Great review. I want to point out that abuse should never win anyone's love. I applaud Mariko. Banturo thinks he can be an abusive a**hope for how long? And he thinks serving tea will fix it? It's not about the Anjin because we saw him being mean to her when there was no connection between her and Anjin, which Banturo has no actual proof of anyway. Abusers will cry and plead to win their victim back then repeat cycle.
Serve tea in tea cerimony is an art and it was supposed to be a demonstration of appreciation to Mariko and allow her to speak freely and heartfully (as she has sure did). Almost like the tea house is a psicologist office.
In the book this ritual aspect is clearer.

I just know that abusers can work like that going from mean to nice and back again. Both actors were great in that scene.
