    I have had my Bosch for 22 years, and I LOVE it! I have made lots of bread, mashed potatoes, cookies, and muffins. I have the blender jar and have made lots of smoothies and other things too.

    Oh, definitely the Bosch, and I have also used both. I've never liked how heavy the Kitchen-Aid is or now much space at the bottom leaves things that don't get mixed in, and I don't want to have to do what the mixer should do. Yes, a Bosch doesn't leave me doing extra work, and it is amazing for all of the reasons you said, including the blender attachment.

    I am so glad you love it! I love mine and while I still do use my Kitchenaid for certain things, mostly making my buttercream frosting, I am going to the Bosch for nearly everything else. I have recently purchased the bowl scraper, the batter whips and the batter blades, which are great for different applications. The whisks are good for whipping egg whites and cream, but the batter whisks/blades are good for cake batters, muffins and quick breads because they don't incorporate too much air into the batter. I am going to spring for the stainless steel bowl next because I just think that would be better in case I want to do meringues etc. Plus I am partial to stainless work bowls. You got a good deal on that mixer. Had no idea you could pick those up at Costco!

      +Noreen's Kitchen I still use both, but I like the Bosch a little more. It's more powerful. It is lighter, and I love that lid on the top. It is a pretty amazing mixer. You do know you are the reason I bought mine. I used the cookie paddles for the first time this weekend. I really liked the texture of the dough.

    We splurged BIG TIME on a Bosch in 1980 when we were starving grad school students. I made three loaves of bread a week in it for over 30 years (when I sadly had to step away from the bread). That was 37 years ago and I still use It often for batters and doughs. It’s one you can hand down to your children for sure!

    Thank you- I was leaning towards the Bosch hoping it has some of the advantages you outlined. Now I am sold and just ordered it. That lighter weight, better mixing, smarter splash guard, etc. makes it a no brainer. I was not sure about the plastic, so glad to hear that it was not an issue. Worth it assuming it holds up given it lightens the load.

    I was given a bosch as a wedding present 22 years ago and it still has never failed me! I have a little kitchen aid that I use from time to time because it’s pretty and all, but to get a big job done I use the Bosch! It’s the best there is and mine comes with a blender as well that goes in the corner!

    I still would love the kitchenaid, mostly because I have had my eye on it since they first came out. I understand all the pro's of the bosch, but I do have a difficult time wrapping my head around that price tag for something that is plastic.

    • @StephanieManley
      @StephanieManley  9 лет назад +2

      +CutTheFat You should see some of the videos where it does 15 pounds of bread dough in that bowl ;).

    • @lindabrooks66

      +CutTheFat the external housing is plastic, the important moving internal parts, metal. More powerful motor and transmission ... you can also purchase a stainless bowl if the plastic bowl puts you off.

    • @allisonm8508

      You can purchase a stainless steel bowl. These Bosch mixer's are workhorses. I had to KitchenAid's, a K5 and a case six. The motor went on the K5 after about five or six years. I bought a brand new supposedly industrial made for home type K6 KitchenAide. It seemed like it would be a good machine but it was grossly under powered. It couldn't even handle a double batch of cookie dough and the thing was huge and heavy. I got rid of it and got the Bausch and have never looked back. It is vastly superior and worth every extra penny.

    Ms. Stephanie thanks for showing the comparison, I just bought my first mixer "Hamilton Beach" from Amazon and with gift card and rewards points I bought it for about $63.00 with free shipping and two or three scrapers. As I am currently no in prime membership my shipping would take 5 to 7 or 8 days but I trust Amazon and simply love it. so wish me well. Thanks again.

    My daughter got a Bosch mixer after using kitchen Aid off years. My old kitchen Aid aid is still working after 45 years. hubby had to replace a gear ($35) and it keeps on working. But I definitely plan to replace it with a Bosch. It’s lighter and I won’t have flour flying out of the bowl like with my KA Mixer.

    I bought myself a Bosch in 2006. The chocolate chip cookies made in the Bosch are so much better and chewier than in the professional Kitchenaid. When compared side by side, you would think they're two different cookie recipes. I believe this has to do with how the butter is beaten. The Bosch is far more efficient at fluffing the butter than the Kitchenaid.

