Thanks for this truly honest reveiw. I am happy to say they have gained a new customer here in Philadelphia! Having their fulfillment center right in Hanover Township means fast delivery and exchanges. The service is great and, yes, Mike the owner is from Boston where they operate out of. As the company is still fairly new and growing, I hope they eventually can get their own shop and have their outstanding designs fabricated here in the US. I still want to support this young, American entrepreneur and help grow his business. Love everything I have bought so far.
I have mixed feelings on BSC, there are definitely pros and cons: Pros: 1) lots of styles and color variety. Many of the caps have a design embroidered on the back like a shamrock, or a compass rose. Also each series has a different design heat sealed onto the liner inside. They do a nice job of combining traditional styles with a modern twist. 2) Quality (for being made in China). The quality is overall pretty nice across the board for the most part. Above average for something made in China anyways. 3) Customer Service. They’re very fast about responding to emails, at least in my experience. Even on weekends. They’re return policy is also said to be excellent, though I can’t testify to it as I haven’t had to return one yet. Now for the cons 1) The price is high for something made in China. Discount codes are readily available out there but it basically just offsets shipping. I would guess each hat probably costs between $12-$15 to make in China. If they’re selling them for $50 each, then their gross profit margin per hat is 70% or more. They’re making a killing on these things. 2) Sizing inconsistencies-as I mentioned, I haven’t had to return one yet but these seem to be mass produced so they don’t all fit the same from one size and style to the next. Variance has been pretty minor for me though at least. It’s similar to the sizing inconsistencies with New Era 5950 hats. You might have five hats all size 7 1/4 but they don’t fit the same. 3)They charge for shipping and use USPS - for $50 a pop, I feel shipping should be included! They also use USPS which is extraordinarily slow, especially these days with budget cuts and Covid. Conclusion: I have been a loyal Hanna of Donnegal customer for years. They’re pricing is a little higher than BSC (+$25-$35 in some cases) but you receive an heirloom quality hat every time, that’s hand made to size in Ireland. Not to mention that their sizing guide is spot on! I own about 20 different Hanna caps and every single one of them fits as it should. All are size medium which is what their sizing guide suggests for my head size. The attention to detail is flawless, and they ship via UPS 3 day select from Ireland. You even receive a hand written thank you note from the owners and a free face mask these days in a well packaged gift box. Shipping is also included at no extra charge. So to make a long story short, I really do like what BSC is doing by combining traditional styles with a modern twist. Their stuff is honestly pretty nice, and it’s unique. customer service is good, and I think many of their releases look great; they just shouldn’t cost as much as they do for being made in China. If they were about $15-$20 cheaper, I would own a lot more of them. Hanna has been around for decades. Although you can expect to pay $75-$85 per hat, they’re pretty much the cream of the crop of you really want to feel like you’re getting your money’s worth at this price level. I hope this helps anyone who might be on the fence.
Their office is in Mass. Look on their site. It's designed in USA just made in PRC. Doesn't matter to me as I love all their caps. I just got the shamrock and I love it! I get so many compliments from these caps and also for the pins. I receive them in like a day or two and Mike is very cool! He is from Boston
I have the boondock in black. I love it. It says veritas aequitas which means truth, justice and the black shamrock is the only complaint because you can't see it. I wish it were in the green like the underneath brim. Overall it's a very nice, warm, good looking cap. They also have it in green and grey I believe. I will be buying more from them. I'd like to get a summer cap as the wool is too warm for summer and maybe another Irish themed but different style. I also got the all heart pin, which I love and am waiting for 2 more pins now. I love their caps.
That scrapper looks well on you. Thank you for the review bc i too am looking at getting one. Thanks again for the other suggestion with the hanna hat co. 🙏🏾
The brown one is a six panel duck bill. The other is a ivy cap. If it has eight panels it’s usually a newsboy cap. These are the most used names but they will go by other names. I like ivy flat caps myself.
#1. As soon as you order they send an email saying "Great News Your order has shipped, here is your tracking #". It took three to four days for it to ship. When I asked they stated it was the USPS. IT WAS NOT! USPS showed they picked it up four days later. #2. When it arrived and I opened it up, it was like a crinkled up ball of material. Horrible. #3. The color was WAY OFF. I was supposed to get the light green peaky hat. It was dark dark green. They blamed my computer that it doesnt always look the same on computers. BS!!!!! #4 I looked under the hat rim and it was all excess material loose and strains everywhere. GARBAGE! #5 Odd head shape like the guy in the video said. #6 They charge you to ship and return. I returned mine. I asked for the shipping back. Nothing. I will pay to take them to small claims just to get my $15-18 back just to prove a point. I think Mike Arone is full of himself and thinks he is Rocky. He portrays that he was a ppor kid having to go through garbage as a kid just to have a bike. Funny ... he went to Sacret Heart in Fairfield which is only $68,000/year. He thinks he is a Southie when he grew up in Waltham. A far cry from Southie. CON MAN. Thank you for being honest man on these. Telling the truth about them. Guess I'm a sucker since I really thought they were at least made in Boston haha. Still pricey for Chinese but they are nice.

I've read that if you wet the cap...or maybe just the back part of the cap, and then throw it in the dryer....it will then shrink just a bit and make that too-large cap just a bit more comfortable. Good luck.
It’s called fulfillment. That’s why they are shipped out of PA. And 90% of everything you have in your home is made in China. I love Boston Scally. LOVE my Scrapper, and the Black Rose.
A correspondence from them states that each style has slightly different sizing to be able to accommodate a larger number of customers. A small in one style will vary smaller or larger than a small in another style.
Company is a scam! Do not waste your money. The product is so bad you will be sorely disappointed and your wallet will be lighter. The return process does not refund you the full amount of all charges(illegal misrepresentation of product and purchase agreement) and on top of that they bill you, yes you heard me right, they bill you $8.95. You end up losing more than 25% of your original amount spent, then you may or may not be lucky enough to even recover that, as deliveries to the company seem to fail when it is your order you don’t have a phone number to call them and speak directly with anyone. Seriously STAY AWAY!
Boston Scally outsources to PRC “People Republic of China”. For $50 Id rather purchase a Mucros Weavers or Aran flat cap straight from Ireland. I get my scally caps on ‘weaversofireland’. From the SOURCE☘️
@@Judge_Jon I held out for their restock of the Black Rose hat. Glad I did, this hat is excellent. I have a massive head and I bought the XL. It fits solid and doesn't slip, but isn't too tight.
