    so I just purchased a Rally Mini, and wanted the BYOD use case that you mentioned. I noticed in your Rally Mini video, that you can hook up a laptop directly to the rallybar for BYOD. Does this make the Swytch unnecessary if cable distance is not an issue? Just curious what other features would be offered by purchasing the Swytch kit. Thanks, and keep up these great videos!

    • @ExpertOfThings

      Thanks for watching! The Swytch provides that one-cable solution, versus two cables needed for regular BYOD.

    Awesome product and video, thanks Josh! Just one question, is there a way that I get prompted when connecting the Swytch cable to my laptop asking if I want to 1) "hijack" all the peripherals or 2) just share content, because for example when users want to share content they just connect whatever cable is available at the table, they don't mind if you are not supposed to connect the "purple cable" while in a Teams meeting using the MTR in-room PC :)

    • @ExpertOfThings
      @ExpertOfThings  3 года назад

      Thank you!
      No, you are not prompted with what to do, the devices are simply taken over for your meeting. Let's say I am jumping into a Google Meet meeting, and I plug in the Swytch. I can then use the room's camera and mic/speakers instead of my laptop's built-in devices. However, I would still need to choose to share my screen within the meeting controls in order for my screen to be shared. In contrast, with an MTR, you can configure it to automatically share your desktop if you connect your laptop to the HDMI cable that is optionally configured at the center of table console (Tap, in the example in the video).

    Just curious as to why you never mentioned the TAP in this setup.
    In both setup environments the TAP is mentioned in the diagram and we can see the tap behind you at the end of the video but you never mentioned it. Are you connecting the TAP usb - usb to the PC or are you using a cat5e cable and looping it from the POE injector and using the cat5e -usb adapter included in the TAP box.
    This isn't very clear, both the Swytch and the Tap do not provide a usb-usb cable to go directly from the Tap to the PC

    Great Video Thanks, I have one problem
    I have an issue between the camera, Tap & Swytch. We use Teams as our primary as well as we host Zoom meetings, The problem arises when we disconnect the Switch after hosting a Zoom meeting, when you unplug the Swytch, Camera Mic and speakers should point back to Teams. Speakers & Mic does switch back however the "Logi Rally Camera" does not, When you look in Teams Peripheral settings. The Camera Is blank. Any reason the Camera Device is not switching back to Teams?

    • @ExpertOfThings
      @ExpertOfThings  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! The only thing I can think of in this case is to update the firmware and re-test. So, whatever compute/PC is attached to the Swytch in the room, make sure it has Logi Sync installed, and you should see the Swytch available in the Sync app. If there is a firmware update there, definitely deploy it.

    At the 7:05 mark, you mention the TV is not connected to the Display Hub, but rather from the Swytch Hub, at the 14:22 mark you mention the HDMI (when using rally plus) goes to the Display Hub not the TV. Just curious which is the correct routing, appears to be from the documentation, with Rally plus, it's HDMI from Swytch hub to TV, is that right?

  • @ScottSchramm

    What is the advantage of this solution over something like the Poly Studio X series which have "device mode" built in and all you have to do is connect a USB cable between the laptop and codec? (no middle-man device like the Swytch). Also the fact that the Swytch requires drivers (DisplayLink) is a no go for my organization. Perhaps none of this will be needed once the Logitech RoomMate comes out? I don't see a USB uplink on the RoomMate, so I guess its not clear if that would even work.

    Thanks for the informative video. We have two of the Swytch systems that include the Rally pieces (Table and Display Hubs). For some reason, when connected as the manual specifies, we do not see the Rally Camera. When we disconnect the USB A-B between the Display Hub and the Swytch Hub and connect the Swytch to the Table hub, instead, the camera comes right up and is stable. Any idea why we're having the same problem with two systems?

    • @ExpertOfThings

      Unfortunately, I am unsure. I can say, though, that the cabling is VERY specific, and I have seen many instances where the correct cabling was believed to be in place, but it was actually off. You may need to take this to Logi Support.

    How is this different then using BYOD mode on a Rally Bar Mini (for example)? Thanks for the content!

    • @ExpertOfThings
      @ExpertOfThings  2 года назад +1

      One difference, for example, is the fact that BYOD mode requires the user to walk in and plug in both the USB cable, AND the HDMI cable, it they want to use the front of room displays. Swytch is a single connection for all: USB. It should be noted that Swytch only supports a single display, though.

    • @ExpertOfThings
      @ExpertOfThings  2 года назад +1

      Swytch will only use one of the displays when it is setup in a dual display room. As for the meeting software, it does not matter what you use, because the Swytch is simply providing a hardware solution to connect the devices to your laptop - not to the meeting room software.

    • @ExpertOfThings
      @ExpertOfThings  2 года назад

      It doesn't sound like you have a custom setup, not an "official" room solution, as defined by a provider. I believe Logitech supports Switch in an otherwise BYOD setup, but I would defer to the wiring diagrams on their Support site for setup guidance on that scenario.

    This makes my brain hurt! Although clearly articulated, it seems like an awful lot of cables / power plugs / boxes / cost to just plug have the ability to connect a laptop to run a meeting. I use a Rally Bar. Can’t I just run a USB + HDMI cable pair from the back of the Rally Bar and up through the table to plug into a laptop? Yes, there’s 2 cables to connect to the laptop, but way less other stuff to buy and connect under the table.

    My God. Just when I thought the Logitech Rally was too complex and WAY too many cables they push the boat out with more. The table will collapse with the amount of logitech junk under the table. I have 6 of these are they are the most un reliable rubbish Ive ever seen. All of them. To see on forums companies with hundreds of these I feel so sorry for them. Your IT dept will end up with a bad name if you dont throw that logitech rubbish in the bin. (Using Rally plus with windows 10 and Teams.) Dont waste your money. And dont mention support.