    I have a KitchenAid Artisan, the gears have broken twice in 3 years...not impressed. It makes a great bread dough, looks great too...but I don't have confidence in it lasting as long as the original Hobart ones. I've just ordered a Bosch...if it's as good as the Bosch washing machine I had for over 10 years - I'll be happy! Thanks for sharing x

    I have a kitchenaid pro 600. Had it for years and a smaller k.a. I use for my pasta attachments. I am very ready to upgrade to Bosch especially as a family grows. I am waiting for the mixer and the Baker attachments special then I'm all in.

  • @Julie-hh6pw

    The Bosch is awesome! I make enough dough for 5- 26 oz loaves of whole wheat bread once a week in the Bosch. Everything you said is spot on. No scraping the sides, cover keeps everything in. Works great on large batches of chocolate chip cookies, muffins and potatoes. My sister got my mom's Bosch, which my mom got in 1968 for her wedding, and it's still going strong, plastic and all! I love my Bosch!
    That being said, I'm leary about making cake batter and delicate batters and dough in the Bosch. I'm toying with purchasing a KitchenAid for these applications, but do you find the Bosch works just as well?

    People trust me! when I tell you do not !! want a KitchenAid mixer. I own KitchenAid Professional 610 model ,its a big boy !!and it sucks rotten eggs !!! I also own the artisan 300 Ultra powered and that also crapped the bed!! I've been baking for a long time now. KitchenAid maybe pretty!!! to look at but remember all that Glitters Is Not Gold !!!but if you're a true serious Baker !! you go get yourself a Bosch mixer!! it will not fail you!! if you're just a every now and then going to bake a little bit of chocolate chip cookies !! go buy yourself a KitchenAid !! other than that I can't help you anymore. but trust me do not buy A KitchenAid. they are not made to last anymore !!! back when our grandparents owned them 50 years ago that's when KitchenAid was amazing. not anymore! since the Food Network !and alot of RUclips channels everybody wants that shiny!!! pretty!! looking whatever color you decide to choose from !sitting on their counter . but again if you're a true Baker!!! say no!!! to KitchenAid they truly are absolutely terrible!!! and you will be disappointed!!!!!

  • @anythingiron69
    @anythingiron69 8 лет назад +9

    not a fair comparison exactly. The kitchen aid you demoed is much smaller in bowl and motor size.. I was able to get a blue KA. For 249 or 200 less than the bosh. But I get a rupture moving the KA , I like the suction cups ( needed as it is so lite). I have a 6qt bowl that is stainless. It will not do 15 # of flour. Yes the KA Does not reach the sides! The bosh looks like damn good German engineering!

    Hi! I posted a short on my channel with the Bosch mixer and have a question on dough kneading. Would you be so kind to look at it to see if it is correct? I seem to be off the learning curve on my mixer...

  • @lorigrass1
    @lorigrass1 8 лет назад

    Hi Stephanie. I have not used a stand mixer before, but am about to start. So, I have been looking at reviews of both Kitchen-Aid and Bosch models, in order to decide which one to buy. I'm just learning, but from what I've seen, it looks to me like your challenge is a unfair matchup. Wouldn't the match be more balanced if you placed a KitchenAid 7 quart up against this Bosch Plus model? Am I wrong? I know I could be, but it seems to me like placing a $10 bill up against a $20 bill, and saying, look! You can buy more with the $20 bill! I'm very interested in what you believe is the best choice between the KitchenAid 7 quart and the Bosch Universal Plus. Also, what machine do you believe is better between the KitchenAid "8 quart" and the Bosch Universal Plus? Thank you for your time.

    • @StephanieManley
      @StephanieManley  8 лет назад

      +lori grass I compared both entry models. The Bosch doesn't have a variety of entry models. Sure, I can compare a larger KitchenAid model, since my complaints about it tend to be out the design they don't change. Once we compare the 8 quart KitchenAid the price is as of 1/6/2015 698, with only the three attachments, the Bosch is 379. So should we start with entry models, similar price points, or similar mechanical function. So my largest complaints with KitchenAid are the whisk, dough hook, and paddle do not make good contact, the bowl allows for a lot of overspray of dry ingredients (they do make a shield), and I think it is harder to keep clean. Let me know what would be the best apples to apples comparison.

