I just wanted to say that I don't watch your channel for the guide (since I already know what recovery compasses do), but I watch your channel because it is entertaining and you have a chill voice!
Item Idea: Sculk Chest The sculk chest is crafted in a 3x3 crafting area of a normal chest surrounded by sculk blocks. They don't stack and you can only carry one at any time in your inventory (maybe a special slot?). When in the player's inventory, if the player dies, the double chest is automatically placed where the player died and contains all of the items in the player's inventory armor, and off-hand item. The chest is NOT flammable so it can sit in lava or be surrounded by fire and still be safe. Since it's a chest, it will not despawn like items, however, in order to limit the item, no new items can be added to it and it will disappear (added particle effects) once all items are removed. If an item is accidentally removed, it can't be returned. The chest can only be opened by the player who held it
While not as useful for competitive/non-friendly multiplayer, you can kind of do the same thing with ender chests. You place one ender chest somewhere, then while exploring you put items you want safe in the ender chest which you then mine back into your inventory. If you die, the items you stored will still be safe in the "collective space" of your ender chest, and you only lost the ender chest you were carrying. It's not as potent as what you're suggesting, but I think that is what the compass is sort of meant for. It doesn't eliminate all risks of item loss for death (if you really fear the penalties of death, you'll probably just prefer the Totem of the Undying) but if you have particularly precious items and you're somewhere pretty sketchy, like over a huge lava pit, you can mitigate what you lose with an ender chest.
This or something like the gravestone mods should've been added to Minecraft a LONG time ago, 5 minutes is often not even close to enough time to get your drops back 😡
A thing to remember while raiding an ancient city is that shriekers have a 10 seconds cooldown once triggered, which is globally shared by every shriekers. During that time, you can make any noise you want without triggering further shriekers.
I’m a hardcore player. This item is cool but I can’t play with it at all. They should make a hardcore exclusive item since we can’t use this nor the respawn anchor.
I feel like a good alternative feature to this for hardcore would if it lead you to your respawn bed compared to a compass that leads you to world spawn.
I'd honestly just prefer they give more function to this compass for hardcore players than bother with any of this "exclusive item" stuff. It might actually be kind of nice if the Recovery Compass, given that it's made with materials that are hard and risky to get to, pointed you to hidden things much like a treasure map does. Alternatively, it might just have a different function in Hardcore Mode - in Hardcore Mode, it might instead point you to things like sunken ships or lost temples - things with chests in them that don't get maps that point you to them like Ocean Monuments or buried treasure.
you are literally my fav minecraft channel, all your videos(and you have so many!!) are extremely informational and helpful. And enjoyable, not to mention.
I've seen a lot of people saying that the recovery compass becomes available too late in the game to be useful, and I think it really shows how many people don't really understand how raiding ancient cities works. You have almost the same success levels when you raid it at iron level as you do raiding it at netherite level. You don't really even need special items, though they can certainly help. But if you just leave after 3 shrieks, you're totally safe. And shrieks should only really be happening if there's two sculk shriekers next to each other, though even these shrieks can be avoided with wool. And if you mess up and the warden DOES get summoned, you can just sprint jump while sneaking, and it's no threat at all!
For sure, I've found I actually prefer to raid the ancient city with just a few stacks of wool blocks, a bit of food, super basic tools (could even be stone) and a bed
2:00 Like, it's honestly not that dangerous, if the player just uses a bit of caution. I'd argue that it's even LESS dangerous than an ordinary cave! I'm certainly raiding the ancient city before going to the Nether. The Nether is WAY more dangerous. As long as you're just focusing on taking out sculk shriekers, and leaving before a 4th shriek happens, exploring the Deep Dark basically means you're playing on _peaceful_ mode. So yeah, the Deep Dark is probably the least dangerous cave biome in the game. The places where it borders other biomes can be somewhat dangerous, though, seeing as hostile mobs can attack you while you're in the deep dark.
