- This video is about comet Hale-Bopp. The comet's orbit and its appearance in 1997 are clearly shown.
In 1997, I observed this comet, like many other people around the world. This was the moment when, without having any special devices, without going to a desert at a certain time, but simply standing at night in a lighted city square and raising your eyes to the sky, you could see a bright astronomical phenomenon for many weeks. And one person very close to me, inspired by this comet, wrote such a poem:

Like a funny sunlight spot,
Like a feather shuttlecock,
Comet passes through the space.
I can see it from terrace.
Now I'm running to the square.
Adults, children gathered there.
Though it's night, but how to sleep?
And from arguing how to keep?
Will the comet once return?
Will it melt? In what will turn?
Kids are waiting for reply:
Who can see it in the sky?
All the countries? It can't be!
Really so far? Disagree!
Is it summer on the 'guest'?
Frozen rock, like Everest!
Why the tail? And what is after?
Questions, answers... Screams and laughter...
Oh the comet! What a speed!
Sun can't keep you close, indeed!
It's so good that at least once
You have flashed your tail at us.

The calculations took into account the mutual influence of the Sun, all the planets of the Solar System, the Moon and the comet on each other. Relativistic effects were also taken into account in the calculation. Non-gravitational effects associated with the comet nucleus matter evaporation were not taken into account.

Thanks for this! Hale-Bopp was such a huge event at the time and was one of the first big internet events because of all the sites that sprang up showing you where to find. You didn’t really need them because at its brightest it was so prominent, I was living in Belfast at the time in the final weeks of my undergraduate course and even from the middle of the city you could see it so clearly. Hopeful we won’t have to wait 2,500 years to see another bright comet!
I only got Internet access for the first time in 2003. I found out about the comet on TV. It was clearly visible even in the city. Unfortunately, there was no way for me to get out of the city. I can imagine how brightly it shone outside the city!

I get quite emotional thinking back to this.
I was 15 at the time and myself and mum got up during the early hours to witness this special event.
I was at an age when the future was exciting and knew then how it was a wonderful time. It was the dawn of modern times and internet and a new millennium.
My mum passed 2018 but thinking about this wonderful event unbelievably now 27 years ago fills me with lovely memories and i know that my mum and dad now in heaven are looking down on me and seeing all the wonders of space and time.
Thank you! It was my mother who aroused my interest in astronomy. A year and a half ago, I started hosting this channel and creating these videos. Unfortunately, my mom left this world less than 4 months ago. I hope RUclips is not banned in heaven and she can continue to watch my videos there. I was 11 when Hale Bopp flew by earth. My dad took me into the garden at my parents then house, where I looked up at the dark March sky and saw the comet, which I remember distinctively looked like a sticker in the sky and so crystal clear. It was like a beacon of the 1990s, a light of hope and of the future. I'll never forget that night. We miss you, Hale Bopp!!

Автор, не поверишь, сижу вдруг вспомнил эту самую комету, давай юзать по описанию: комета в 90-х, нашёл название, захотелось увидеть видео, давай юзать ютуб, роликов не много, оригинальные вообще плохого качества, и решил посмотреть этот ролик, с научным подходом (мне на тот момент было 13 лет, сейчас 39), и что я вижу: мелодия которую мы толпой играли на гитаре, до сих пор помню аккорды), в конце узнаю, что автор ещё коды пишет 🤦♂️ то есть создаёт программу расчётную, что бы до нас донести, это ж какой труд 😢 . Сама прога, создание ролика, монтаж, музыка. Честно поднастольгировал от души. Сейчас хобби - космос, и те самые интересные факты о комете просто завораживает, рад что застал такой событие которое происходит "никогда " по нашим человеческим меркам 😅 респект автору 🙌🏻
Спасибо! Мне примерно столько же было, когда эта комета пролетала рядом. Мы с вами практически ровесники. Если читали описание к видео, там ещё и стихотворение есть, придуманное близким мне человеком, как раз об этой комете. Очень рад, что моё научное видео смогло вызвать столько эмоций. Я стараюсь делать акцент на красивой визуализации астрономических процессов. Тщательно подбираю подходящую музыку. Хотя такой формат контента почему-то нравится очень немногим. Не совсем понял про мелодию. Вы вспоминаете аккорды. Вы играли на гитаре похожую мелодию? Трек, который звучит в этом видео довольно свежий: 2022 года. Название трека и автор тоже указаны в описании к видео.

Спасибо, что поделились воспоминаниями. Её хорошо было видно даже в центре города! Правда жил я в небольшом городке, и был конец девяностых. Улицы были освещены не так сильно.

От момента когда я случайно заметил яркое пятно на северной стороне неба , потом полное раскрытие кометы и пока она полностью не исчезла прошло около 6 месяцев. Впечятляющее зрелище.
Да и у неё было три хвоста , один огромный с изгибом и два хвоста - прямые тонкие лучи , уходящие в другом направлении от большого хвоста.