    My kitchenaid mixer broke after the third use, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. my mother, and grandmother both have older kitchenaid mixers for over 20 years and it seems the old ones were alot better than the new ones. Bosch which may be ugly, IMO is the better mixer

      My KA from 1989 is still going strong, even with heavy bread doughs. I don't know if I would get another one, unless it's the Commercial one, their most powerful model, although I find I often use my Danish dough whisk for bread instead of the mixer.

    I have been using my Bosch for sometime now and it blows K.A. out of the ballpark. The only different is the K.A. is purdy. But purdy doesn't get it done. I mill my own flour and there isn't anything the Bosch can't do. This morning I baked 6 loaves of bread in one batch without breaking a sweat. It wisks quickly and cleans up nice. I have the stainless bowl. It's pretty enough.

  • @SheerasPlace

    I don't have a Bosch. Yet. 😜
    You are spot on though about the Kitchenaid. I hate that you have to constantly scrape the Bowl and I make Tamales and I have to do it in batches because it won't do all the Masa at one time. I suspect that the Bosch Bowl is big enough to do it all at once and that would be freakin awesome!

  • @ryanhollist3950

    About the plastic bowls on the Bosch: what is it like trying to get the grease off so you can do something like meringue? That's one of my biggest issues with plastic; it keeps a film of grease for ages, no matter how hard you try to wash it off. And speaking of meringue: how does the plastic hold up to doing something like Italian meringue where you pour in sugar hotter than boiling water? No one ever seems to address these issues when doing these reviews.

  • @mijalakis3
    @mijalakis3 4 года назад

    I think you are not comparing fairly here. That Bosch is heavy duty and the KA is a home one. You would need to compare it with at least a Prov500 or 600

    Thanks for taking the time for the review. I had seen these in videos but did not know the name of them. I watched a video on the machine and it said and showed making whipped cream. Here is my curiosity. In order to make whipped cream you really need to use a very cold bowl and whip. With this being all plastic how does that work. Does it take a long time since the plastic would not be cold?

    • @StephanieManley
      @StephanieManley  4 года назад

      I think the speed of the mixer overcomes a bowl that is not cold.

I used to bake a lot of bread but now I just use it to make Candies and Banana Bread, Cookies ,chopping nuts grading Cheese's. I gave my Bosch to our first born since he called and wanted to know should he get a Kitchen aid or Bosch.I missed it so much that my Husband bought me a new one. I'm debating my first mixer purchase, I've been using my Mom's Kitchenaid for years and love it but it's time to for me to get my own. After reading reviews it seems like Kitchenaid's quality has declined in recent years and I'm wondering if the Bosch might be the better choice! How does the Bosch handle cake batters? I'm making at least 2 large layer cakes a month and the Kitchenaid hasn't failed me yet! Can the Bosch hold up?

    • @StephanieManley

      Bethany Dannelly I have a smaller KA from several years back (10-15?) which is starting to fail.....and very much bugging me! I just got that brand new beautiful red KA a little over a year ago. PIECE OF CRAP! The gears stripped before the year was up but I let it sit so I couldn't get it replaced within their one year warranty. They wouldn't replace it. So now it just sits on my counter, collecting dust! So disappointing for KA. And it was at least $350, just for comparison. It really can't handle bread-like consistency doughs. I'd go with something else other than a KA. ANYTHING else!! Especially if you ever plan on mixing something other than a cake mix. 😉

      Cakes, frostings merengues and of course whipped potatoes or creams Kitchen Aides light years ahead!

    After my KA mixer crashed (drive gears lost teeth) I bought the Bosch Universal Plus two years ago. I bake all of my bread and churn my own butter. The KA was a pain to move and it did not really mix well...And KA does not want you to knead more than 5 minutes in their mixer. AND dealing with their customer "service" can be a challenge (be sure to take your blood pressure pills before calling them).

