YES!! VINTAGE IRON!!!
I agree it’s nice to see the old combines out making passes!!
My Fav was the UNI picker.
Why when I was young and we started out a farm it was our second picker!!! The first was a pull behind Case 2 row. That Case I had to walk behind and pick up the ears that didn’t make it into the wagon!!!
I hated that piece of junk!!!
With the UNI I road on it and it was a dream!!! Of corse I didn’t get to use it much because dad bought a JD 200 attached two row picker Sheller for the A and that was my baby!!! It was fine as long as I didn’t have to walk in the snow anymore!!!
Very cool history. J.i Case corn heads have a reputation for knocking ears off.
They did!!! Trust me they did!!!
Ya that’s our uni my dad bought like 7 years ago we really like the thing it’s been great for us a lot more efficient than the tractor mounted
I'm glad you included the Ford 642. We owned 2 of them. My dad also had a JD 4420. Thanks for the video!
I had no idea that Ford made a combine. That blew me away.
If I'm not mistaken the ford was actually a rebranded claas machine.
It was made by Claas. The outside was painted Ford blue and the inside was Claas green.
That would be some interesting reading. So, Claas has been around longer than I realized, and Claas has been exporting their equipment here for years. I thought that Claas just came to the US within a few years ago? The story is getting more interesting.
Ford 642 was Made by claas.. or i'm wrong?
That last combine looked especially well looked after in terms of maintenance and neatness ;-)
I LOVE combines, old and new.
Thank you all for showcasing some of our most beautiful and awesome combines!
Thank you for watching. It’s fun getting to film these classics doing what they do best.
@@bigtractorpower, it really means a great deal to me, just to see these beauties, still afield, as opposed to rusting away in abandonment or beating each others' walkers out, in those morbid derbies.
We run mostly pre 90’s equipment. Keeps a farm in the green when times are tight.
😁👍👍
I think that's the smart way too farm. If you take care of your equipment why go in debt for something newer.
Whaoo that old Ford is awesome, it sounds like a Spitfire aircraft, talk of a classic, thanks BTP
Ford 642 was Made by claas????
Juana Flores
Yes, manufactured in Germany by Claas.
@@martyhitchcock "Ford 640, 642" were actually Class Mercators.
@@combinelover8988 Claas Dominator.
In my opinion, you omitted the best combine ever made for medium size farms and that's the John Deere 7720. I put 4,000 hours on one harvesting milo and wheat. It was always a joy to operate. I installed a Dickey John grain loss monitor on it and that allowed me to push it. I could cut 5500 pound per acre milo (if it was 14% moisture), at 4 mph with a 20 foot header. On long rows, a Big 12 grain cart operator could hardly keep up with me when conditions were right. Thanks for the great video and the memories it generated.
The 7720 is one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately I did not get to film one in 2019.
Great video! Love the John Deere combines. I like the Ford combine, my dad had a 1962, or a 1963, Ford combine. Enjoy seeing all of the older combines still operating. Thanks for sharing!
BTP thanks for including the Ford. We ran two 642's and a Claas Dominator 76. I could close my eyes and see my dad once more up in that combine with me riding up on the engine cover shooting rabbits. Great memories.
Very cool. I grew up near an all Ford farm that had a 640. I was very excited to get to see this 642 in action. The farm in this video has three 642s and a Dominator 76. I plan to go back to film more.
Still running a 6620 in corn and soybeans, ran without a single issue this past fall. Probably one of the best combines around. I also ran an MF 860 for a friend one year and it was also very impressive.
Didn't realize the 4420 still had the old style unload auger. Learn something every day. Those old TR New Hollands just about broke the insure companies here in Saskatchewan with their poor rock trap system. Lol. I'd love to see a rare MF 865 in action. Outstanding vid!
379insk we bought a last-year 4400 that had manual fold auger. The next year 4420 had the same auger but added a hydraulic cylinder. I think that you still had to latch it manually in the out position. I love these memories!
An 865 or 855 would be an awesome find.
