Matthew Wight I was in Chelsea barracks with Irish Guards along with the 2nd Bt Scots Guards. I knew your Father, not personally but from seeing him at Chelsea bks. I was was in the RP staff at the time when the Jocks were marching out the back gate to Buck house. I saw your dad at the rear of the Guard and thought fuck what a smart big bastard he is. He looked every inch a Guardsman. Gleaming from head to toe. I know quite a few Tumbledown Vets, Burrell Pithcathry to name one they all knew your dad and said he was a tremendous bloke. There were three Irish Guards serving with the 2nd Bt when they went down to the Falkland islands in 82, an Officer, who I saw last Paddies day and two Guardsmen, one Dennis Kinsala was shot in the head on Tumbledown but survived. I left the Micks about three months before the War. Best regards and Respect to your Father QS Blue Red Blue.

Bigjohno242, the majority of the men in the 5th Marines Btn was conscripts. So you should write that the Argentines marines conscripts fougth magnificently and well at Tumbledown against a formidable and a elite regiment like the Scots Guards.

The truth is that the British Forces thought that they fought against a enteraly batallion in the battle for Toumbledown Mount. The Scots Guard fouht against 200 marines of the NACAR Company, the majority of they were conscripts. The BIM 5 was divided in three companies, the NACAR, OBRA (Easth of Toumbledown) and the MAR (Sapper Hill) . They fouth against the V brigade whith three Battallions, the Scots Guards, Welsh Guard and the Gurkhas.
How long does it take to use a rifle and a machine gun, dig a trench and throw a grenade, use a morter. You people were frothing at the mouth before the action started but it was all mouth, same as you still mouth off today. I was only a half trained territorial but I would be like special forces compared to your soldiers.
Well this simply is not true. Tumbledown was fought with the best that The Hombres had to offer but you lost. Our wee Nepalese pals then went to send you running back to Stanley as your mob were too scared to face them on Mt William.
we know what marines n paras can do----but scots gaurds are another thing------they should be recognised as one of the toughest regs in uk along with marines n paras----they proved it against the toughest argie marines in that war.
The 5th MBI were not by a long way all conscripts, & their commander had them train at night for a month in anticipation of a night attack. They were well dug in from superior positions fighting men who had to fight uphill & carry all their ammunition. On the night of battle it was the Scots Guards who unleashed a hellish time on the 5MBI & you would do well to remember that salutary fact. Alba gu bràth!! 🏴The blood is strong.
we do care and its not england its the United kingdom Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland including the Overseas Territories and crown dependencies we defend all of them and the falklands would not matter as a door to antartica as we have the south geogia south orkney islands south shetlad islands there so you are making up excuses to justify your war and its not working there british since 1833 and orignally since 1690 you date from 1811 on claim so go away!
There are no records in the entire twentieth century of a unit wich have been bombed by naval and land fire for forty-four days and in the field of combat for more than sixty, without being relieved as happened with the BIM 5.

I was only a half trained territorial but I would be like special forces compared to your soldiers.
n wel be fuckin back
Of all the battles during that war, Tumbledown was the one with the most mercenaries and less British.
We've only been doing it since 1642. We'll improve when we get a wee bit more practice.
I like that
Respect to the Argentine Marine Conscripts that gave the Scots Guards a hellish time
The 5th MBI were not by a long way all conscripts, & their commander had them train at night for a month in anticipation of a night attack.
Hacen bien en llorar...por que la historia aun no termina...y quien sabe si volvamos algún día...
Please, the Argentine fleet would break down halfway to the Falklands.
its britain not england
If it is still argentinian, why does the Union Jack still fly high over it ? Rule Brittania, Alba Gu Brath !!!!
My dad Robert Wright was on Tumbledown
we do care and its not england its the United kingdom Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland including the Overseas Territories and crown dependencies we defend all of them and the falklands would not matter as a door to antartica as we have the south geogia south orkney islands south shetlad islands there so you are making up excuses to justify your war and its not working there british since 1833 and orignally since 1690 you date from 1811 on claim so go away!
Malvinas argentinas y no soy argentino
There are no records in the entire twentieth century of a unit wich have been bombed by naval and land fire for forty-four days and in the field of combat for more than sixty, without being relieved as happened with the BIM 5.
1642
Firstly, learn English.
Secondly, show some respect.
