  • The Hyundai Creta has been the king of its hill for a while now. And while many competitors have tried and failed to take it down, the Honda Elevate is a fresh take on a sub-₹20 lakh family SUV. Instead of focusing on headline features, it gets the basics right. But can it beat the Creta? Karan and Glen take them both out in petrol-CVT guise to find out!

Honda Elevate ZX CVT (Top model) costs almost 20L OTR Pune
Hyundai Creta SX Tech IVT costs similar 20L OTR Pune. It doesn’t have ventilated seats, doesn’t have electric seats and misses on the so called tech. Most of the features are similar for both the cars.
Where the Honda shines though is the suspension and the driving dynamics. Loved it, although ended up buying a VW Virtus instead. 😂

As a owner of elevate since 6 months there are few things which makes daily driving not easy - 1. Lack of under tigh support in the front seats and lack of foot area this cause pain in the tigh and ankle after long drive 2. please dont take the dual tone as during hot summer - the area around the sun roof area gets super hot in summer even with the sun roof cover you will feel the heat on top of your head while driving and after few hrs both the front passengers will feel the heat and you will be exhuasted after driving. I am not able to find the solution to this and i am disappointed with the lack of engineering skills being executed in this car
i was able to improve the under tigh support and lower back support. I took the car to a seat fabricator, and he added extra firm foam in the under tigh area and lumbar support area now the seat feels like a recliner. I am very happy with this solution.

Full disclosure: I own an elevate and my brother in law owns a creta. Having driven both, I think elevate is a better car becoz its structurally sounder ( hence safer), maintenance cost is lower and engine is better. The only practical misses in elevate vis a vis creta are electronic parking break and 360 degree camera. All else is fluff

2 major shortcomings in the Elevate:
    1. 40 litre fuel tank while others in this segment get 45-50 litres.

    Elevate A-N-Y-D-A-Y.
    Reasons:
    1. Hondas are way WAY more reliable than fragile hyundais. You'll see several 10-15 (or even more) years old Hondas on the roads even today, but you'll rarely find a similar hyundai (apart from maybe old santro taxis in mumbai).
    2. To add to the previous point, while hondas in general are reliable regardless of the engine, the 1.5 iVTEC is ESPECIALLY reliable. That engine will EASILY last lacs and lacs of kms with zero faults. I have three Honda City petrols in the family all of which have crossed 3 lac kms. Supremely reliable engine. Meanwhile I personally know four cases of Seltos 1.4 and 1.5 GDI owners facing frequeny reliability issues and are losing trust in their cars as a result (one of them purchased a second cheaper car for the city because of DCT failures in his seltos). These turbo GDI korean cars will be fun to drive until about 100k kms which is when they start to disintegrate like someone pushed a self-destruct button.
    3. No shocks in servicing and general maintenance. Hyundais, especially their direct injection turbo equipped models can get teally expensive to maintain as the kms rack up, while servicing a Honda is pretty fuss-free. The parts and maintenance costs are within acceptable limits and as a result, there is no shock delivered to the customer.
    5. Way better resale value. Hondas, while not as strong as Toyotas, have historically maintained pretty good resale value for their cars in India. You can easily compare similar model year (and mileage) City and Verna and see the difference yourself. Hyundais just dont command the same resale value as Hondas.

No doubt 1.5 NA of Honda is the best but No turbo petrol, diesel engines,Features, Panoramic sunroof and most important the Crash test Rating etc these things made the Elevate flop on arrival
Dealers are trying their hard to sell existing stock and company haven't even shipped the R variant with 6 Airbags standard with manual..and dealer is saying 3 months waiting for that variant..Honda digged their own grave by doing these mistakes
Also despite seeing Slavia/Virtus and Verna crash test rating they haven't even dare to send their City 5th Gen for crash test..this clearly shows their confidence on their products..just showing internal crash test videos on launch events doesn't make their cars 5 star rated..

I think the area in which Honda is lacking is Marketing..Same applicable to CITY 5th Gen as well
Because Interiors of Elevate are better than Grand Vitara, hyryder but they have hybrid tech
Just doing good marketing can increase the sales of the Elevate
Honda being Honda can't add features before facelift like VW/Skoda did in their 2.0 cars
Also not offering multiple engines option..if mot turbos then they should have offered hybrid by localising in India like what maruti did..
But for that company should take indian market seriously not by taking customers for granted..
If I become CEO of Honda india then first thing I will do is launching Sub4m SUV with best features and 1.0 VTEC TURBO Engine then City new generation with increased ground clearance to 180mm and crazy marketing of it and Will add features to the Elevate making it par to the Korean twins and also hybrid engine..Amaze New Gen with 1.2 NA and 1.0 turbo and multiple features then launch Civic/CRV by CBU/CKD route limited units making the portfolio look much better for the customer that he/she won't leave the showroom without booking any car..
Also the last thing,Will get all cars tested from GNCAP/BNCAP and if scored 5 star then additional marketing for it

One thing I will like to add is that the Elevate is not for someone who is above 6 feet. I don’t know why Honda does this but they have restricted the seat travel for the front seats which makes it uncomfortable for taller passengers and the under thigh support is poor in both front and rear seats. Also the NVH is extremely poor. Let me know if any other tall passenger has had a different experience with the elevate.

    1. Lack of Ventilated seats

Creta indeed has latest tech and many more features than Elevated but I think Elevate is more practical in terms that it has more ground clearance than Creta especially when 5 people sit in both cars , Crta feels very low from rear, If u r passing through a road filled with monsoon waters how wil 360 degree camera help but a little better water wading capacity can, further in rear offroading the high ground clearance means you won't have to feel anxious, besides Elevate is hardly seen on roads tat adds to The charm factor while creta is seen everywhere

Seat electronically adjustable option only will be used very rarely compared to other things in car. Aslo cause it's slow moving .. and if some electronics brakes the. Headache
And nobody is too old to bend down and pull a lever or pull a lever. To adjust it manually.

Firstly, you know why these pseudo experts/reviewers/journalists thrive is due to fact that they’re so good in hiding the facts or in other words so good in selling lies. On what standard are you professing Creta is an SUV? Just cuz you take a below average platform of an hatch and raise the height of the chassis with suspension gimmicks and latch on bigger body panels it doesn’t make it an SUV. The irony is that just cuz these manipulations are done you charge a premium beyond rationale and the common folks are scapegoated to this drama!
Ten seconds into the video as soon as the guy called Creta and SUV I’m typing out this comment.

    -powered driver seat
    -rear disc brakes
-360 camera & front parking sensors
    -dashcam
    -all window one-touch up-down
These things are offered by the competition & will be very useful for the largest vehicle (Elevate) in this segment. In order to keep prices competitive, Honda can add these features and make sunroof optional. Those who want sunroof can pay extra meanwhile for others, more relevant features will be well within their budget.

Because it's Honda. They don't add a feature just because it's popular. They only add it if it's worth and fit into their design.