    Which one is less noisy and you don't end up with a headache.. Where I live I don't have Bosch but I have options of both Kenwood and kitchenaid.. Please advice which one would be a great buy less noisy cause standmixers cost a bomb here in India not like US or UK where it's way less expensive. Plus I'm a weekend baker. I want a reliable machine like my current Hitachi hand mixer which was purchased from Japan and belongs to my mother for nearly 32-33years. Touch-Wood.. Sad part is that Hitachi no longer manufacture stand mixers..

      +Angel D I don't know when it comes to Kenwood. I believe King Arthur Flour used to promote these machines heavily. All mixers are going to have some noise. You don't them for extended periods of time though. I haven't used a Kenwood and I can't comment on it. I can tell you I like the Bosch very much, and I find myself using it more frequently when the appliance is easier to use. Good luck in your quest.

When my children were still home I used to pretty much every day. Bosch makes a smaller machine. The Styline (MUM5) is the current model which is in process of replacing the Compact (MUM4) which is still sold in the US. I have a Styline and it works beautifully for smaller batches. Mine came with a shredding attachment.

      Pleasant Hill Grains stopped carrying the Styline; I seem to recall that it got some bad reviews while they still carried it (glad yours is working okay). Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with a Compact. I have one, my cousin now has one, and a lot of people in the online mixer owners' group I'm in have them (which is how I first became aware of them). Lily, I hope you got a mixer that met your needs!

    I want to make royal icing in my bosch universal mixer. What hook or whip should I use on what speed. The recipes I see out there use the kitchen aide on low with whips. The bosch seems to go too fast and might incorprate too much air. Please advise.

      +Tippy Mueller if you are worried about how much air, maybe you would start with the cookie paddles. They would have less surface area than the whip. Or the dough hook may be a good attachment to use.

    I have been watching every review of the KA vs Bosch video I could to help me make a decision as to whether or not spending the money on he Bosch was worth it. I have a 4.5 Ultra Power KA that is about 30 years old and it does a good job. The problem I'm having the KA seems to get very sluggish when I bake large batches of cookie dough, which I do quite a bit. I see a lot of info on the Bosch about making enormous quantities of bread dough, but I'm not likely to make that much bread dough. What I'd like to know is does anyone use their Bosch for things other than bread and if so, how does it perform? I suppose I could also consider the Bosch compact, but my concerns are the same for the cookie dough. I'll keep my KA for as long as it continues to run because it is a good mixer. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thank you for taking the time out of your day to do this! I do like Bosch (have the dishwasher), but I think the KitchenAid is better built. I think that's why there are people that still have it 10, 20, and even 30 years later. That's also why it weighs a lot (made of good, sturdy, metal pieces). I think too many manufacturers are cheaping out with the whole plastic thing nowadays. Just my opinion. You are certainly entitled to like the Bosch better though. :)

    Bosch is made for serious bakers that need a real heavy duty mixer. A Bosch will handle the heaviest doughs, the thickest cookie doughs.
    So will many other mixers but what sets them apart? The Bosch can do it all day long, day after day, and do it for years. It's a tough beast.
    KitchenAid can't even come close. That why both the KitchenAid metal and plastic gears and their motors die after repeated stress. Their metal components are soft metals, like those cheap screws that always strip.
    I fix small appliances part-time at a local repair shop. I specialize in repairing KitchenAid worm drives and motors. We do so many KitchenAid mixer repairs, we keep a majority of the parts well stocked. Big sign in store window: *We specialize in repairing KitchenAid mixers, parts in stock.*
    This time of year is horrible (Nov-Dec). It's mixer season. People call in a panic, because their mixer just died. _How fast can you fix it?_
    If you're not a big-time baker then a KitchenAid might be fine. Just read the KitchenAid manual and instructions. They clearly tell you that the mixer is limited and so are the recipes. That's why they deny so many claims.

