    If you ever said that you never feel your back workout in your lats or never have sore lats after training them, this video is for you. See how to get muscle soreness in your lats by training them with heavy eccentrics and applying tension to the muscles during maximum lengthening in this small 6 minute sample workout routine for back.
    Many people will say that they have a hard time getting certain muscles sore when they train them. They equate soreness to the effectiveness of the workout and reason that if they don’t feel sore the next day then they didn’t get a good workout in. That is not necessarily true. In fact, if you were training for strength it would be completely irrelevant. That said, one of the known stimulus for muscle growth is eccentric tension and overload.
    Here I will show you a quick 6 minute routine that you can do at the end of your back workout or as the only thing you do in your lat training if you want to prove to yourself the effectiveness of the method. Putting the science back in strength as we always do to utilize the anatomy of the lats to our advantage as we select specific back exercises to execute these techniques on.
    As you will see, certain back and lat exercises are better than others for applying the loaded eccentric technique. If you were to choose the wrong exercise you would either not have enough tension during the time you had a good stretch or you would have too much tension but in a position that didn’t make it safe to have it without jeopardizing the safety of the lift.
    In this 6 minute back routine you are going to perform just 3 exercises. The first is a lat pulldown done with your elbows in front of your body while still using an overhand grip. This places more stretch on the lats as it is similar to the positioning of the arms during a chinup except with the opposite grip. As you raise the bar back up after each rep try and let your arms travel forward as you protract your scapula. This will accentuate the stretch on your lats greatly and place much more tension on them eccentrically provided you keep each rep slow.
    Move onto the dumbbell pullover. Apply the stretch to the lats by dropping the pelvis down towards the floor before performing the 21 style rep scheme shown. Each of these should be performed using your 12RM with a 4 second per rep cadence. Move onto the last back exercise in the routine called the rotational high row. There is an added tweak to the way you do this to ensure separation of the lats and stretch under load. Do one minute on each arm and then finish up with one more minute of the first two exercises for a total of 6 minutes.
    This is just a sample of the power of AX training when you put the science back in strength. If you want to see what a full 90 days of training like an athlete could do for your physique and performance, head to athleanx.com and get our complete ATHLEAN-X Training System.

      i agree! I went through a period though where I was super sore all the time, it got old. Luckily I'm not nearly as sore now that I've built more strength. The soreness now is pleasant not crippling. lol

      If you will follow every step he is doing then definatly yes and go to failiure on every workout as he does. 67 dollar for 90 days is worth. he goes trough every workout sepeartly in a video shows how to perform exercises. 90 days nutrition plan and his workouts give alot of variety on how to workout for different individuals as people can have injuries and so on there are multiple exercises i never would have thought about. Also he changed my incomplete training so that you train whole body and not muscles you like and such. After 90 days i felt different. Also you get free forum access to comunicate with the people that have sighned for his program. There are daily nutrition advices and food reciepes. This is not your 250 dollar 2 page cookie cutter program that you see this days from people on steroids. This is 90 days legit and complex workout/nutrition plan from a true professional. I feel that i never wasted 67 dollar but rather gained ton, even if you dont do the 90 days program just going trought the days and seeing different exercises and aproach is enough to pay that money. I never regreted it till this day.

    READ THIS JEFF: Hey man, I used to admire your videos sooo much, then for some reason I started loosing interest in your channel so I starting to watching other channels, but I realized that 1.) your videos don't only help me get fit, but they educate me about muscles, which I really enjoy learning about. 2.) you're probably one of very few legit fitness provider on youtube, you do not make stuff up, you don't fake results, and most importantly you're not pushing your products like everyone else which I think is amazing. 3.) you're a BEAST, I mean you got better natural physique than 99% of the fitness youtube ppl, and you know how to put your muscles to work so there not just there for show. I really like that about your channel because you're teaching your audience how to be mobile with their muscular level.

    Jeff, I know you probably won't see this because I am a minority within your crowd of audiences, but I was thinking you could do this.
    Starting from first to last for your sore in 6 minutes series.
    1. Triceps
    2. Bicep
    3. Anterior, posterior, rear deltoids.
    4. Pectoralis Major / Minor
    5. Variation of workouts for the Rectus Abdominis
    6. Gluteus Maximus/Medius
    7. Bicep femoris workout
    8. Quadricep workout
    9. Gastrocnemius/ soleus.
    10. Traps (I'm personally not a big fan of the trapezius muscle)
    This is just my recommendation of what you can do for your "Sore in 6 minutes" series.

    Ok Jeff, here's my question. In your video "Lat Pulldown Lowdown (Which Way is Best?)" you say that leaning back slightly during a lat pulldown (like in this video) targets more of the mid back & rhomboids, as opposed to the lats. You then say that sitting upright and pulling through your head with dual handles is best for lat development. Now in this video, you're doing the pulldown leaning back slightly, saying that this puts your arms out in front for a good strech on the lats. So I'm a bit confused. Are both positions (leaning back & upright) good for the lats, just in slightly different ways?

    • @athleanx
      @athleanx  7 лет назад +95

      Remember the goal Eric. Maximum eccentric tension on the lats. By performing the concentric with a slight lean back I can recruit the help of the rhomboids/mid back in addition to the lats so I can max out the load I can "pull down". From here, I float back to an upright position as I allow my elbows and the bar to drift up and away from me to increase the stretch on the lats. The load they are subjected to is higher since now they have to take on the eccentric responsibility more directly since I shifted to the upright position. Make sense?

    • @user-hp6pj4sy3k
      @user-hp6pj4sy3k 7 лет назад +3

      Actually yes, this makes perfect sense. I now notice how "float back" to an upright position. So then it's sort of like a dumbbell/barbell dead row, am I right? Since you're recruiting a little extra help from the mid back so the lats can maximize eccentric tension? Thanks for your reply!!

    is it true that if you train reguarly, the muscle soreness dicrease overtime?

    • @erikbentley9005
      @erikbentley9005 7 лет назад +83

      Tim Kim not necessarily. It'll adapt to the training if you don't mix things up though

    • @tiogriver8479
      @tiogriver8479 7 лет назад +51

      Yes is true, you get less result too.
      But not worry you have 1 or 2 year of pain XD
      P.S.: soreness ≠ lactic acid

    AX-1 successfully completed. The hardest training-experience I've ever made, but I went through all 12 weeks. Jeff's programm gave me so much, I'm happy and proud for what I look today. Eventhough I must have finished this 3 more times for the body I want to have, but hey, I'm 32 and there's so much time for that =) Just do it!

    Noob question here. The pullovers are for lats instead of lengthening the chest?

    • @JohnDoe-bx1bw
      @JohnDoe-bx1bw 7 лет назад

      One of those exercises, that engage pulling and pushing muscles at the same time.

    • @rotooki1154
      @rotooki1154 7 лет назад

      SirChocula for chest you pull over with your chest, you'll pull over further than he is in this video and squeeze the chest at the end of the movement, there's multiple pullover variations but yes a pullover can target the chest
