madonna's Into The Groove. Or was it the other way around, I can't remember. You should listen to both and tell us which gets you Into The Groove (hint, hint)
Turns out Shep Pettibone produced both tracks... he’s legit big time. Another light bulb 💡
@@tomrobinsondc - truly! My most fave remixes of his are Stacy Q's Don't Make A Fool of Yourself, and Janet's Miss You Much.
dang the girls were coming for mAdonna😂 im def adding baby talk to the list✅
@@EmpressReacts - Yay! I know you run the show, Boss, but it would be interesting if you reacted to both videos/songs in one reaction video. If I've stepped out of line, please put me in my place.
Regina has her own voice. Madonna turned this song down if I’m not mistaken.
Very much a copy of madonna. Kmart special
dang regina😂😂
