Between late 70s to late 90s that estate had the best people living there, most of my school friends lived on the Aylesbury. Greats times! Everyone love the padddling Lake in Burgess Park, those that are old enough to know.

Thank you for your u non judgemental vid! My first flat was Heygate- 17yrs- then permanently housed in 'little Wendover' (East St end) 8th floor, 18yrs old!!! Don't anyone get it twisted tho, my 1 bed flat was not wot you'd expect. A Great sized kitchen, big front room, typical bathroom & huge bedroom! These flat were so well built aswell. District heating & hot water, decent balcony, big storage under stair cupboard. Windows need updating & new kitchen cabinets & sink aswell. In 1998 I moved in. Couple yrs later started getting council letters about " knocking it down" 😆 when I left, 2024, still nothing. They stopped caring, trying to drive people out. "THEY" ( C0uncil ; G.V) did the usual. Some were owned privately & Forced out. Some refusing & being left in blocks with only them residents. Offered unreasonable offers. Yes it was dangerous if u didn't kno it. But there was a community & many happy home, left to look out for each other as the' big shots' responsible for managing it left it. It got more & and more harder with all the badness. As it became more & more shut down, of course it's guna be a Houston. Like everywhere, had its ood & if u weren't known, cud be sketchy, but it's not the people , kids or dogs... its the manipulation of the controllers! Sorry for the Essay lol. 😆 couldn't stop once i started 😉😉

I'm a Londoner, born and bred and I am glad these old estates are being ripped down. They need to go. The were depressing and only looked like breeding grounds for kids to end up in prison. Terrible environments.

I grew up in the mid 90s early 2000s i could only imagine how it was 25-30 years ago, big up the man dem that was on road and now grown married with families, we made it....

Use to visit my cousins and some people i knew in the 90s,in the summer was a vibe,But if you wasnt with respected people it could get sticky really quickly,Good old days in South London

Lads should have visited Surry Grove Off Licence AKA Sids to meet some real locals. In 1997 when Tony Blair made his 'Forgotten People' speech I knew we would become political pawns and the residents have been ever since. Sold out to gentrification because of incompetence & corruption, the estate could have been maintained. The Balsa wood and brick tile facia buildings being built now will also be gone before I am gone & the cycle of Re-gentrification Rinse Repeat $$$ will make the corrupt powers at be happy lil piggies again.