My childhood was spent riding in the 860 Masseys we had, they will always hold a special place in my life. I bought a Massey 300 this past year, and put it to work for a couple local guys.
This is why BTP is the best channel on all of youtube. You don't forget the old stuff. Love it and thanks.
Great video!
I really enjoyed seeing the New Idea uni system. We had one on our farm as a kid, and I still remember my dad switching the implements on it. As soon as I heard the exhaust note, I immediately remembered to forge harvesting with it. I haven’t heard that sound in 24 years, I didn’t expect to ever hear it again. Thank you so much.
I would love to see more Heston or Ford content since you asked. Thanks!
Great history. Thank you for sharing.
I have ran a 1420 for 25 years, a very simple machine that I can fix. Needing more capacity for beans I also purchased a 915 with rear assist and a 1020 bean head. Ran both this year, beans only and didn't have any in the snow. Thanks for the video.
A 915 is a cool combine. My neighbor had one one when I was growing up. I sure would like to film one.
You sure know how to make a video that is enjoyable to watch. Not a bunch of goofy music just the sounds of the machinery. I'm 65 and I remember all the way from a Case A-6 with a Wisconsin V4 up to a JD 9600.
Thank you for watching. I think the best music is the sound of the engine and the machine at work. 😁. Thank you for watching.
Love watching your videos. Like to see older equipment working in the field
The FORD was very unique because I had never seen one in our country.
Even more unique was the PTO shaft above the unloading auger.
Great Video
Claas built Ford combines from 1966-1979. The model in this video is a ‘79.
The John Deere 44XX and 66XX remind me of my childhood. We had a 6600 for years and I see an old one that doesn't run anymore occasionally when I go to a certain town. We are a John Deere family but our last 2 combines have been from Case IH. I enjoy seeing all of them.
I doubt you would ever find them any more but I would love to see some old Masseys. First combine I ever operated as a kid was a Massey Harris 90 special w/o a cab. Later added a Massey Ferguson 410 and kept the 90 special. Next moved up to a Massey 750 then an 850 and then into John Deeres. The 90 special and the 410 were both gasoline combines. It was quite a change with the diesel MF750 as it seemed like a big leap in power. Way back I remember going to the bulk fuel dealer with my dad and getting 55 gallon drums in the back of the truck filled for harvest fuel. I don't remember how long a 55 gallon drum lasted but it was at least a day if not longer.
Thanks for the memory rush BTP - I could even smell the grain dust coming out the back of the combines. I love the smell of harvest.
I got to film a Massey Harris Clipper this year. You never know what may turn up. I am always looking.
That Gleaner L3!! Love me some old school Gleaners. I wanna see an N6 or N7 on BTP if possible.
Neat video of old school iron
Me too. An N6 or N7 would be an awesome find. Or an N5.
what beautiful combines they are .... each and every with their own story . Have a nice day
Thank you for watching.
my favorite 80's combine was the MF 860 my Dad had two of them. They were bullet proof.
Very cool.
I ran one one wheat harvest they were very impressive.
I now own the 4420 in this video. Bought it late spring 2020. It's a very nice machine. Been very well taken care of. Didn't run it in 20 but can't wait to get in in the corn field in 21.
Would love to see more vintage Gleaner. Especially the N series.
Always more vintage Gleaner!
I'm still waiting on BTP come for a ride in my Gleaner R-40 down in TN
Very nice videos love seeing the older equipment .. keep them coming . Thank you .
that Ford 642 was a rare find , no one had Ford combines in our area of west central Illinois back in the day and it was nice hearing one and seeing it run Thanks !
To see a Ford 642 in the field today is rare. There were only 2011 642s built from 1972-1979. The one in this video was serial number 2008.
@@bigtractorpower wow I had no idea
BTP, good group of combines. I'd love to see a JD 105, IH 915, Gleaner F2, Massey 510. I'm sure you would too. We had a JD 45EB and a Massey 410. Never forget the sound of those machines. And no air conditioning!