    With the lighter weight of the Bosch is that an issue when mixing something heavy like bread dough? I am envisioning something like the clothes washing machines with an unbalanced load walking themselves across a room from the olden days (well...not that old).
    Gotta say though the plastic build for the Bosch is a turn off compared to the Kitchen Aid. That's just me though. YMMV

      The Bosch is absolutely awesome when it comes to kneading bread dough, and I can do a lot of amazing bread dough in that machine. I've had mine for 15 years and it is still great. But for cookies? Unless you purchase separately their cookie paddles, don't even think about it. The ingredients just get pushed around the slippery plastic bowl and don't incorporate. (When I purchased the Bosch, I was so excited to bake dozens of cookies at once and didn't even know you had to buy the paddles separately for cookies. I quickly became frustrated and went out and got a closeout KA Artisan that is still serving me well so I could at least make some cookies.) And worse, many people who have used the Bosch cookie paddles have been very disappointed in their design. They are plastic paddles on a metal doohickey, and the paddles break pretty easily. The instructions say to hand mix nuts and chips into the dough (which is pretty sad, since the Bosch has such a powerful motor), but some people have even had the paddles break just mixing the dough before any of those things are added. So while I think the Bosch is great for some things (I'm sure it is excellent for cakes, potatoes, and other similar things, though I honestly have just used my KA for those things since it's much easier to clean and it lives in a dedicated spot in my small kitchen), until they come up with a new design for the cookie paddles I won't be using my Bosch for cookies. I'd also love it if they'd just include (better-designed) cookie paddles with the machine when you buy it. It is so expensive already. I'd also love it if it were easier to clean. :)

    My Mum had a Bosch since mid 1950's but it has gone through two motors. Maybe it is because she is German and had 10 kids and used it virtually daily and worked it hard. The blender is a piece of crap so dispense with it or just don't replace it when it breaks and it will break. She had an old 10 speed Oster blender, it still works. A few years ago I was able to get the previous incarnation of your Bosch for a very reasonable $199 because your style of machine was coming out, all the old accessories fit the new machine so it is back in play again!

    • @ottovonostrovo1486

      Actually, it would have been 3 motors because I was looking for another motor when I chanced upon the bargain Universal. One of my sisters in law recently told me that she had purchased a Bosch and if I still had the original recipe booklet/ manual, as I recall it was in German. The original bowls were enamelware
      The earlier Kitchen Aids were also quite good; I bought my mom a KitchenAid K5SS lift bowl mixer (325 watts?!?!) in the early 1980's because my sister also had one. My sister is still using hers and the one I gave my mom has been passed on to my niece who wanted "Oma's machine like mom's" and they both have been and continue to be trouble-free!! The KitchenAid was better to mix the batter for cookies and cakes the Bosch is hands down the best for bread doughs and even better now with the stronger motor (than the 1950-1960 motor).

    I hate my KA even though it is red! It is much easier to do the job by hand than carrying that heavy thing around the kitchen and clean after it. I have to crape constantly to bring the dough together, and hold it in place to keep it falling off the counter top. i cannot mix a small amount of anything. It sticks to the attachment, and have a good time like it is on a marry-go-round. Oh, and those attachments sold separately, drives me crazy. Why do you sell the attachments separately? Can it be because the ones that come with the machine do not do their job?

    You do recognize that the Kitchenaid you're reviewing is one of the lower level models and that the comparison is not really that fair. From a price point perspective the Bosch should be compared at least with the 600 KA Pro. That being said from everything I've read and witnessed, since KA went from Hobart to Whirlpool, the quality has gone down considerably. I just brought a new KA home, plugged it in, heard a pop and that was the end. The machine popped the circuit breaker. This happened after my 20 year old KA K5SS stopped turning. I think I'll repair it since the parts are available.

    • @StephanieManley

      +Joel Drubin They are both entry models. I totally understand and appreciate what you are saying. I think the KA are pricier than the Bosch models. +Stephanie Manley Like some of your followers I'm shallow and like to have a nice looking Kitchenaid on the counter. I have a Bosch dishwasher that I love but I can't see myself buying that Bosch mixer because it will need to remain hidden under the counter which in and of itelf will be a PIA dragging it out every time I want to use it. The K5SS survived kneading 9 cups of flour for over 20 years with a smaller motor. Its not just about power its also about torque. Onward and upward.

