    I’m really torn on how Peckham is these days. I feel like the new lot don’t belong here but the old Peckham was rough and dangerous. A real tough place to grow up

    Great video tc. They built that centre after that little schoolboy got murdered as a tribute. This has all been regenerated. Was a hell of an area in the early 90s

      @@codpro627 yeah, that’s where north pecks estate was. They knocked it all down not long after damilola was murdered. Now they’re knocking everything down again and rebuilding

    Apparently some of the old blocks are still standing. However there are no elevated walkways/ staircases and no upper storey shops. When were all these removed? And also what used to be the western part of the estate ( Samuel street etc. ) is now only low rise. When were these blocks demolished?

      The shops would have been removed by the early 2000s.
      Elevated walkways were gone by the mid-1990s.

      @@codpro627 that and gentrification is just ruining places like Peckham and Brixton. Doesn’t give the same feeling walking through peckham anymore

      @@jsav2236I could be completely wrong but I sense a bit of hostility and resentment to gentrification and the influx of white middle class in Peckham. Just an observation and I’m in Peckham rarely so I could easily be imagining things. It reminded me of Harlem in NYC.
      Brixton - although still has the Brixton of old - feels long gone.