Yes I want to see all those. A 105 and a 915 would be too on my list. A 510 may be possible. I know a person who owns one. Did you raise kidney beans? My neighbor had a 95EB when I was a kid. He raised red kidney beans. Then he went to a John Deere 6600 for grain and a Bidwell Combine for the kidney beans.
Our farm is about 40 miles west of Terre Haute, and we grew corn, soybeans, and wheat.
The 4420 is probably my favorite of this lineup. I have a 4400 that I've used for years to harvest everything from wheat to safflower to corn. Great combine just has 4000 hrs on it and is time to retire it. Come to Colorado in September and I'll show you my Grandfather's 1960 John Deere 55 harvesting windrowed pinto beans. He bought it new. Also have an N6 gleaner with a 30ft head I'm looking forward to using in wheat harvest come July. I also have an allis chalmers 60 and a john deere 11a. I love old combines.
Wow what great combines. Very cool. Drop me an email if you have a chance at contact@bigtractorpower.com
Wife's uncle had a 4420, he bought it new. It never left the farm until after he died. It sold at the farm Auction in 2014. He had used it every year, and always did a good job for him.
Great history. Thank you for sharing.
Love the 4420 but I’ve gotta say the ford and old JI Case are quite rare finds. Honestly I hope to see a Massey-Harris one day if I could pick one. Great video!!
Not a real Deere fan but the 6620 was sweet. Really glad someone gets out and does this, I enjoy it.
Thank you for watching.
It seems to that your top 10s are a great way to finish 2019.
I thought it would be a fun way to showcase 2019.
@@bigtractorpower well done
Always loved the sound of the JD Maximizer combines.
👍👍
Fair to say that 08 gleaner and 06 new holland were ahead of the rest with the central location of the drivers cabin
👍👍
The gleaner! Really enjoy the whole thing!
👍👍
The John Deere 4420 has a compact appearance that seems to be a great blend of form and function. It gets my vote.
I would love to see an old John Deere 105, another combine I drove for many years growing up in South Texas
I know of a farmer in IL with two 105s. I hope this will be the year to see them.
@@bigtractorpower It's amazing how much farm equipment has changed
Down here in Louisiana I have the John Deere 4400, 6600 and 7700 Turbo combines that harvest some grass seed, before the self propelled combines I harvested the grass seed with the AC All Corp 72 pull combine, been harvesting with these older combines since 1991.
Love the Ford/Claas machines.
👍👍
Bigtractorpower who made that Ford combine? I didn't know that Ford had combine harvesters back in the 1970s. Watching these old combines made me think about the RUclips channel this farm wife, Meredith, whose farm has the Gleaner combine. Really like the videos from your channel.
Thank you for watching. The Ford 642 was built by Claas from 1972-1979.
Loved all this!! Lot of fine older equipment in this!! Don't really know what to tell you how to improve on that. Love the drone footage. Can't even really pick on you as far as your rankings either.
It always hard to do a top 10. It’s neat finding these classic machines. Both the Case and the Ford combines in this video are very rare to see in the field these days.
Wow b t p couldn't believed you like 4420 best. I've had mine about 18 seasons now. Think the 6620 was sharpest of all. Never knew ford built a combine ,very good find. Once again great stuff , ennjoyed and thanks.
I like the way it looks and it was a neat experience to drive it. I do not base my ranking on operating them daily. For me it about the experience of filming them and how rare they are. If I operated them all I would probably have a much different ranking?
The number 1is my favorite one. Its incridible how old machines like this one survived and continue to harvest manny hours
You are living the dream! Greeting hands on combine time with the classic JD.
Thank you for watching so many BTP videos.
bigtractorpower. I watch them all and sometimes re watch them to see if I missed anything!
I loved the John Deere 4400 the most. All of those combines were awesome. I'd love to see some John Deere 5 series combine from the 1960s. They consist of the 40, 45, 55, 95 and 105 self propelled machines then there's the 42, 65, 96, and 106 pull type combines. Thank you for your great content. Keep up the great work.