I remember this comet so much. I was 20 at the time it passed by the earth and we used to kick back in the afternoons before sunset it would be visible for a long time. Maybe 8 months after and the comet still was visible without the help of anything just your bare sight.
I also remember the pass of the halley on 86 , i was 9 at the time , but i have more memories of the Hale bopp as one of the best comets ever since 1997.
@@Bacon7666 And I haven't seen any other comets except Hale-Bopp. I had no luck with them. And finally, last weekend I saw a comet! And it was the Tsuchinshan-ATLAS. But of course it certainly was not as bright as Hale-Bopp. Thank you!
@AstroTubo too disappointed that the comet was even classified as a sun grazer.
But from our parents that were kids or teens during the 60s they have great memories of a sunngrazer such as the 1965 Ikeya seki comet.
when they made comparisons between Hale Bopp and Ikeya they can recall that Ikeya is the winner.
Bright, super long and obviously seen with only your bare eyes 👀 as if the gods did some kind of painting in the sky.
@@Bacon7666 C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is not a sungrazer. This is an ordinary comet, quite bright. It was discovered in 2023. I made a video about it in June 2024. And right now it is visible now in the evening. But I repeat, this is not a sungrazer. More recently, at the end of September, ANOTHER comet was discovered: C/2024 S1 (ATLAS). This is one of the sungrazers (see the last of my videos). The second comet has almost the same orbit as Ikeya-Seki. And if it doesn't break up soon, then at the end of October it may become very bright. Initially, I estimated that it could be ten times brighter than the Moon. According to the updated data, it will be only ten times brighter than Venus. But there is a risk that it is already disintegrating, then we may not see it at all.

Думаете, если бы комета Хейла-Боппа опоздала на три месяца, она бы врезалась в Юпитер? Честно говоря, я и сам пока не знаю. Мне нужно сделать расчёты. А я их пока ещё не сделал. Так что, я и сам пока заинтригован, не меньше вас! Но я обязательно сделаю расчёты. Пожалуйста, наберитесь терпения.

@@Katty2104 На самом деле она летела со скоростью 70 км/с относительно Земли. Это очень быстро. Но с расстояния 200 миллионов километров это движение очень сложно заметить.

I was in school when the comet was clearly visible even in the city. Have you tried to observe it with binoculars or a telescope?
@@AstroTubo did not. Didn't need to since it was so prominent in the evenings in the northwest skies. Did u notice the velocity in the beginning at approx 7km per sec then accelarte to 70km per sec near Jupiter as it's trajectory was pulled by the big planet? Here in Texas, we're ready for totality next Monday regarding the solar eclipse.
Jupiter has certainly changed the orbit of the comet. But the main contribution to the change in the speed of the comet was made by the Sun, not Jupiter. The closer a comet is to the Sun, the higher its velocity relative to the Sun. From 03:25 to 03:54, the trajectory of the comet and its velocity are shown not relative to the Sun, but relative to the Earth. Therefore, it seemed to you that there was a sharp jump in speed (70 km/s). The maximum velocity of the comet relative to the Sun was 44 km/s. Indeed, I could make a video about comet NEOWISE. Although it was still not as bright as the Hale-Bopp comet. Thanks for the idea for one of the following videos! Looking at the comet, I saw the glowing nucleus and a solid hint of a tail. But if I looked away and used my peripheral vision (which picks up light variations better), the tail stretched practically across the sky.
Hopefully Jupiter doesn't completely goof up its orbit when it comes back.

@johnmasson6645 there was no UFO, it turned out to be a faint 9th mag star, but the havens gate thought it had been a space ship. Their star software did not identify the star was because of incorrect prefriences. Astronomer Alan Hale comfirem that it was not a UFO, and thank God. No need to worry, no UFO. Lucky. 😊

Эта комета висела неделю в моём окне на кухне, была зима,небо чистое,я только из роддома приехала с новорожденной дочкой, было начало февраля,было четко видно комету невооружённым глазом.97-й год.Тогда я даже не знала названия кометы, только недавно узнала, очень красивое название.Я неделю тогда мучалась,не знала,как назвать дочь,вся родня со своими вариантами лезла,в итоге назвала сама,Вероника.Если бы мне было тогда известно название этой кометы, клянусь,назвала бы её Хейла!!!Она же родилась под ней.Да и имя красивое так-то.Ну я думаю, это фамилия откывателя этой кометы,ну и что, красиво же!!!

Одну из них - комету Понса-Брукса - ждали 70 лет. Другая Цзыцзыньшань-ATLAS. Это её, возможно, первое появление. Названия этих комет совсем не подходят для имени ребёнка. Да и не станут эти кометы такими же яркими, как комета Хейла-Боппа.

Вернётся. Её скорость не превысила третью космическую. Более того, Юпитер немного снизил её скорость относительно Солнца, скруглил её орбиту, и период её обращения вокруг Солнца уменьшился с 4200 до 2400 лет.

Я помню эту комету, мне было 14 лет, я видел ее всю ночь в окно своей комнаты, на севере, северо-западе. Она была огромная и яркая. Это единственная комета которую я видела в жизни.
А мне 12 было. Видел её по вечерам в северо-западном направлении по вечерам. Из-за огней города казалось, что она небольшая. Скорее всего я видел только самую яркую её часть.
Я не могу понять, почему она за такое время полёта не исчезает? Ведь она сгорает. Какие размеры на самом деле у них?
Сгорает незначительная часть: лишь верхний слой поверхности ядра. И поэтому вещество хвоста кометы чрезвычайно разрежено. Лабораторный вакуум гораздо плотнее. Хвост кометы - это видимо "ничто". Размеры ядра кометы Хейла-Боппа оцениваются в несколько десятков километров.

Самая яркая комета
Только очень интересно, если наша планета вращается, почему эту комету было видно днем и ночью примерно в одном положении 😮😱
1. Если вы имели в виду вращение Земли вокруг оси. Комета пролетала на расстоянии 197 млн км от Земли. Суточный параллакс кометы, находящейся на таком расстоянии, был незначительный, в таком масштабе он не был бы заметен.
2. Если вы имели в виду вращение Земли вокруг Солнца. Опять же из-за большого расстояния до него комета очень медленно смещалась на фоне звёзд. И поэтому, несмотря на движение кометы по своей орбите и движение Земли по своей орбите, казалось, что она почти не смещается на протяжении многих дней. Но смещение было. И в этом видео оно показывается с 3:25 по 3:53.
