椅子一脚が出来上がるのに、たくさんの職人が関わっています。その中でも、最後の背もたれ部分は親方にしかできない高い技術が必要な作業です。

I like the butterfly splines for longevity of the joints in the seat. I have seen old chairs split there.

手仕事、意外と機械作業がほとんどなんですね。最後の手すりとか木肌の部分だけはカンナを掛けたりペーパーしたりと。昔の職人ってミノとカンナで全て作っていたと考えると恐ろしいなぁ。

Beautiful but I don’t understand the painstaking use of knives to whittle the arms.

Japanese planing knives have been used for a long time, and are useful in tight spots.