    I have a Bosch machine that I purchased 35 years ago. It is still going strong, however, we have replaced many beaters due to my husband's quadruple batch cooking making sessions. :( All that aside, this machine is a WORKHORSE! One thing I have had trouble with is when mixing a small amount of flour with the liquid ingredients to make sweetbreads. I find that the whisks beat the 'bejimminy' out of the mixture, while the dough hook doesn't seem to incorporate the liquid into the flour. I do love my machine, but find some applications frustrating. Does the new machine also come with a blender like my old guy did? (the machine, not my husband! ) ha ha

      My daughter's Bosch is about a year old and hers came with the blender. They don't look like our old Bosches but the blender section is still there.
      I grew up with a Bosch and have had my own for close to 25 years now. When I make cookies it's always a quadruple batch. This Bosch has made many, many 6 loaf batches of bread and has never had a problem.

      No can opener but the Bosch also has a citrus juicer, pastry press, meat grinder (with disks for noodles), sausage stuffer, slicer-shredder, food processor, flour sifter, ice cream maker, grater, several pasta rollers, and blender. They seem to have discontinued the fruit press and grain mill which are probably still available on eBay.

    desiree shotlandHi through circumstances over the years as a professional chef pastries and cooking through three countries South Africa France and Australia now , I bought a kitchen aid in Australia as my life long dream after having used two Boschs sponsored to me in South Africa and used a Bosch hand Beater in my restaurant in France , I can confirm what Stephanie said above the Bosch outdoes the Kitchen Aid in every way I've now reverted to a Bosch again and given my kitchen Aid to my daughter in return for my small 6 egg max Bosch she had kept all these years from the 1980's it's so powerful I'll use it any day in place of the larger Kitchen AidI swopped her to get back my old baby botch far lighter and motor better I replaced my Kitchen Aid I gave her with a larger Bosch equitable with the size of the Kitchen Aid 12 eggs capacity( 4.8 l)and its performance largely out does the Kitchen Aid in every way. I also had the big one like she shows in the video above which is still going in a friends house as I sold it to her with no space to keep it herein my kitchen so I bought the Kitchen Aid after that and regretted it ever after! For anyone who bakes a lot the big one is amazing I now use the 6 egg small Bosch for small things ( it's over 35 years old brown and cream with stainless steel bowl ) and my 4.8l one for large bakes however I ve lately started using the new one for everything as it's so powerful and easy to clean that I get a joy of using it as its red and I'm a girl after all as well :) but I love good machines in my kitchen so do not hesitate to buy a Bosch machine ever

    My kitchen aid professional model bought 6 years ago (450$), very light use officially stop working. I was always question about how this thing gonna last because of the way the bowl design (put on 2 side hook and lft the handle to raise the bowl up) and the noise of the bowl getting shaking and self-adjusting during operation. Now the motor is working, but the bowl could not adjust its movement, strains the motor, paddle stop spinning and the whole thing make scrary growling sound. Zero credit for kidchen aid, i see Bosch having smarter design. I make sure my words passed to my next generation Kitchen Aid, no thank you. All so i never happy with other a attachemts, the attachemts go with machine (whip wire, duogh hook) are very cheap made and leave black metal dust on the food. meat grinder is a waste, meat comes out with black stuff from the intact betwen driver. A whole horrible experience.

    You are comparing a 325 watt, 5 qt. tilt head, mixer to an 800 watt, 6.5 qt. mixer.Apples to oranges. Not a good review. Good reviews compare things of same size and similar power. Now if you compared it with a KitchenAid Pro 5, 525 watt, or 6 qt. 575 watt mixer, then I would be more inclined to consider your findings. But a V-8 Buick to a 4 cyl. I like that you compared entry level, to entry level. Even if you did a 525w or 575w is irrelevant to your talk points. (You never said it wasn't as powerful.) This person saying simply comparing engine size is like comparing a V-8 Buick to a V-8 BMW... still NO COMPARISON simply because you match one technical aspect. I'm researching for a book and valued your observations. *Hugs

    I wonder if Bosch paid her 4 this review other than just giving her a free mixer? A plastic Bowl and suction cups are a sign of lasting quality LOL

      Cynthia Wolfe yup, especially since most of her issues with the KitchenAid would be solved by using a stainless steel bowl instead of glass. There’s a splash guard/pouring shield, it weighs less, and no concerns about breaking it

      For those who have never tried a Bosch ... 😘

    Bosch is the way to go. Kitchenaid is all china-made these days. No more metal gears unless you fork over about $800.