I hope to get a 105 this next year.
I loved the tr 86 because we run a tr 96 and tr 97 so it's nice seeing it featured maybe you might be interested in filming them in a future harvest were bout 30 mins from hop town keep up the great work
I run a 510 Massey in Story County IA. You’re more than welcome to film it and even run it.
Thank you. I appreciate it. I will let you know if I make it out that way.
I want to run it too custom harvested with a hydrostat one year awesome!
I had a 4420 once, its what I learned to combine on, we called the machine Pee Wee. Always ran great with little break down time, I often wonder where the ole machine is today. Thanks for sharing the video
Great history thank you for sharing.
I am in agreement, the 4420 is my pick also. I remember seeing it in your other videos, it appears to be a very well maintained combine in physical appearance and I am certain it has to be mechanical wise also. His grain truck looks great also and I remember seeing it in previous segment. I am struck and impressed by the layout of this farm from what I can see in your video. Sometime other perks come your way in the filming, i.e. having the opportunity to getting to know and operate some farmers equipment! Thanks for all of the videos in 2019, will stay tuned in for 2020. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year. As you stated this is a nice farm with some well cared for classics. 😁👍👍
I am a JD man but, love the MF 860's..Worked for a custom cutter who had them, they were good...
Thanks for a wonderful tribute to the past. I date back further and think of classics of the 1950s. I'm sure the only way to see them today is in old photographs. Needless to say, your recent video contain some priceless videos of these grand machines in action. Thanks so much -- and keep "on doing." - Dean from Minnesota
John Deere John Deere .In the 70s and eighties I operated first a 4400 gas machine the a 7720 yellow toped cab. Beautiful machines. Love your videos please keep them coming.
😁👍👍
There isn't any activity more fun than running through the dust and chaf around a combine to catch up to the ladder for an inspection ride.
I loved that International 1420
😁👍👍
My favorite since new.
Loved that John Deere ,it must be fun to operate a vintage combine, sadly in NJ you don't get to see these machines very often,if at all , when i was a kid i had Ertle 1:16 scale farm toys, of tractors ,combine and a backhoe i even played with them on the beach. LOL
Thank you for watching. Ertl has made allot of great farm toys over the past 75 years. I grew up on the 1/16 Blue Print Replicas like the JD 8630 4wd and JD 8820 Turbo combine.
I grew up around New Hollands combines in South Africa. Dad operated one of the three yellow machine. Two 8050s one with a Ford engine and another with Mercedes Benz engine. And then there was a smaller 8030 with a Mercedes Benz engine as well.
Thank you, keep up the great vids, watch every nite. 👍
Thank you for watching BTP.
I love it! Especially that JD 6630. My grandfather used a Massey Ferguson 750 and always kept it in pristine condition right up to his last harvest two 3 years ago. I found two short videos of it in my photo roll, maybe I could send them to you.
I dropped a like after seeing the Maximizer running a twelve row. We used to run a Deere 9510 and a 693 off of our 6620 we ran prior. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you for watching. The 9600 was a neat find.
The 4420 was my favorite. I would really enjoy seeing an 8820 out in the field.
The 8820 is on my top 5 combines to find. I think that will happen in 2020.
Growing up we had a Massey 410 and a UNI 701 with a 727 husking bed and 4 row head. Remember riding with Dad in the UNI and getting to drive it too.
Very cool history.
Another great video. Happy New Year. I really enjoy seeing the IH 1420.
Happy New Year. The 1420 Rice was a rare find.
Hi Jayson, I enjoy watching in action Classic/Vintage farm machinery. So many cool brands and models. I never heard of New Idea brand, very nice these machines still operate and look great do so. Some fine rare finds you've captured. Very Nice & Enjoyed🚜🇺🇸👍
New Idea was big in the 60’s and 70’s. I will have a full feature on this 801.
I really loved that New Idea. Really interesting and cool harvester.
