A Zouave Uniform "Just Short of Spectacular"

- This soldier wears the uniform of the D'Epineuil Zouaves, an early war regiment that mustered into federal service as the 53rd New York Infantry. Named after its commander, Col. Lionel Jobert D'Epineuil, the men wore uniforms modeled after those worn by French Imperial Zouaves from the colonel's home country.