@@Eyecraftmc It's somewhat weird, but a method I tried to use was bringing snow blocks and carved pumpkins with me. It's slightly easier to gather than wool (assuming you find pumpkins, anyways. If you can't find pumpkins but can find sheep, wool is better for sure). So then, when the warden spawns, I could summon a snow golem, which attacks the warden, like how they attack any hostile mob. I've only tested it for a few minutes in a test world, and it worked pretty well. I tried using this strategy in a real survival playthrough, but so far, I've not yet found an ancient city (I've been checking under mountains, seeing as they're more common there). I found a deep dark biome, and brought the snow and pumpkins with me, but I only set off 2 shriekers, so no warden spawned. This strategy can be used with any mob (except bats, because wardens now ignore bat flapping vibrations), seeing as all mobs create vibrations. It just works best with snow golems, seeing as they're really cheap, don't attack you, automatically attack the warden (though actually that could be a detriment, seeing as that makes the warden kill them faster, albeit with more reliability), and are easy to bring with you. Like, you could do this method by having a horde of zombies chasing behind you, or carrying a pig on a lead, but those methods are MUCH more annoying than mobs you can carry with you. This means that iron golems and even _the wither_ can also be a good distraction for the warden, but snow golems are super cheap.
The trailers and stuff made Ancient Cities and the warden seem super terrifying and overpowered. Having been to ancient city and experience it myself, they are actually super easy to get through. People saying they are end game structures either: 1. haven't been to one yet 2. Don't know the proper way to raid 3. Are bad at the game
a thousand times better way of doing the buried treasure thing is to just use a lodestone compass, because that doesn't reset when you die. in general, anything other than finding your last death location can be done better by the lodestone compass. The only downside is that other people can see it as well, but this can be prevented by just storing the compass in your echest. edit: you mentioned it in the end, but still just having the lodestone compass ready in the ender chest is way better than the recovery compass, because the usage of the recovery compasse implies you're never going to die in that world again.
The recovery compass is very useful. Once my world was lagging while I was flying in the air. It wouldn’t let me slow down. I was making sharp turns to slow down but I was still speeding through the air. (Like going on the highway at 75mph and your brakes fail you.) Then all of a sudden I died. I had no idea where I died. (My cousins were also playing and they couldn’t open chests/doors or interact with villagers during the lag) I borrowed my cousin’s elytra, grabbed the compass from a picture frame at base and found all my stuff. 5 stars. Highly recommended lol
Can you please make another guide for villagers. Showing how their proffesions work, what is the best way to set them up for trading and how to make something like a discount machine for their trades????
I think a lodestone compass would be a much more viable option for the secret chest function because you won't have to reset it every time you die and you can have multiple at once, but I guess while other people can pick up the compass and find your stuff you can just be careful Edit: never mind you literally said everything in this comment already
Love your play on words, "a very encompassing video", lol, which it was. Always complete on the information. Question, when in an ancient city, if you have triggered the skulks to "call" the warden twice, do the game mechanics support leaving (32 blocks+ away) at that point & returning later to the "call count" being reset to zero? Or does it keep the call count current, meaning you're still going to trigger the 3rd call?
I’ve found the a pretty effective method for raiding ancient cities is placing a bed and a chest with your stuff and a couple of hoes and and night vision potions, and just sprinting around removing shriekers in several suicide missions. Can clear the place in just a couple minutes that way
Mojang should make it so that, even if keep inventory rule isn't turned on, the recovery compass that was once obtained by the player will still be with him. In that way, no matter how many times the player dies, the recovery compass will be more helpful.
... or you could - hear me out - write down the coordinates of your secret treasure or base entrance, especially since if you die again, the compass will be useless. 😁
for me using coordinates to locate stuff takes away the exploring fantasy of minecraft, i prefer using maps and my memory, so hacing this compass helps a lot, its just a matter of preference
I've learned not to carry any good items with me when I explore. And to make a small base/camp area (with at least one chest) every so often (usually at about half of a days travel and/or the end of the day cycle).
@@Eyecraftmc but now more seriously. It's a shame that this item has literally 0 utility on a hardcore world... They could have even make a placeholder use to have more time to think for something better. For example the compass would point to the closest ancient city.
12:53 It's less fun, but a more useful method is just writing down what the coordinates are. Especially considering that if you die a second time, your treasure will be lost forever.
I wish i had this that time when i was on a server and lost a full enchanted netherite set of tools and armor and was unable to find it all because of lag with the elytra
Recovery compass? I seriously can't keep up anymore. I keep trying to think of a project and focus on it. Now there's recovery compasses? (I don't follow the release info much anymore but still love and play the game).
In my case the recovery compass is completely useless, since not only I'm used to coordinates, but I also use datapack that adds graves, and in addition to that, it also shows the coordinates of your graves. I mean, I could just disable grave coordinates in the config menu, but I don't want to. Though I did craft a recovery compass, but it's just sitting in an item frame and gathering dust.
The way the information is organized, and presented makes it so easy, even a stooge like me can understand. Great content. You earned the sub.