👍👍
One of my favorite video. You do know you're machinery, 6620,hard find, 7720 not so much. 850 Massey hard fine, 860 not so much. Late model l3 with duetz green striping, harder find. Nice work!
The 4420 and the Ford👍🏽
Maybe you can find some White combines next year.
Keep up the great job
It is always great to find WFE combines. Stay tuned.
That 6620 is mint. Never seen one with duals either. Would love to see a White 7300. Dad and my grandfather had one which even to this day my grandfather still talks about. One of his favourites going back to the AC allcrop he started with.
If I can film a 7300 I will film it.
I have never seen or even heard of a John Deere 4420 before! Great video and thank you!
Thank you for watching.
Love the international 1420 and all case and internationals
What’s your favourite brand please do more vintage machinery videos I watch those the most
I like finding classic farm machines. They are my favorite to film. My favorite classic combine brand is J.I. Case.
Love the yellow top 4420 also the 9600. You don’t get to see many 1660 case combines.
Would live to see some of the old Gleaners A’s AII ect.
Thanks for all your videos
Thank you for watching I’m always on the lookout for gleaner combines. Hopefully in 2021 some will turn out.
A great video. I agree with you selection of the John Deere 4420. Impressive piece of kit. Really enjoyed the clip of the Ford 642 combine. It looks very similar to an early Claas Dominator.
It is the same
Claas built combines from 1966-1979 for Ford. The only difference in seed green and Ford blue combines is that that the blue has a Ford engine.
Thanks for the video! I bought a 79 4400 for my hobby farm. It has the 4420 style rotary screen. The back end has the big Deere emblem like the 4420 instead of the John Deere word decal. The last owner put a hydraulic auger off of a 4420.
I think the black cab and the 4420 decals make the machine look so sharp! I’ve thought about doing that to mine!
Love your videos BTW, they are all ten outta ten. The best on You Tube by a long long way. Someday you must hop on a jumbo and come and check out some of our Aussie brands of machinery. We have models made for our conditions like the Massey 542 and 3342 headers from the early 70s. We also had the 750s and 850s. We had two 3342s and also two 542s. Before them we were using Aussie made pto drive. iHC harvesters pulled by AW6s and AW7 Inter tractors or Chamberlain tractors also made locally. I now use a 1644 Case IH and its better than all of the others if they were rolled into one. They give a beautiful clean sample, and they can swallow a lot of acres in a day. We are still old school and use combine seeders rather than air seeders. Two 28 run seeders pulled together with a twin pull can plant a lot of acres in a day as well and they are very accurate. You would love some of our Aussie built tractors too. Chamberlain, and Upton-350 hp two wheel drive.
Really nice of the farmer to trust you with his baby and let you take a couple laps!
It was fun. Tedious though. Lots to watch.
I liked the gleaner, hopefully you can get to film some old hillside combines next year
A friends father had a Deere 6600 hillside - I only saw it in the yard and never in the field working - that would be interesting to see.
Thelonious M we have a 6622 and a 7722 combines that level over 48 percent and there pretty amazing machines to get to run
There is nothing like that 4420. Also liked in second place the 6620 with duals very sharp.
I would love to see a JD 95 or 105 working in the field. The JD 95 was the first combine I ever operated at the age of 14 harvesting wheat.
I'd love to see those two also. I had a 95 Corn Special when I was farming back in the 70s and early 80s. Combining corn with it was one of my most favored things to do while farming. The 4420 was my favorite also.
I grew up with a 95EB across from my parents. I hope to get a 95 and 105 filmed some day.
The farmer I work for has a 1993 Case ih 1644. It is a classic and still runs like a champ!
Very cool.
Awesome to see a TR New Holland in one of your videos!!
Another great vid, love seeing classic combines that are PTO or pull type. Maybe Gleaner N series or IH 1482 would be great find for 2020.
Those would all be good ones. My be able to get a 914 or 1482 in Wi.
I’m jealous. I think you have the best job I could think of! Heck you even get to drive these sometimes too. (I would also like to see some more videos of older Olivers and White combines being ran?
One of the guys i work for used to run two John Deere 6622 combines. It's crazy what those would do compared to the S680 they run now!
Hey got a question. Tractor #9 was fill a wagon with whole cobs of corn, was wondering why they do this and what it is used for on the farm or sold? Thank you for all your hard work all year bringing these sweet videos for us. God bless you and your family in the new year my friend! 👍
Rolling Coal Times and farms have changed very much. Ear corn was hand picked for generations. The ears were stored in a “crib” with walls that allowed natural air flow. This let the corn dry out in storage and not spoil. Corn ears were shelled for feed or ears were ground whole for cattle feed. Eventually mechanical pickers with husking beds replaced the hand picking. The New Idea picker in the clip was just about the epitome of farmer pickers. Combines and field shelling along with drying systems replaced ear corn. This allowed corn to be a much more marketable commodity and not just livestock feed. Ear pickers (Oxbow and others) are still made in the US but mostly for seed corn or sweet corn where husks are mostly left on the ears. I think there are still some other pickers with husking beds manufactured in the world. Also Search corn shelling videos to see corn cribs and shellers.
@@stevecunningham2759 There are quite a few other vids on BTP that show huskers out in the field (corn pickers is probably the right term) with wagons behind and then shellers working in the yard with big belts powered from tractors pto flywheels.
Wow. I like Case 2188 🙂
We ran 3 915 IH combines for years. 8 row corn heads, 24’ platforms heads. 67” Flowgrip tires. Rough on the road! Replaced them with 1480’s. Then 1680’s. Then 2188-2388’s. I always liked the look of the 915’s. Dad said we never really had much problems with them, but the 1480’s definitely ran faster with the 8 row heads.
Loved them all but the 6620 was sooo sharp and the 1420 .
Nice video love the older equipment it brings back alot of good memories. My favorite is the IH 1420 l started with a 303 on up to a 2388.
Great red history. I like finding IH’s to film.
I was glad to see the Case 1660. My Dad had one.
That 4420 is awesome. I’ve never seen one, only it’s large brothers. My uncle ran Cockshutt’s for many yours, I have a great photo of my cousin & sister proudly sitting on his new 542 or 5542, my sister blocking the 5/55, so I’ll have to check out your other videos.
Love the sound of those old diesel motors over the new ones.
👍👍
We've got a pretty "classic" farm I guess! 6620SH and a "new" 9510SH! Good video!
Learned to drive a combine in my grandpa's 4420!
👍👍
The 6620 in the beginning was my favorite and in the future I hope you you could record a Gleaner R62
An R62 would be neat. I did film a Deutz-Allis R60 in 2017.
Epic vid!
When are you going to do some more farm truck vids ?
I am working on a GMC General.
My fav. Was the IH 1420 I always loved that series and how the design was carried over to the later case ih 1600 series and the later 2000 series combines I think you should film a case ih 1640 1660 or 1680 in 2020
I would love to have a 1420 .
Would love to see a video on a TR70 from you. Also anything Oliver combine related.
i have both of those in ne. iowa. kind'a rare
prettycrazy2 you should upload some videos. Last combine my grandpa farmed with was a TR70 4 row wide and a 15’ table. 3208 cat. Got across 400 acres with it just fine.
I have filmed a TR75 and an Oliver 7800. A TR70 is on my wish list. It’s the original rotary combine. 👍👍
I didn’t know ford made combines, neat to see one!
Class built the blue Ford combines from 1966-1979. The 642 in this video is a ‘79 model. Before 1966 Oliver built a combine painted in red for Ford. The Oliver/Ford was a model 40.
I always love seeing your latest video's now that I'm a subscriber. The one thing I would've liked to have seen, is what the year was of each combine you featured. - Dave
Thank you for watching. I will include the year detail for 2020.
@@bigtractorpower Thanks very much for getting back to me on this, I look forward to seeing your videos again next year. - Dave
I ran a John Deere CTS,and an Case IH 1680 for a few years...started with a IH 915,and a JD 7700
